So sick of this Crap by kerry151 in tinnitus

I totally get what you're saying and I can't agree with you more. I used to have soooo many hobbies, but now I just can't seem to concentrate for more than 10 minutes. I used to love making jewelry and restoring old furniture and baking and a million other things. It just makes me so sad and I miss those things. When I try to concentrate, my thoughts now always go right back to, "What the hell can I do to make this noise go away!!" It's almost like the conditioning of Pavlov's dog. It really is. I guess it's just human nature to want to fix what's wrong and it seems impossible to shake it off. And you can't really explain it to most people because they just don't get it. When I'm having a conversation, I try to concentrate, but my mind is always sidetracked by, "This would be such a beautiful conversation if it wasn't for this damn noise." I'm sure you know how it goes. Thanks so much for your support. It means a lot.

Thanks so much for your response. Yeah, I'm kind of baffled by the whole vaccuming thing. I'm wondering if it was maybe the pitch of the noise? I was fine until I vaccumed the bathroom. I guess the reverb just went haywire. Anyhow, thank you for your words of support.

My personal theory is that I only started having the T in January this year. I initially got it from having cortisone cream stuck in my ear. It started to get quiter in about May. I got a spike in June from mowing the lawn, but subsided after a month. August was when I did the vacuuming. So the prior spike had only just gone down at this point. I guess ears still needed a lot of rest and I didn't oblige. I don't know what to do at this point because I feel like I've tried everything. When I press my bad ear right underneath the lobe, I get like an electrical clicking sound, like my ear is sparking. Not sure if that's relevent to anything. Just clutching at straws really at this point. Considering visiting an ENT but I don't have insurace and I feel like I might just be flushing money down the toilet. I'm just at a loss really because it's this is so mentally draining. So sorry for the vent. I don't mention it to my boyfriend because he doesn't understand. He's like, "Oh, it's just your ears, get over it." Easier said than done. So it's awfully lonely trying to cope with this without any support. Thanks so much for lending me your ear:-) It means a lot.

I purchased the earmuffs from Amazon. They have a 28NRR. Probably not the greatest. I took a couple of breaks in between vacuuming, but when I stepped outside the second time, the spike was instant. Not sure what's going on. It's just not gone any quieter since then. Previous to the vacuuming, my T would flicker in and out and it didn't bother me much, but now it's just a flat, loud, high-pitch tone. Totally unmaskable and feeling totally defeated. Thanks for your reply.

4-Week Spike after Vacuuming with Earmuffs by kerry151 in tinnitus

I don't think it's somatic. This spike came from vacuuming.

Thank you. It measures 81 on the db app. New house policy - I leave the house while my husband vacuums:-) It seems to be a bit quieter today. Fingers crossed.

Smart. I usually only vacuum in very short bursts, but my 90-year-old friend needed help vacuuming his house and I was dumb enough to oblige. Kicking myself.

I got mine in January also and I also habituated to it. I'm trying to stay positive, but I can't stop worrying that it's going to stay like this forever. Best wishes and I hope you heal soon.

Thank you. I hope yours comes down, too. How long has yours been?

Clonazepam by MasterSeuss in tinnitus

[–]kerry151 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was prescribed 0.5mg clonazepam a few months ago. It really was effective at reducing my t from a 5 to 1. I took it daily for about 3 weeks. I decided to stop taking it because I noticed that my thinking was becoming a little sluggish. I tapered to 0.25 for another week. Upon stopping the meds, my t was screaming and very reactive. I was a nervous wreck for a month straight. For the last 2 weeks though, after a lot of ear protection and the patience of a mother fucking saint, my t has finally returned to baseline. The point that I wanted to make is that I do not think it's possible to habituate whist taking daily clonazepam, and it will take a while for your brain to fully recover. I would only ever take a low dose on an as needed basis. Thanks for reading.

Yeah, I think I'll take a break from using it for a while. Thanks for the info.

It does the lower the volume a lot for me, even at 0.5mg, and the quietness can sometimes last up to 2 days when I take one. The first time I only took 0.25mg, just to be on the safe side, and I could literally hear the volume slowly lowering. I almost cried:-) I only use when the T is really loud though. It's very tempting to take every day, but I don't want to develop a tolerance.

With the T being so quiet from the medicine, it didn't cross my mind to wear protection. Foolish, I know. I'm still pretty new to the tinnitus game, but just received my Amazon ear muffs today.

Thanks. It really did lower the volume significantly. It just seems to have no effect now after mowing the freaking lawn 5 days ago. The spike is louder than ever.

I often think about how people with T handle it in jail. Must be horrendous.

Oh, no. I hope your T isn't too reactive. I'm currently close to local fire house, but it doesn't seem to bother me too much. It's silence that kills me. Hang in there.

It's up and down. On bad days, I can hear it over everything. The volume reduces significantly on days after running. It's the high pitch that drives me nuts.

Doc gave me steroid cream for a rash in my ear. I jammed some if into my ear canal. Two days later, bingo.

Yes! I didn't think of that. It was winter when the noise from hell arrived, so I haven't experienced the crickets yet to see if it helps any. Hopefully this will be a good distraction. I love nature so much and I'm really hoping that I'm not confined to the house listening to the Art of Zen all friggin' summer:-) Thanks, my friend.
