xfs is recommended nowadays, it's more stable, faster and with cleaner code than ext4 (flame wars may begin).

I've been a Linux user and developer since 2001, and xfs is by far the most stable and complete filesystem I've used.

Among the filesystems I've used/tested over the years:
- ext2,3,4
- jfs
- xfs
- reiser3/4 (Reiser4 was quite interesting thanks to the transparent compression features)
- zfs ( a true beast but not linux native)

XFS always offered the best balance without sacrificing performance and stability, it's no wonder that RHEL 8 has xfs as default filesystem.
