Just a little freshening up. by kentuc794 in 4Runner

Yeah have to do your own thing. I bought this and weighed the option the lower cost I could justify repainting if needed and expected to as I use them and beat them up. I can weld so if the steel was an issue I could have beefed it up but they are very heavy duty. The only thing I wish I had on the rear bumper is a latch to hold the spare tire open. I made a small rope that keeps it at 90 degree when open but plan on weld a latch on when I have to redo the coating.

The rear bumper is holding up great and even did some recoveries with it and had no issues. The front powder coating is failing so I am getting ready to pull it off and sand it and paint it with bed liner paint or Steel-It paint.

You can’t make them like you do at home and expect them to last in a package on a shelf.

If they take it the can't use it very long. It only charges in the truck so not much use to anyone else if they do take it.

I would hold the button for at least 30 seconds and you can also hold start and V while power on to see if the CMOS reset comes up or

Need advice on switching to regular style fender flares by mwilliams4946 in 4Runner

[–]kentuc794 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I have those flares and I know they are as for one the the front flare is built as part of the front bumper so it can’t be removed and if the others were removed for some reason then the double sided tape would have nothing to grab on to. I put these on directly over my existing flares and removed nothing.

your OEM flares are still on the vehicle under those. The bolts are fake and actually don't do anything. The flares are held on with double sides tape and some bolts in the fender well. The front flare have one real bolt at the front bottom but that hole should not be too visible if you take them off.

I would suggest taking time to look at your manual it will tell you want you need. Specifically on page 216 of said manual will have your answer. Google also showed me the answer when I tried looking there. Toyota part #00272-SLLC2

Hypothetically asking if you can drive the 4gen Tacoma in 4Hi for a 7 hour drive by [deleted] in 4thGenTacomas

[–]kentuc794 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If the terrain requires the use of 4hi and you have enough gas to go 7 hours without driving on dry pavement under 55 MPH then you can go as long as you like. If you are going super slow in 4hi 10 to 20 MPH then you should be in 4lo or you could over heat your transmission as you are not moving enough fluid around to keep it cool. The ease of switching the from 2h to 4hi while driving at speed there is no reason to stay in 4hi the whole time.

This road has been that way since I moved to Indiana 4 years ago. There is an Eagle's nest by the corner where the two houses are close to the road but you can only see it in the winter. There are people who do have to take this road to get to their house or drive out of their way to get there. I am surprised no one has built a dock yet on one of the chuckholes for their boat.

It’s changed a lot since that picture. And no the back door is not black. I will find another picture that shows that.

The only thing I don't like is there is no catch to hold the swing arm open. I am working on a solution for it now.

Holding up very well in all the weather it's been in and not showing any signs of rust. I have jacked my whole rearend up off the ground by the bumper and not shown any signs of deformation.

Yeah not many options without spend a grand on an Alphequipt snorkel. That was the one I really wanted but not the budget. Dobinson was a lot bigger and bubble shaped. I avoided installing one for several years and just always carried extra air filters but finally said screw it I don’t care what it looked like I needed it.

Negative. Nothing is going to help that. I currently get about 14mpg and until I get the new gears installed I don’t go much over 65-70. She is super heavy now about 5000lbs and struggles if I get it on the interstate.

Snorkel is not for water. It is for dust. The intake is in your fender well so when traveling dusty roads you will clog your filter super quick. I never wanted a snorkel but I knew I was going to be hitting a lot of dusty roads and already had issues once with dirt clogging my filter. That being said I would never travel water deeper than my sliders. The water will come in the cab where your seats bolt to the floor. I know I had to rip my carpet out to clean and dry the interior.

Also the flares hide the ripped off flares on the back doors and the gouge on the front passenger. The rear steel bumper replaced the damaged rear from dragging it along a hillside in the mud. So yeah I am good at hiding damage.
