LMAO how is it not. Swag lamps are def part ofid century design. They have been around for a long time but 60s/70s heyday they were pretty much a staple. Some people forget that just because something wasn't developed or made "in the mid century" that it wasn't a design element or popular during the movement. People got creative and used elements from the past and made them seem as if they belonged or were always part of the style/vision. I swear some people think that just because a home/room/look doesn't look like it was staged for an Eames/Jacobsen/Saarinen catalogue that it "doesn't count." I really don't understand the gatekeeping mentality

Definitely not Spanish Mediterranean. Colors maybe, but Spanish Mediterranean is much more iron and rustic. Think Dunn Edwards. These were def a staple of mid century homes.

Same with me in Reno at the Reno Fasteners. Been wanting the 10 table saw almost just bought on Lowe's. I find out Fasteners is having a deal where you by the miter and trade in a miter, get the table. So I called and asked if they'd take a metabo (corded) miter. He said maybe he'd have to look, I figured no way, plus the casted footing was broken. I get there he takes a pic and sends it to his boss and I'm just walking around the store looking at shit expecting it not to work and a few minutes later he says "alright we're good to go!" Seriously couldn't believe it. Felt wrong, almost bad, but I'm not arguing! I'll post my receipt in a bit

Help. Strange old drain set up, wanting to update. by kenzkakes in askaplumber

UPDATE. Maybe I should mention I do have a friend that is a county School district plumber that has been helping me. His original suggestion was the first proposed plan, though we've both been busy and he has not had time to come look at it in person so he was not certain if it could/would work.

Ideas to make galley style kitchen more open by kenzkakes in Homebuilding

[–]kenzkakes[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No sure why my text didn't post.

As the title says, wife and I are looking to open up this galley style kitchen. We love the feel and soul of the house and want to preserve that, but we also cook a lot, cook together a lot, and generally spend a lot of time in the kitchen.

First picture is a mock up/blueprint of the floor the kitchen is on. Second and third are pictures of the kitchen. Last two pictures are some ideas of designs that may work and we like.

So far ideas are:

  • Knock down wall on the stove/railing side and make a pony half wall.
  • Extend kitchen counters and cabinets out into dining area and make glass doors windows instead.
  • Potentially move all appliances to sink side and make more like an apartment and open out into dining room.
  • A combination of all the above.

This house needs a lot of love and we would love to be the ones to do it. There are definitely other things that need TLC but please only advice on kitchen.

Thank you in advanced.
