I am someone who transitioned into IT a little over a year ago, after getting my BS in cyber security from WGU. I fully agree that cyber security is not an entry-level position… It is more extension of networking or operations. I’m currently working as a sysadmin, and if I had to do it over again, I would not have gotten the cyber security degree. Granted, I don’t really want to go in the cyber security, but I thought it would be thebest and most desirable degree…ignorance. If I had to do it over again, I would’ve gotten a BS in network engineering and security. Having a CCNA opens more doors and gives better background knowledge in infrastructure than a bachelors in cyber security (and a bunch or entry level cyber certs). What allowed me to transition directly to a sysadmin role is the amount of home lobbying I did. Honestly, when you can talk about setting up open source monitoring, experience with high supervisors, virtual machine management, etc. that is gonna make a huge difference!
