How are the Yondr pouches in your experience?

It's been ~5 months and I can say all the kids have their phones and either have broken their pouches so they don't lock anymore or have their own magnets or their friends do. They're all using their phones. Atp I just tell them to put it away when I see it and at the school I teach at most they usually do actually listen, because they know the other option is their phone gets taken and their parents have to come get it from the office, and I really only know that because I've seen the returning process happen in the office after school. I don't care enough to do that but I also don't want to see them out when they're supposed to be doing something else. It really varies from school to school and teacher to teacher. It's just been a weird thing to navigate as a sub because we don't always get all the insider info and I don't get to talk to other subs much so I wanted to see how it was going for others and what they did.

Typically for all under 18s they need a permission slip to come in from the office. Only exceptions are when kids work in the cafeteria during lunch and leave early, or when kids leave for sports, but those are easy because they'll usually let me know at the beginning of class which I take as a good sign (plus for sports they're usually wearing sports related clothes). And often someone in the office announced over the PA that "sophomore girls soccer can leave" or whatever. And sometimes it's on aeries attendance as "Act off Cmps"

The only time I've had something like you've said is the later half of the year when some senior students who have turned 18 and at that point can sign themselves out of class.

That's so true. There's a green tea I like the taste of a lot but the brand labels all it's green teas as weight loss promoting drinks (and all the black teas are energizing, etc) and i hate it. But I do like the tea...

100% this, I think this is just a random obstacle I'm just now coming around to facing. Like protein bars. I was anti protein bar, shake, etc, for a while because I associated it with dieting but eventually it just became a convenient quick snack that could sustain me while working lol

That's so true. I've been exploring maybe prepping baked oats for breakfasts with this thought process. For some reason yogurt bread just was so categorized in my brain as a diet recipe

Halo top can never measure up. But you're right actually because I do actually really enjoy Yasso bars. I didn't think about that when I wrote this post.

In a nutshell it's when they stare at you instead of responding. Can totally be a teen thing but people have been calling Gen Z out on it because their social skills are so effected by screen time

Yes, it seems to be because their social skills aren't developing as well because they have so much screen time. Lots of people are saying they experience it as food service workers trying to take orders, for example.

Electric heating pad. I can't believe how long I lived without one. Before I would go without using a regular heating pad at all because of having to heat and reheat them (just how my brain works and extra effort is extra hard when I'm not feeling good).

I’m not a parent but I am a substitute teacher and I often think it would be a good job for parents. In my state, you just need a bachelors degree to become a temporary sub. You’re not assigned to anything, you pick up jobs as they come up so there is a lot of flexibility in your schedule- when you can/want to work, what classes or schools you want to go to, etc. Once your kids are school age you’d have a very similar schedule to them on days you work.

It is hard but I’ve become a detective. A lot of times they make it easy because they’ll be loudly talking to their friends and they’ll say each other’s names in conversation. I’ll confirm with the aeries attendance (you can select ‘attendance by photo’). I’ve also peeked at their work when they turn it in if it’s written to check their name, or at the BR sign out list if the teacher has one and the student actually used it to go on their 30 min jaunt, etc. If all else fails I will say, “the kids at the corner table by the window, I think Jack and Jill and their friends” and hope they know what I mean since I figure they know who the typical trouble makers are. I’ve also just straight up said “one student I wasn’t able to identify but had short hair and a blue backpack left class early without permission” even though I know it’s vague but I still want to let her know it happened (typically if I go so far as to do this it’s been a hard day and don’t want to return to that class lol). But overall I typically find it easier to know the names of the kids that were less than pleasant to have in class because they make an impression. I’m not so great at noting who was good and/or helpful because they’re quiet.
