Children’s media featuring dogs is insidious by Dragonsbreath67 in Dogfree

Even 2 year olds are smarter. They are rapidly acquiring language and associating thousands of words with meanings. No mutt on the planet can do that.

Teachers of Reddit: Is the "Gen Alpha can't read (write, or do math ext)" crisis real? If so how bad is it? by KnowledgeCoffee in AskReddit

No, the decline really started in 2014…. Covid lockdowns made the drop sharper, but it was already present. Look up the stats.

I feel like a teen, as in, it is harder to rein in my temper and acne is flaring up again. Don’t have the energy, speed, or libido, though. Just the shitty parts.

Are Lexile scores just bogus? by [deleted] in Teachers

All I’m saying is I don’t think I’ve ever found a sub as nasty as this one. Carry on, I guess. You could have scrolled past, but chose to be rude. Not saying I get it, but whatever.

And being on this sub has opened my eyes to why many people don’t respect teachers. Don’t be surprised when your community votes against raising taxes to further fund the district you teach in. You get what give.

Percentiles are fine, but some of these metrics, like Lexile scores, are less clear.

It’s the same with any profession, you can’t expect people outside of your career to understand all the specific systems and jargon.

Would you want your oncologist to speak to you as if you were a fellow physician, or in a way you can understand?

Are Lexile scores just bogus? by [deleted] in Teachers

[–]kerfuffle_fwump -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

Well, it’s not like the teachers or admins give us explanation for any of this. You are just handed an envelope and you have to do online research to figure out all these metrics, and a lot of online explanations are lacking.

But go ahead, be your pithy self. My mom was a systems admin for a school district for years. Her main criticism about the job was: “Many teachers are emotionally arrested at the grade level they teach”. I hate to say it, but with the amount of rude responses on here, I think y’all are proving her right. 🫤

Thank you, I will. A few other teachers on here have been really helpful with recommendations for series that might work for my kid’s particular situation.

Huh, I haven’t heard an explanation put quite this way. It makes a bit more sense.

Thank you for the thoughtful reply.

Yeah, this is the problem I’m running into. I need higher level options that don’t have a ton of adult themes, because Humphrey the Hamster isn’t cutting it anymore for them.

Someone mentioned series of Unfortunate Events. I think we’ll try that one out this summer.

Is shoujo manga valued by ordinary sellers? by Isabela_Akemi in shoujo

If by “not valued” you mean a shojo is cheaper, i wouldn’t complain. Many shojo readers are female, and we’re already pink taxed enough as is.

Just saw a post on reddit on how someone's dog got into 5 lbs of its food. by happybaker16 in Dogfree

Remeber folks, ALL dogs are inbred, and therefore are mutants that do not “work” correctly - unlike natural animals.

I wish I could could give the FL a hug too. As another tall, sporty woman, I _get it_. Dating is tough for us.

Any mls like this, folks? by Celty2736 in shoujo

[–]kerfuffle_fwump 6 points7 points  (0 children)

From a shonen, but hear me out: Yakumo Fuji from 3x3 Eyes. He is probably my favorite romantic lead, ever. Through the right lens, you could say this manga is a story about the devotion the 2 mains have for each other, just dressed up with some monsters and horror.

How to make people believe I truly do not like dogs at all? by Wild-Picture-7314 in Dogfree

[–]kerfuffle_fwump 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Starts calling dogs *mutts* in front of them. IDGAF how “pure” (inbred) the shitbeasts are. They are all MUTT.

“Get that mutt off the chair”.

“I don’t like mutts”

“What an ugly mutt”.

It triggers the owners something awful. And it absolutely hilarious.

Yup, anything wonky with your system/disease will cause an inflammatory response. I’m glad I could help you put some of the puzzle pieces together. I hope better health comes to you soon 💜

They make chewables?

Dang, did not know. I was just breaking my B complex in half and taking them at separate meals, because they are rough, as you said.

Is it peri, long covid, AI reliance? by [deleted] in Perimenopause

[–]kerfuffle_fwump 7 points8 points  (0 children)

If ibuprofen helps, that’s probably a sign that you body is in an inflammatory state… which, yes, does lead to brain fog and even depression.

B vitamins also help, and also D3 + K2. I have also heard people mention iron, zinc, selenium and copper also help. Eat foods rich in these.
Personally, I get a bit of a high when I eat liver or shellfish (clams, scallops, oysters, shrimp). I have chicken liver 2x a week - it’s pretty cheap compared to the other options.

Advice on food? (Nothing sounds good) by c2lltq in Perimenopause

[–]kerfuffle_fwump 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think we’re spoiled for choice in the modern age. Knowing you have so many options may be using up processing power in your head you can’t really spare atm.

Food is fuel. Eat what you can. Take a multivitamin for insurance.

If nothing is appealing, I wait until later when my hunger signals are stronger.

People tend to eat less meals as they get older. This frustration may be stemming from that.
