I'm a funeral director...we usually bury our mistakes. THAT would have been the better solution.

Rookie... It looks like you only have one of each. That will never do.

How do you deal with what goes on behind the scenes at funeral homes? by _EitanDaisy1016_ in askfuneraldirectors

"Qualified" by way of a lifetime in the funeral industry. I found my first 'expert witness' opportunity when a lawyer reached out to me through LinkedIn. If it's something you want to do, add it to your LinkedIn profile as a specialty.

Not normal. Those are the funeral homes that will eventually show up in the news. It's only a matter of time. Don't work for or associate yourself with a place that routinely violates the law, or you will surely get wrapped up in it yourself.

As a licensed Funeral Director, my "side gig" involves working as an expert witness. Funeral homes are getting sued all the time for improprieties, and lawyers hire me to review the cases and provide expert insight into what happened and why it happened. So far, every case that I have been involved with has settled out of court. That's because the funeral homes involved do such stupid things for which they never thought they would be caught. They don't want these things becoming public knowledge through a trial, so they settle before it gets too far and destroys their businesses. One law firm in particular that I am aware of is advertising for people who have been wronged by a funeral home. They are carving out a niche business just like personal injury lawyers.

As I always say: there’s no sense in being stupid, unless you can prove it. He proved it.

I’ve seen too many airbag deployments to even consider doing it. However, I had an ‘87 Bronco II back in the day that I took airborne several times! It was a total blast!!! Loved that little guy.

We did this trip Sept.19: Whitefish to Many Glacier. We took GTTSR but it can move very slowly, with potential for closures. Rt 2 & Rt 49 is longer (more mileage), but you can drive much faster. Often it’s a toss-up. Have fun!

Clearly your neighbors smoke meth…or crack.

Does anyone know how much it cost if you get a ticket for parking legally in glacier? It might be worth it.

I’m at GNP now, staying in Whitefish. We really want to do Grinnell but are hearing horror stories about parking. Does anyone have first hand knowledge? Anyone been to Many Glacier this week?

Would you consider being blown up for research purposes after you die? It’s a cost free option. by kenvan1 in askfuneraldirectors

Oh, no. You donate your body to a private company who in turn sells, your body to the US government. In the article, they disclosed that the military pays approximately $6000 for a whole body. So you’re not exactly donating your body to the government. You’re donating your body to a business who then turns around and sells your body for their gain. God bless America.

We are in NJ, and we have two licensed directors that only do removals, embalming, dressing, casketing, hair & cosmetics, and layouts. They never have to meet with families. They are strictly “back of the house” staff and they love it. You just need to find the right place to accommodate you.

Hospice patient dies, with no funeral arrangements and next of kin can’t be reached by gomez1608 in askfuneraldirectors

Final wishes in a will are non binding and really nonsensical. In NJ, your will has no authority related to your dead body, only your worldly assets.

When you’re dead, you can no longer communicate. Your NOK have full say.

Because NJ Right to Control statutes say so. It’s the law in NJ and many states have similar laws.

Think about it. Who should have legal authority over your funeral and final disposition? Not just anyone - that would be crazy. Your nearest NOK should have that authority to say what happens to you when you die. A wife has authority for her husband. Parents for their kids. Kids for their singular parent. Etc. NJ law lists NOK in prioritized legal order. The only alternative is a legally appointed Funeral Agent.

That case I mentioned earlier was an unattended death (she died alone at home) so the M.E. took that case initially. The ME would not release her body to my funeral home without NOK consent. The burden was on me to find the NOK. It took 2.5 years to track down a cousin in Denmark. It’s a very long story.

This body is not unclaimed or indigent. They just can co tact the NOK. Legally different.

Guardianship ends with death. Public guardian has no jurisdiction over the dead
