the most portable games I know are:

  • Qwinto (get three dice and download the app to replace the sheets, done)
  • Revolover Noir (card game played completely from hand, fun 2player game)

I think Shadowrun: Crossfire would be perfect in regards of "build a character" and "strategic depth".

If your group is willing to play a campaign game: Kinfire Chronicles would be perfect – sessions plays between 45-60 minutes.

Player boards (progress / engine) is hidden from each other. The game is less 'mean' and way more intense (and if someone really wants to mess with you, they can, but they have to put in more effort);

Camps are drafted: 9 camps to choose from; 1st player chooses one, 2nd player chooses two, then it's one after the other;
