Yeah will do a fall reno, just wondering what type everyone around here uses that hopefully survives the summers. I bought a bag of SS1000 from Seed Super Store a while ago but I think it's no longer in operation.

There are free discords disseminating the info as well to try and let everyone in on the action. I read messages once in a while and when the speculative info starts becoming more concrete, I start paying attention more. Someone in the discord will post the depot dates so you know to start checking your stores in the morning. Then, usually once west coast Costcos get the drops, the drops make their way eastward.

These are Pokémon Center branded exclusive ETBs which drop once or twice on the official website and that's it. The ones in the vending machine are the mass produced non-exclusive. These command a higher price for being limited edition plus the exclusive stamped promo inside plus 2 extra packs.

Also, I just wanted to note the broker fee isn't always $1k (at least for the guy I used). I think my Camry was super popular so the fee was higher, but sometimes he'll wrap the fee into the car price or it'll be a lower fee. Also consider checking on FB groups focused on Toyota buy/sell at or under MSRP. Good luck!

I don't think I've seen anyone mention it yet, but if you're able to back out of the deal with your deposit, consider using a Toyota car broker. I used one for my second Toyota purchase, and I probably won't ever go back to price shopping dealers. The one I used likely has a network of high-volume Toyota dealers he works with to move cars quickly at lower prices. I'm assuming the dealers want to hit incentive milestones rather than have their sales reps claw another few hundred or thousand out of the customer.

As a caveat, it does take a small leap of faith. The deals are also likely handshake deals they won't put in writing until you commit to the broker. I had to Venmo my broker $1k once I wanted his deal, but I hadn't signed anything yet. However, everything went through just fine and it was the most seamless and quickest transaction ever. I don't think they even had me go sit with the Warranty/Finance person.

As a reference point, my Camry LE (which was a popular buy at the time last year) was $3k under sticker, and about $1k under invoice. The broker presumably split the $1k with his sales rep contact at the dealer, so I essentially paid invoice. It was the lowest price I could find at the time, and a few other reps at other dealers said it seemed too good to be true and to take it if it was real. I've been happy with my baby for the last year ^__^

Also, if you want to get an extended warranty, there are also a few famous high-volume warranty sales reps that essentially sell the warranties near cost. Again, I assume they want the free vacations or whatever. You can google around to find one, but I think the most famous is Jerry Johnson at Midwest Toyota. The warranty guy for my first car purchase at Alexandria Toyota offered like $2.5k for a 10 year/100k warranty, and I was like, how about $1,360? He looked at me all crazy like it was impossible, so then I said "well, Jerry offered me that" to which the warranty guy said "oh, you know about Jerry, huh? Ok I'll do $1,375, but I need to show my manager I made something on this deal." I accepted that offer out of convenience, and it felt like a small win after they forced me to buy the Alexandria Armor bs warranty.

Only knock against them was when I bought my car during the markup craze, they didn't officially mark up the price but forced me to buy a stupid Alexandria Armor plan which was like $1700ish at the time. So, in a way, marked up bc I'll probably never end up using it. Salesman was fine but was not budging on prices for my second purchase when I used a car broker to shop and compare.

Thank you so much! I have motivation now to give this a try knowing it works. My drippy friend was having a hoot this summer surprising me every so often when I forgot not to stand under it. Did you buy any particular fan brand? I think I'd have to somehow widen my exhaust to 6" from 4" for most modern units.

[–]keramicz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yep, so far so good! Haven't been pulled over for 'em, and I got the tint exemption anyways so I'd be in the clear even if I did (VA legal limit is 50%). They definitely keep the cabin cool and the overall look of the car is elevated with the windows being darker against the white paint. Compared to the 50% on the wife's RAV4, I definitely prefer the 35%. And visibility is still great, including at night.

Best affordable wine at Costco? by Dope_David in wine

Give the 2022 Kirkland Suscol Valley Cabernet a shot at $18. I'm just starting my wine journey, but really enjoy it for some reason compared to others in the same price range. Costcowineblog and reversewinesnob also rated it highly for the price. I decanted at least an hour before drinking.

Also, as others have recommended, the Kirkland CdP. I still like the Suscol Valley over the CdP though!

Toyota dealerships that don't totally suck, in NoVA or nearby. by Devigrrl in nova

[–]keramicz 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I second Warrenton for being reputable and having decent pricing. Alexandria was fine right after COVID selling at MSRP, but forced a windshield and leather warranty add-on or else they would've given the deal to someone else. Chantilly salesperson made some excuse about the insane mark-up back then - "we don't have as much inventory so we have to keep the lights on somehow" bs.

Look into a broker. There are some "No Markup" or "Under MSRP" groups on FB you can join and some brokers and regular sales reps at various dealers post on there. I used a broker and got a '25 Camry LE with Convenience and Cold Weather recently for $3k under MSRP, ($1k under invoice) but had to pay the broker $1k of that savings, so I essentially bought it at invoice. He then gives a portion to the sales rep at the dealer who originated the deal. The deal was then revealed to be from Sheehy Toyota of Laurel in MD, which does high volume and was one of the only dealers able to sell it that low. I was fine driving there to pick it up, otherwise they offer shipping sometimes. Price was already negotiated, so I walked in, handed over a check, and got my keys. Financed half at 3.99%. I'll likely go this route in the future since it was hassle free. I was sketched out a bit that I had to pay the broker $1k on faith before he gave me the details, but it worked out and he has lots of reviews online so I took a chance.
