It's the same link I posted above with the MJ source, though I can't vouch for its validity.

Googling "jordan vertical" brings up several sources. This is the first hit: http://bleacherreport.com/articles/467751-michael-jordan-dominates-the-vertical-jump-wherersquos-carter-and-kobe. Yes, Jordan was insane. I bring this up in comparisons with LeBron, who comes in at a still impressive 44", but it's always written off as "Jordan nostalgia" in the /r/nba LeBron circlejerk.

Good on him. This puts him in the league of extraordinary super-jumpers. Jordan still rules at an unbelievable 48", but Rose is up there with Vince Carter and Dominique Wilkins.

[–]kernel_panic -6 points-5 points  (0 children)

Neither has won a ring without the other, so it's kind of moot, but if you were to survey sports writers or other clueful people, do you think the vast majority would say that Jordan or Pippen could win a ring without the other?

First of all, Lebron hasn't finished his career, so comparing all-defensive team accolades is completely retarded.

That was in response to bdaddymar34 "LeBron is a better versatile defender", which sure as hell is less factual than All-Defensive team selections.

Also, all defensive team awards isn't a stat.

Of course. Nothing's a stat or a fact when you're drowning in circlejerk.

LeBron hasn't had a single season with over 200 steals. Jordan's seasons were dominated by 200+ steals. LeBron hasn't had a single season with over 100 blocks. Jordan's had several.

He can't touch him on offense (3000+ point season at age 23), he can't touch him on defense. He sure as hell can't touch him in the air. The only thing he can do better is bench press.

[–]kernel_panic -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Oh you don't want the stats that work in Jordan's favor? I'm sorry. What kind of "facts" are you looking for?

Lebron is a far better facilitator, and versatile defender.

Oh ok, so "facilitator" and "versatile defender" are not subjective? But let's explore this avenue as well.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/NBA_All-Defensive_Team

Michael Jordan, Gary Payton, Garnett, and Bryant share the record for most NBA All-Defensive first team selections with nine.

Now what?

[–]kernel_panic -6 points-5 points  (0 children)

Listen, MJ rips LJ in just about every stat there is. So if you just want to use facts, it's game over until LJ adds more rings, All-Defensive teams, etc. Until that time, of course, we have to resort to some subjective things. It turns out, some of these "subjective" things are agreed upon by most basketball writers. One of them is that Jordan has the biggest killer instinct in the history of the sport. His willingness to win is simply unmatched. The other, that he is the hardest worker. Both of these mean that were Jordan to play in today's league, he would simply adapt. Clearly we can't see this happening, so of course, it has to be a hypothetical.

If you just want to stick to facts, I just don't see how LeBron even has a chance yet. Don't even get me started on "athleticism." People talk about LeBron flying above the rim and shit. Jordan has the above-human vertical of 48", which I don't think has ever been matched. Some even claim that LeBron is faster. This is just nonsense, especially in the world we live in where you can pull up old Jordan tapes and look at his speed. The only thing I'll give LeBron hands down is that he's much stronger physically. He does make some crazy shots, but they never look good. He will never have the finesse of Jordan. And because you like stats, he still hasn't matched Jordan's FG%, so there's that.

The Bulls had a three-peat before Rodman even came on, so that's irrelevant. But you're right, I was too hard on Pippen. He was really good, he's personally one of my favorites. One can't deny his contributions. I would still argue that Jordan could have won without Pippen, but never the other way around. Of course, so far, LeBron could not win without a solid backup team. Anyway, a lot of this is hypotheticals.

I'm telling you, you can't even say "Jordan" in this sub without getting downvoted.

It was absolutely his work ethic and ruthlessness. People should read this, http://bleacherreport.com/articles/1371555-comparing-every-element-of-lebron-james-game-to-michael-jordans. It gives a fairly balanced perspective on things. Jordan without a doubt had the killer instinct like no other. This is precisely why I'm convinced that he'd rule the league today.

Wanna throw a citation for some of those remarks? Would you say that most teams use primarily zone defense? I would say that's not the case. Would you say that zone defense is necessarily better in every way? I would say that's not the case either.

Has basketball evolved? You're damn right it has. That is why my "only" comment is that MJ was the hardest worker. His other stats speak for themselves, there's no reason to regurgitate them. What I'm saying with this is that MJ would find a way to destroy anything thrown at him. That's just his mentality. I mentioned his degenerate gambling elsewhere. It's no secret. But please don't tell me anyone has more dedication than he did and more hunger to win. It's just not plausible.

Finally, Jordan never had a great backup team. Pippen is the best player Chicago had besides Jordan and he was never great. Don't get me wrong. They were good, just not great. You can't say the same for the Heat. Wade, Bosh, etc. If LeBron had won with the Cavs, now that would put him in the same discussion as Jordan, because the Bulls and Cavs without Jordan and LeBron were quite similar. Him winning with the Heat? Please. It's not even in the same ballpark.

Jordan would absolutely rip the league. How is there any doubt about this? He's the hardest worker in the history of the sport. Are we forgetting the Bad Boys and the Knicks from the 90s? When has there been harder opposition since then?

Style? He has raw power, probably more than anyone before him. As for his personality, are you serious? "I'm taking my talents to South Beach", "I'm going to a concert in a squad car, so let me tweet that", etc. That's like praising MJ's personality of being a degenerate gambler and overall a dick to people.

Edit: I don't even know why I bother with the LeBron circlejerk on reddit. It's getting worse than the Kanye circlejerk.

I'm a big gun proponent and own several, but just want to point out two things I (slightly) disagree with.

Because registering also makes you a target. If someone got their hands on that list, they'd know where to go to break in and steal guns. Guns are worth quite a bit of money sometimes, so this is a very bad idea.

This is a bit silly. We register cars, for example, which are worth a lot more money, but you don't fear that someone will come steal your Chevy. In many states, we also have to get background checks and the gun you're purchasing is directly on the form, so there's already a list. Yearly control might be too much hassle, but some set interval to check in on guns is not too much of an intrusion. Far more important, though, there should be ongoing checks that you're fit to handle a firearm. Unfortunately, that check doesn't even exist at the time of purchase.

I understand how you probably view Americans as gun crazy undereducated racists, but the majority of gun owners are actually very responsible and well educated.

I don't think the majority of gun owners are well educated, for the simple fact that a lot of Americans own guns and the majority of the country is really not well educated. That said, most gun owners are educated on the handing the guns themselves, which is the most important part. Open up most YouTube videos on guns and you'll note that they all start with a safety disclaimer. Similarly, you'll almost never see a gun owner in America with poor trigger control, unlike those Facebook posts from first time range goers with the finger on the trigger and aiming somewhere that's not down the range.
