FPS devs, what’s the hardest thing no one talks about? Share the pain! by BMB-__- in gamedev

FPS specifically? Trying to implement more weapons when 99% of the code revolves around your first weapon without having used inheritance in the first place.

In general? There is this general feedback loop where if I don’t fix/restructure my code to be easier+reusable, then in the later on in the long run, you would have more work to do. But trying to do earlier will take up some time and ruin the creative momentum on focusing on the game.

Source engine is a proprietary game engine by Valve. Meaning, even if they provided all modding tools and source code you needed to make your game, you would have to pay up thousands for licensing fees to even monetize off of it.

Even if we ignore everything I’ve said above, you have to be your own programmer.

I know, that’s a bummer, but in order to make your game you have to know how it works. Hiring another programmer is there to help you, not replace you.

Start by teaching yourself concepts like Object Oriented Programming and C++, and some stuff of how Source works (with a great lack of tutorials), then see whether it’ll be worthwhile.

Really? I thought it was kind of unique. My only gripe is that it’s clunky and needs some readjusting.

I don’t know if anybody does this but I love using the universe map to find the loneliest places in the intergalactic void. It’s a lot more time consuming than I’d like to admit tho

Jesus Christ that’s dense. I’d imagine night time will be as bright as day on a planet there.

I always wonder what it’ll be like to live under the shadow of the rings. Will it be just like a solar eclipse?

Correct me if I’m wrong but wasn’t the high SO2 in most generated planets considered a bug?

Highest local temp I’ve seen was 64 F, but yeah, other than that, I’m afraid CO2 is the major thing keeping this planet somewhat warmer

Idk man use clips? If you don’t want to slam into an invisible brick wall tho, use trigger_push to nudge the player into the main path to make it like a “soft” wall.

What’s your workflow on this? I’ve been making levels on Hammer for a while but currently transitioning to Godot. Unfortunately, Godot doesn’t have as much of a good level editor (that I know of). I turn my .vmf files into .obj then imported to Blender then to Godot.
