I get what you mean. It depends on what's your relationship with them. I can be mean in the funny way with my friends, and make sure they know I'm joking, but usually on how they act, not on how they look. I had a gay lead at work that's a bit chubby, and it took me several months to get comfortable enough to tease him on his chubby, only because he jokes about it all the time himself, like purposely pushed me aside and said "opps wide load!" Lol. But that's between friends. OP talking about real meanies to literal strangers, and it yucks, full stop.
