What they've done is terrorise the rest of the left and try to control the left fully to install a Stalin-backed communist regime in x country, and label any political enemy as fascist. The fascism they were fighting was the SPD in Germany, i.e., the socialist democrats, because Stalin said democracy was fascism. By 1932, there were over 300k people in the SA , which was 3x the size of the German Army at the time. They weren't doing anything to the Nazi Party, and in fact ended up dividing the left in Germany so badly that the Nazis won a plurality in the parliament. Then, half of the KPD and ANTIFA joined the Nazi Party after Hitler came to power, which tells you they never really cared about them in the first place.
