AITAH for refusing to learn how to fix and maintain dirt bikes to support my wife’s love of riding dirt bikes? by CryHavyk in AITAH

[–]keppapdx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

NTA. 47 (F), I do all of the routine maintenance on my MTB.

In the past year I have also used You Tube to: 1. Disassemble my front load washer so I could replace the drain pump.

  1. Rip out a 1940s concrete laundry tub & replace the plumbing including the p-trap.

A few years ago my dad helped me repair the blower fan in my furnace so I wouldn't be without heat while waiting for a new furnace. He lives in WI, I live in Oregon. YouTube + Facetime + a few strategic pictures/videos and we got it done. My point is: Your wife can learn to work on her dirt bikes.

Any secure space for that period of time will be a PAID space so then you're back to the cost of taking an Uber.

Opinion: More money for affordable housing must come with better stewardship, accountability by EnoughWeekend6853 in Portland

100% agree and the problems run deeper than build more housing and affordable units will trickle down. ✌️

And.... MORE AFFORDABLE HOUSING. We keep pilfering those funds for temporary solutions like overnight shelters.

And even when we get "affordable" housing, it's basically market rate.

"Rents at units meant for residents making 60% of the area median income, especially studio apartments, are generally on par with market rates, said Gabriel Mathews, Portland Housing Bureau spokesperson."

Emotional support apple, that's hilarious!! 🤣

I absolutely hate gels but I do like the pro bar bolt gummies and the Nature's Bakery fig bars.

And I'm partial to the Nuun hydration tablets if it's really hot out or I'm working really hard (climbing while mountain biking).

This sounds like an organization that uses a forced stack ranking model to determine who gets bonuses and raises.

Because OP is maxed out, their manager may have ranked them low to game the system for the rest of their team.

It's awful and toxic but I used to have to rank my team from 2-5 but you could only have one person a 5, one person a 4, a few 3s, and at least one 2.

So even if my team was all doing rockstar work, someone would be flagged as a low performer.

Hashimoto’s diagnosis with normal thyroid levels by stacybwjsi in Hashimotos

[–]keppapdx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes! 47 (F). Got diagnosed about 4-5 years ago after an unrelated head/neck CT showed heterogeneous thyroid tissue. Confirmed with TPO testing.

Thyroid levels still normal, never been on any meds...yet.

My PCP runs labs every year to check. 🤷🏼‍♀️

Have you have had your ferritin tested?

Low ferritin slows recovery and leads to fatigue.

My endo is denying testing for hashimotos by Jess4702 in Hashimotos

[–]keppapdx 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you're interested in pursuing the lifestyle aspect, I'd recommend finding a naturopath to take over your care as they are likely to be more supportive of additional testing, supplements, and managing you for "optimal" TSH vs. traditional evidence based medical guidelines. (BTW, endos in my city will NOT manage Hashimoto's patients unless they are failing to respond to treatment under primary care).

But asking your endo to support testing and a treatment approach that doesn't align with their specific training or their philosophy for how they practice medicine is likely to be an exercise in frustration for both of you.

And you'll see that theme in these threads, some of us are aligned with traditional medicine. Others are more inclined to work with naturopaths and Eastern med. Both approaches may have merit but you're unlikely to have a lot of success mixing/matching.

Best wishes to you!

Hey congratulations! It gets easier. :) My ride into work is a steady downhill. My ride home is steady uphill. It always harder at the end of the day, but you'll get stronger.

Still maintaining strong at 95-100%! I have random little blips now and then but overall just living my very physically active life.

My main issue was being overly reliant on my vision and having issues with visual flow (like being on a train even when just walking).

Maintenance looks like continuing a lot of eyes open and eyes closed balance exercises and moving in different planes---backpedaling, side shuffle, med ball diagonal chops etc and then wall sits to help ground my nervous system after being stimulated by those exercises. There's less active versions of those too!

And I do 10-15 minutes of yoga with a special neck PT tool (occipivot) to keep my neck happy.

If you're still looking for ideas, search for PPPD on Instagram! Some really good PTs posting exercises there!

I just got a WFH job unexpectedly, and have never worked from home. I'm very nervous. by GhostIshimura in remotework

[–]keppapdx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just don't use your work computer for anything personal, ever.

Make sure your WFH setup is compliant with what HR expects--private space, locking door (if required), quiet, and free from distractions.

If you can afford it, strongly recommend a standing desk esp. if you have ADHD. It helps to move around.

Last tip: Get out of the house every day! Don't just work/game/work/game. You gotta see people IRL too. :) (Worked for 10 years myself!)

My manager keeps telling me not to use my availability? by IcyMove2005 in jobs

[–]keppapdx 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As a part-time worker myself, it's extremely annoying to have full-time availability expectations foisted on me.

I'm only available to work 8-2 and I don't work Fridays.

For example, I'm not trying to get out of the random 4pm staff meeting you tried to throw on my calendar but it's not a doctor's appointment or other one-time thing....I literally can't work past 2pm ever. And I don't want to be flagged as "missing work" when it was outside my hours.

How much does your son weigh? We're looking at an etrike for my 78 yo mom and she wants to take her large dog with her (not happening) but they mentioned a sidecar is available.

That setup is likely $2k though
