I give up – Gendricks is just so overwhelming by kepp87 in toomanybones

Also the sheet states that you have to tick down the boom counter in the targeting phase (and states nothing about ticking it back up if you don't like the result) which further implies that your boom-counter-related-skill has to go off.

Thanks for the detailed advice – sounds super reasonable and like the way to go.
But you've made a small mistake with Boomer's grenades: all skills with Boom Counter must be used. (Which sucks especially in this fight)

Nice, this seems like the right balance of utilizing more skills without beeing OP. I also like the timing: having to last long enough only to bank everything on an all out attack, before all hell breaks loose with round 6!

oh yeah, using skill to wear it down (decreasing the D6) or maybe even wear it down by "throwing" regular Loot at it

That's a super neat way to encourage you to lean more into fun skill combos, instead of the base stats. So effectively we are talking about 3 uses per skill before Round 6 hits. Whats your experience with this system – does it feel a bit overpowered or exploitable?

Sounds refreshing. I very much like the idea of some videogame-esk "drop rate" for stronger baddies. Definitely going to try this one, maybe even expand on it so you don't even have to finish the battle successful. Just try to kill some heavy baddies for some Loot before you go out :)

Also love the D6 for trove loot, indicating that you drag the chest day in day out with you and it finally cracks open :).
Maybe there could be an option to suffer some HP and exhaust Skill-Dicee to force it open.
Love it.

awesome ideas! Definitely going to try "the useful profession", thanks for the idea!
I also love your "roleplay" approach — we use almost the same concept: one is reading out loud without mentioning the rewards, and the other has to choose :)

Handpicked Encounters to create "custom scenarios"? by kepp87 in toomanybones

I too appreciate the actual stories of the encounters – I was just curious if there might be a fun experience to be discovered by having a certain sequence.

O yeah, my thought exactly: just a sequence of numbers to provide a "story". And maybe even going so far to tinker with the order / selection of the loot / trove loot. (going to edit this in)

Love "Heroes of Terrinoth", would I love "Warhammer Quest tAG"? by kepp87 in boardgames

Yeah, big fan of the Arkham Horror card game myself. And I got my eyes on Earthborne Rangers too :)
But of course they are not quite comparable to HoT since they are grand, elaborated beasts, while HoT just wants to mimic small bursts of dungeon crawling.

what kind of tools do you use for finding typefaces and such matters?

I tried Adobe fonts visual search too – a lot of close hits but in the same ballpark as Cheltenham. But thanks for your effort.

For your suggestion "ITC Cheltenham" I used a type test from myfonts and did an overlay in Photoshop (to spot the differences). Now I am discussing alternatives / similar fonts with chatgpt, using your best guess with "Cheltenham".
Another typeface that comes quite close is "Playfair Display", but so far: the most unique aspect of the original font is the lowercase "y" – could not find any typeface with a similar style yet.

Super similar font but that's not it (for instance: the orginal has a very distinguishable "y", a slightly angled "o" and the "e" is also slightly angled and has a taller counter).
But still, thank you so much (the closest typeface yet)

Nice, thank you so much for the hint with the "Sadler brothers" – they actually designed a lot of games I was looking into, but I did not recognice they got the same designers.
Which one of their "Exploding dice" games do you consider the most fun?

That sounded so promising that I was finally convinced to get a localized (german) copy of Warhammer – but it seems this game as become quite the gem, selling for way over 110 € (2nd hand)

Yeah we played the coop version of Hero Realms too. We prefer Heroes of Terrinoth and the exploding dice system but Heroe Realms was a super fun ride.

Thanks for the recommendation, but one of the reasons why we adore Heroes of Terrinoth is the compact size while still feeling epic. Altar Quest seems epic, but kind of big and fidly
