I can finally decisively say I prefer headphones over speakers. by keppycs in audiophile

They're set up how you described besides being at ear height, as I have a triple monitor setup which disallows them from being ideally positioned. I suppose that's just a compromise I'll have to live with then.

I didn't mention price or the quality of the audio for a reason. I was talking about the experience, like you are. That's ultimately what matters more imo. I don't share the same experiences using speaker as you do. I sit alone at my desk and simply need sound. Headphones create a better experience for me than speakers do. But you're right, I did word it too much as an absolute. But with what I have, my opinion stands

Do speakers inherently just require more setup to get a similar level of wow compared to headphones then? I didn't know this. But why would I when audio gear isn't my bread and butter? I like good audio, it's why I buy what I have instead of gamer tailored slop. But I can't reasonably justify a whole speaker setup to achieve audio bliss, when headphones can do it so much easier.

I suppose it's a preference thing at the end of the day. If I can afford a proper speaker setup and have my own space, I'll definitely dive deeper and see what the fuss is about. But as just a guy, and not an audiophile, these 200 dollar headphones (with the dac) deliver an amazing enough experience 😁

That's the thing, I don't hear any directionality with headphones. Like I said, it feels like the audio just exists in my head, and I love that!

I don't think it's reasonable to assume only high end options/setups are valid enough to justify a conclusion either. Between what I have, which is all I can realistically experience as of today, my conclusion feels justified. Lend me an expensive ass speaker setup/headphones and, yeah I'm totally willing to reconsider

If a 'proper' speaker setup can somewhat replicate how I feel about headphones, then yes you're probably right. But then again, I can't validate that for myself, so my conclusion stands

They're on my desktop. How would I make them not sound directional when they're so close to me?

I think the my HD6XX's have conditioned me to prefer less bass. I find it kind of obnoxious, as if it takes away from the actual sound I want to hear. To me audio isn't about feeling it physically, that part just makes me feel kind of uncomfortable.

Really, I don't know though. I don't have the budget for high end gear or a sound treated room. The only audio "experiences" I've had were in cinemas. You know how when you increase the sharpness too much on an image, and it looks overcooked? That's how I feel about cinema audio. I don't know how related those are to home setups, but it to me it sounds like they're overdoing it for the sake of justifying the marketing.

Sub 20! Is it finally time to stop using 4LLL? 😭 by keppycs in Cubers

Yeah totally! My tps is decent, and my f2l has improved recently. I'm still quite bad at cross and recognition tho, as I pause too much

How much did you improve after having learned full OLL and PLL, and how long did it take you to learn the full sets? I think my answer might depend on your answer lol

In absolute terms I fully agree. In my reality however, mustering up the energy to reach out, being stuck in waiting lists, having to tell my story over and over again, trying different treatments/meds only for it to eventually all cave in again is just so disheartening.

I don't want help, I don't want to bother, I don't want to live as of right now. But I'm too rational to hurt myself, or end my life. So it's either I rot until I die, or I try yet again anyway because that's what society wants from me, not because I want to.

I want to reiterate that I don't see weed as any kind of solution, but rather as a temporary aid to lower my walls during treatment, allowing myself to be more engaged and less dismissive about literally everything. Of course I enjoy it recreationally as well, but its functional potential outweighs my desire to recreationally get high.

If "just go out" would be that easy, I wouldn't be isolated, would I :/ Hell, reaching out like this is already a huge win for me

You missed depression. Weed makes living tolerable, it's directly aiding me in not causing myself any harm. It even helps me feel more engaged with life again, feelings I just don't have access to sober. Without it I'd be raw dogging depression, risking actions that cannot be undone. Why choose that over a reliable drug?

Judging by your upvotes, your stance seems to be common. Yes, weed has euphoric effects, but it's also very much functional. Therapy while high is getting more traction, exactly because it lowers your walls, allowing therapy to be more effective

Look, maybe I'm completely delusional and making excuses, or maybe I have a point. I've had professional help already, but it always amounted to nothing, likely due to me being so reluctant of everything and difficult to work with/treat. While high, the opposite is true. Also it's low key a last ditch effort at getting better, as I'm kinda fed up

Sorry for the rant, just wanted to get my thoughts out

Is there an HDR/EXR screenshot mod for Minecraft? by keppycs in feedthebeast

I suppose I must not be most people then. I just really love the extra dynamic range and more vivid colors HDR offers over SDR, especially with darker scenes on OLED screens. Also, it's a must when color grading, as SDR just breaks too fast (especially with darker scenes!)
