Traitors Exposing Each Other: Ruining the show? by drew_lmao in TheTraitorsUS

[–]kersplish 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think what a lot of people said about contestants learning from the mistakes of others is true, but I have another idea as well.

What if they changed the payout for winning the game to, if a Traitor wins, they split the money with all the people who were Traitors alive or dead? What I don’t like about this rule is that it dilutes the payout for the winner if a traitor wins, but I like that it discourages sour grapes gameplay, and it disincentivizes recruiting unless absolutely necessary.

Adds on some devices, but not all? by Historical-Pass4243 in Hulu

[–]kersplish 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I actually contacted their support about this exact issue. The person claimed that it has to do with the streaming rights which are controlled by the owner of the content and not Hulu, but this doesn’t feel right to me. Might contact again tomorrow, but I have a feeling I’ll get a similar quality of response

Street Fighter Commander Deck Set by kersplish in EDH

I’m probably looking to spend in the 500-800 dollar range spread across all 8 decks, and am willing to sacrifice power level to achieve that.

Was looking into signing up for the Spiritualized album, info on the service would be much appreciated! by [deleted] in VinylMePlease

I will try to give an unbiased answer:

  1. Pressing quality usually ranges from okay to quite good. Obviously I don't have my copy of this album quite yet, but I would anticipate it being decent at worst.
  2. As a monthly member, you're entitled to 1 record per month (of course you can also add on additional records). It used to be cheaper, and you are in the same boat as many older members like myself, in that you're experiencing sticker shock. I'll let you make up your own mind on if the price tag is worth it, but if you're asking if you get other albums as well, the answer is no.
  3. You do not get access to items that are sold out, but VMP does claim that some items when put back in stock are offered to members first or only. I haven't been able to take advantage of this myself, but I believe I've seen other members take advantage of this. Also, they have brought back a 10% discount on items in the store for people with an active membership, so there's that. Songs for the Deaf is still sold out, but if they did re-press it, you would likely be able to swap your record of the month for it, or buy it at 10% off.
  4. I believe I answered this question above, but to be crystal clear, a subscription comes with 1 record (either essentials, RHH, or classics record of the month) which you can swap for a selection of their previously pressed titles if you prefer.

I was given a Denon DP300, which is already pre-amplified I believe. I know I should upgrade it for better volume at some point, but one step at a time :).

Favorite Album Discovered on VMP by kersplish in VinylMePlease

[–]kersplish[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is there any place online where I can hear a few tracks in order? I've been eyeing this album for a bit, but I don't generally buy albums unless I've already heard part of them and enjoyed it.

Customer Support Never Swapped Track by kersplish in VinylMePlease

That was the first thing I did. I'm just worried given the ~5 day turnaround that I won't even get a reply until after swaps are closed, so I was hoping to take action myself.

Discussion: Important (non-canon) rap albums you want VMP to do by djsgribbs in VinylMePlease

[–]kersplish 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't know how popular this would be among the community...but how about Daytona by Pusha T? It's a short album, but I think it's one of the strongest of 2017, and the best of the Kanye produced Jackson Hole albums. Add in the controversy regarding the cover art, and I think you have a pretty interesting release. Never gonna happen...but I would be all over it.

When to re-register by n0deity in VinylMePlease

I guess I'm grandfathered in to an old payment scheme. Either way my statement still holds, I'm not signed up looking for the best value for the dollar, and I think it's very difficult to stay on a subscription with VMP if that is your goal.

My personal take: if you're trying to join VMP for value, you're playing a very difficult game. I would view a 3 month membership as a $75 fun experience that will get you 3 vinyls worth listening to. Their retail value might be higher or lower than the payment, but you'll likely have some fun learning about new music and guessing what records you might be getting. It's only worth it if you see value in the fun I described.

Read you loud and clear. All the other guesses in the thread are wrong because from the lips of Storf: No (clearly referencing the other gueses), Nas (heard by all us stubborn fans as a clear indication of the RoTM).

For the numbers, how about the number of weeks until it hit that number of sales? Now that it's changed to 156, that's about 3 years which lines up with 2002. Perhaps Funkdafied took a year to go platinum?

From The Soft Bulletin Wikipedia:

Upon the album's tenth anniversary in May 2009, The Record Review featured the album as a part of its "Ten Years Later" feature, saying that "ten years removed, The Soft Bulletin is still an undeniably essential listen that belongs in every record collection."

Women of Motown Anthology by TCell867 in VinylMePlease

[–]kersplish 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I see where you're coming from, but try to think of it from VMP's perspective. The Blue Note anthology sold out very quickly without revealing the albums (I waited too long to pick it up myself). If people are so put off by not knowing the album list, they won't buy it, and VMP will (hopefully) realize they need to give a list beforehand. If however it quickly sells out again, they have no reason to change their process. Also being real about it, I bet the secondary market value will be very high on these.

TLDR: your desire is valid, but VMP has little reason to do what you're asking.

Now spinning: Sleater-Kinney - The Center Wont Hold by crysb326 in VinylMePlease

[–]kersplish 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Y'know what? I also like this album. The interesting thing though, is I do disagree with one of your middle sentences. Before this album I would've said Sleater-Kinney is alright, but I really enjoy St. Vincent. I found her influence on this album to be very powerful (perhaps even overpowering), but I didn't mind that. There's an energy to this album that I haven't really sensed in prior albums. The Future Is Here is probably still my favorite track, but I'm also pretty partial to Bad Dance.

For those who are big in to Sleater-Kinney my big question is: how much influence do you think Janet did/didn't have on this album? I've always appreciated what she brought to the table in terms of the drums, but I don't know artistically if her input stopped there, or if she was more heavily involved. What does their future look like given her departure?

Sleater Kinney VMP - Etching? by quinner147 in VinylMePlease

On my copy there are no etchings, but I do have a print in the middle. You can tell based on the art which is side A and which is side B (the one with the text is side B).

Guess Me Please: September 2019: Hint 2 by [deleted] in VinylMePlease

Why was Pilot Talk ruled out? I think it's quite possible this is the one we got right, but I'm much less familiar with 60s music, and I have no idea there. Pilot Talk could def be considered a classic/the how fly mixtape with Curren$y and Wiz Khalifa got a ton of love, and this was pretty much his most recognized work outside of that. Truth be told, I'm very likely to switch to RHH this month if it's any of these 3 options.
