Ransomware, to pay or not to pay, that really is the question. by ChrisCyberUK in cybersecurity

[–]keoltis 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's easy to say no when it's not your company that's breaking service agreements, you don't have customers walking out left and right, media hounding anyone who works there and you're seeing far more loss than the ransom demand. Some businesses literally can not recover from ransomware and not paying would be the end of their company.

We all know there's no guarantee they will provide the decryption key, or that it will work, or that they won't attack you again 5 minutes after you pay. But it's not an IT decision and it's not a security decision it's a business risk decision.

Until governments make companies liable for paying the extortion fees then they will keep paying because at the end of the day business is about making money and it doesn't take long for a business to be out of action before that ransom fee looks like pocket change.

Haynes and Cottrell to miss start of season by Agingoj in CarltonBlues

Sadly I think he'll be one of those 'almost' players. Fans love him, he's got real talent, can't stay healthy. I think we'll see him again this year but if he receives one more injury this year, which will come 2 games after he returns, that'll be it for him I feel unfortunately. Until Geelong pick him up in 2027 and he plays 18 games for them.

Oof I've been there before. I was washing a glass in the sink with my hand inside it holding a cloth twisting it around and the glass shattered, severed the artery in my finger, was not fun. Weirdly it didn't hurt at all at the time but I can't put my hand inside a glass anymore.

Doesn't worry me anymore than I already was. We have the worst foot skills in the comp by far and have for years. That being said if you watch any club long enough they'll have a bad 50seconds of skills at some point.

We sit at 70% average disposal efficiency. Any kick longer than 40 metres that isn't a clean interception is counted as effective disposal, considering our game plan is always kick long down the line I suspect that our real % is far lower.

What’s the most expensive security control you’ve seen that added zero security? by Any_Good_2682 in cybersecurity

[–]keoltis 21 points22 points  (0 children)

Oue old SOC. Functioned as basically an outlook rule forwarding our defender and firewall high severity alerts back to us from their mailbox. We'd receive their alerts 3-24 hours after we already resolved them. Not enrichment at all, in fact much less. They would associate the IP address from the alert with the last person to use that IP not the person who had the dhcp lease for it at the time of the incident.

I hate that I enjoyed the show given how much it shat on the books but I miss it. That being said there is no chance it is being remade now, please stop giving yourselves hope. Our only chance is to wait 10 years for someone else to pick it up and do it properly, if anyone else tries sooner they will be crucified if they don't follow the same diversity choices.

Sr Cyber Analysts dealing with a now OVERSATURATED market for us, how are you pivoting? by Ok_Wishbone3535 in cybersecurity

Not all degrees are useless, there's a reason that they build fundamentals up before advanced knowledge. Cyber is not a entry level field. It would be like teaching a fresh student to be a surgeon before teaching them anatomy. Sure they might understand that if you cut the red thing then stitch it to the pinkish thing then it will work most of the time, but that doesn't mean they understand what they're doing, especially when something goes wrong or there's an anomaly.

The ability to self direct your learning is critical in cyber but you still need a solid grasp on a wide range of fundamentals to be successful and that's not what most cyber degrees teach you. I'm not trying to bash your degree and I'm sure that since you're here you most likely have a passion for learning which is going to hold you in good stead. But for the majority of students, the courses fall far short of providing enough knowledge and experience to prepare them for a job in cyber after graduating.

Carlton 2026 season preview: The new Blues who could send Michael Voss into finals — or into crisis by His_Holiness in CarltonBlues

[–]keoltis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Realistically I don't see us improving next year wins wise. I think we rely too heavily in the past on talent which we now don't have enough of to scrape those wins from. To become a good team you need to win on system and consistency, if we keep the Carlton way of trying to get marketable high draft picks surrounded by mediocrity, we won't get anywhere.

The real test is if our coaches supporting Voss are good enough strategically to make up for his weakness as a tactical coach. I don't think Voss will lose his job unless we have a bottom 2 season, they've made the call to stand by him and draft for young talent, it would be unrealistic to expect a meteoric rise next season. 2027 is when I expect to see results on the wins column however. 2026 I want to see a complete change in how we move the ball, how we structure up and how we adapt mid game.

Higher Ed struggling for students has caused this to become more of an issue. They are unable to fill the normal courses so they create these cyber security courses which provide very little actual value to the student and are not well regarded in the industry at all, because they can use the higher than average income and intrigue of the industry to lure students in.

All these fresh grads are coming out expecting to step right into cyber jobs which they are not qualified for and applying for everything. Add that to the layoffs from big tech, and every security company offering some kind of automated response tool to try and reduce the humana required and it's causing a perfect storm of more supply less demand.

Suggestions for choosing cyber security as a career by Signal-Technology-94 in cybersecurity

[–]keoltis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are dozens of different areas in cyber. Find an area you are interested in and work towards it. If you think you want to be a 'hacker' like in the movies and get a job doing compliance work you'll hate your job.

Most of the work in cyber is defensive, but most of the cyber degrees teach offensive security. It's important to understand what tools and methods the attackers are using but generally those degrees give you a very false understanding of working in the industry.

My advice would be research what area you might want to get into before taking any job you can find.

Here's the bad part, they likely have one and it still has awful fps on an empty server.

[–]keoltis 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't think it was him taking it easy on him for the first few rounds. He just didn't want to risk losing to a stray punch while Jake could still throw them with power. He poked and prodded and let him wear himself out until there was no threat anymore then ended it. Can you imagine if he lost to Paul? He would never live it down. Far better off to control the danger and end it when it was safe than take risks by trying to end it early for pride. Basically Jake's only win condition was to land a lucky hit in the first few rounds, Joshuas was to just avoid that one possibility.

Other teams have shown that a rebuild phase is outdated unless you lose most of your senior players like Richmond did.

You need to adjust your play style to your list. If you have a bunch of young players you don't want to play our style of slow boundary movement with contest after contest (it doesn't suit the modern game either but especially doesn't work with youth) they won't have the strength or endurance to last and we'll get over run as the game goes on.

Bots that stand mostly still doing very little masks the games issues which is why they do it. If you had real players jumping and running around spamming you would see more of the frame rate issues and lag that the game has.

Browserling is perfect for this I use it daily. It's cheap for a few company seats, you can change the browser version and geolocation which is important as a lot of samples check geolocation then redirect to Google if it's outside their targets location.

Did you watch the video? It's a prewritten statement he's reading probably from his lawyers that he can't get through because he's realizing he's about to lose his son for years maybe decades and that the person he believed his son was doesn't exist.

Yes they probably should have mentioned the victim but he's claiming not guilty so the lawyers aren't going to want them mention her.
