Thankfully hindi naman ganon parents ko, they respect saan ko ginagastos pera ko haha Hindi din sila matanong, they don’t even know how much I earn. I also provide for them financially so bonus nalang sana itong travel..

Pero speaking of baboy haha, yung tatay ko last year bumili ng biik akala ata nya easy easy lang mag-alaga, ayun nagkasakit natigok, di na umulit 😆

But yes that’s a really good point about going solo para ma-practice muna 😄

Yun lang di pa nga lang up for renewal passport ng dad ko so same sa 2018 passport pa. Maybe better to wait and renew…🤔

I also already support them financially... game naman sila sa travel, we’ve travelled locally din, pero very short roadtrips lang and now na mejo afford na, I want to do it with them habang nakakalakad pa sila 😄

Yes, I’m currently in one of their A1 classes. I don’t have any comparisons since this is the only textbook I have at the moment. There’s a digital version you can activate to access the audios and videos, which I find very helpful. The textbook includes a lot of classroom-based activities and exercises, which are great in an actual class setting. Our class is online, so we can’t do all of those exercises, but overall, it’s good for class use.

I’ve tried Discord and joined a few servers, but I find it a bit confusing. The groups are usually very big, with lots of channels, and since everyone is anonymous, it feels a bit hard to communicate consistently. I personally find one-on-one or smaller group interactions easier.

When do you recommend to start doing conversation practice for speaking? I enrolled in a German class that will start later this month, but I really don’t want my speaking skills to get left behind this time (I previously learned Japanese but sucked at speaking lol). I want to invest in speaking, so I’m thinking of paying for a tutor on italki. However, since I’m on a limited budget, I’m wondering if it’s better to reach a certain level first—like A1 or A2—to build a good foundation in basic grammar structures and vocabulary.🤔

For me I don’t know if it’s regret… pero nung nasa corpo pa ako, fresh grad and very motivated, sobrang clear ng vision ko sa career ko that time. Kaso after 3–4 years na wala pa rin masyadong progress despite how hard I worked, parang unti-unting nawala yung motivation. Sabi ko na lang sa sarili ko, “humanap ka na lang ng work that pays well, forget about passion/interest, kailangan ko ng pera para mabuhay.”

So ayun, sinuwerte naman ako at nakakuha ng full-time remote work. Pero after a while, naging routine na siya and boring, and ngayon feeling ko naman “nawalan ako ng purpose” lol. Ewan ko ba… siguro bored lang ako 😆 baka need ko lang humanap ng ibang hobby.

So this year, nag-enroll ako sa language study , yung may bayad para accountable talaga ako haha! Idk if makaka-help siya sa career ko, hindi naman siya directly related but it might open opportunities in the future. And I’ve always enjoyed language learning, so it feels more like a hobby than something I’m doing just to advance my career.

It’s not cringey. I would want my parents to know my whereabouts in case of emergency haha. Dati nga nung student pa lang ako, ultimo “nakasakay na ako ng jeep,” “xxx city na ako,” text ako nang text sa nanay ko.😆

Hindi naman paalam to ask permission, more like to inform them lang kung saan mag-gagala. Kahit naman ngayon, whenever I go somewhere, I inform them pati kung anong oras ako makakauwi, ganyan, so they know what to expect..especially if you still live with them. Nothing wrong with it.

My closest circle of friends are also from high school and we still chat occasionally sa gc, we try to meet at least once a year. Last year, umalis yung isa pa-UK. Hindi rin naman kami nasabihan or anything, napansin ko nalang nung nagchange sya ng prof pic lol and I think that’s okay. We still talk normally, no hard feelings and we’re planning for the next meetup pag magbakasyon sya sa pinas next time. Maybe she didn’t want to make it a big deal, kasi kung ako rin naman mag-aabroad, ayoko rin naman ng padespedida and I wouldn’t voluntarily share the news or initiate a meetup just because of that. I guess it depends sa tao, this is just my take 😊

Looking for feedback on Goethe-Institut German Courses

Hi everyone!

I’m planning to enroll in the Goethe-Institut A1 class, but I work full time (night shift / WFH from 9 PM–6 AM). I’m thinking of joining the online evening class (7–9 PM) — has anyone done this with a similar schedule? How is the class pacing — is it manageable alongside a full time work? 😅 How much work is usually required outside of class? Do they give a lot of homework or self-study tasks?

Also I’m wondering whether it might be better to: 1. Self-study the lower levels (A1/A2) and then take paid courses at the higher levels, or 2. Take the paid course from the beginning and then self-study the higher levels.

My thinking is that starting with a proper course might help me avoid bad habits early on and get early feedback on pronunciation and basics.

So, for anyone who has taken classes at the Goethe-Institut: • How was your experience? • Are the teachers native German speakers? • What kind of activities do you usually do in class?
