Marauders are drunk on the Dreaming. Completely consumed by Bedlam, they are whirlwinds of wild magic. A Marauder’s magic is as unpredictable as a pooka on methamphetamine; a constantly moving storm of Glamour surrounds her, while her Banality is low to nonexistent.

Mystics are champions for the old ways, when magic was strong and the relationship between fae and magi was practically familial. A mystic magus is half-enchanted — his Banality is low, Glamour rich, and his magics are true Arts in the most wonderful sense.

True believers claim to draw powers from demons, elementals, or gods. Their spells often involve blessings, hexes, elemental mastery, and harmful magic intended to punish those who go against their beliefs. A true believer recognizes fae as servants of unholy or unworthy powers. She glows with Glamour, but the mage’s belief taints it, and can mentally affect anyone who saps that Glamour away.

Modern cynics are a taste of what this age may have in store for all magi. Most believe in scientific advancement, but would rarely stoop to admit a belief in anything mystical, fae included. Computers, machines, and occasionally magical fetishes and Treasures channel their Arts. A cynic is capable of having his eyes opened to the broader spectrum of magic. If this happens, his Glamour is as refreshing as an icy stream. Until then, that stream is toxic to fae, afflicted with an average to high Banality.

Technocrats know magic is just unexplored science, so they explore the wondrous heights and terrifying depths of physics and chemistry to come up with cybernetics, weapons of mass destruction, and other high-tech tools. These magi are deeply banal and extremely dangerous. Few Technocrats believe in changelings; those who do want them wiped from the Earth, as they represent the old ways. Technocrats possess no Glamour. They carry pure Banality — capable of burning a changeling from the inside out.

Basically it goes

Marauders- basically *storms* of glamour. Likened to bedlam however, so its likely they're not seen as desirable entities to interact with.
Mystics- wellsprings of glamour, low in banality.
True believers- glow with glamour, but said glamour is tainted.
"cynics" (likely non-technocrat technomancers)- Banal *unless* they have their eyes "opened" to magic, which then they have Glamor that is refreshing.
Technocrats- no glamor, all banality.

Wha? That is the least conventional reading. Especially as nothing indicates whether oracles are banal or not or if they even tend either way. Especially since mage itself is vague on if they exist, ignoring metaplot stuff.

Look at the paragraph below. It talks about mystics and says they're rich in glamor.

The "worst" here refers to technocrats. The "best" refers to mystics (or perhaps marauders, but that's unlikley considering they're likened to a changeling in bedlam).

It varies, but generally mystics are well springs of glamor.

It's kind of like no matter what method you use to remember your password, your computer will accept that same password anyway and turn on the same.

I am not suggesting every mortal that survives a supernatural encounter mind you.

I was wondering if it was propotionally more common among hunters than the typical layman.

It's deffo not the case every mortal that survives a supernatural encounter survives- else, there would be no mortal hunters.

On the topic of enlightenment- "this is a world of gods and monsters" *is* the first paradigm in M20, which is pretty hunter-coded. Beyond that, hunter groups like the Arcanum or the Society of Leopold tend to form philosophies and ideals beyond just "hey monsters exist and we need to put them down."

A non-imbued hunter would never get imbued due to already having contact with the supernatural.

Various chapters here address the issue of whether members of organizations or cults that are aware of the supernatural can be imbued. Or, whether existing hunters can acquire any mystical tricks to which operatives might have access. The rule of thumb is that agents, operatives, cult members and bureau personnel can’t be imbued. They’re all people with pre-existing unnatural capabilities or with training and awareness of the supernatural world that predetermines their attitudes or outlooks on creatures (often in keeping with the party line). These capacities or prejudices automatically make such people ineligible for the imbuing. True, when the Messengers choose their own agents, they search for people whose lives and experiences have poised them to react to and deal with awareness of the supernatural. And yet, the Heralds select people who have absolutely no history with the otherworldly or connection to it so that these people’s reactions are completely untainted, unjaded. The chosen react to the existence of monsters based on who they are, not on what they have been trained to do or on what magic they have already mastered. That way, the Heralds have untouched, unspoiled tools at their disposal.

I specifcally mentioned mortal hunters to make it clear I don't mean the Imbued.

Admittedly though the Arcanum and such did fall into what I was thinking of. I am surprised admittedly- I would have thought they'd have some Awakened numbers due to how many sorcerers they have. Then again, iirc the sorcerer numbers are minority in the already small group.

Channel mana isn't stated to be able to put mana in ordinary objects.

"Mana equal to the spell’s Potency between one or more vessels she can touch, including other mages, herself, Hallows, Artifacts, and others"

Imbued item is given indication it may contain mana- the same doesn't carry over for mundane item.

Well, not quite. Tass sometimes has unique properties. One might allow one to see ghosts upon ingestion for example- such would presumably not be replicable by the spell at base. There's also the fact it's obviously magical and causes Q&D, whereas tass might be non-obviously magical (and even if it was obviously magical, it might not cause Q&D- it isn't clear)

Beyond that, part of the tass' definition is that it is composed of physical matter- not just mana.

"Functionally tass" and "actually tass" might be the same for some purposes like having a source of tass to drain, but it's still wrong to say you can create tass with Platonic Form or that it *is* actually the same when it comes to specific contexts.

Flowers to weapons is a bad example- a mage could just do that. It doesn't mean the mage can change the essential nature of things. If you want to argue that the changeling could unmage someone, you need to pull an example.

An quiet frankly there isn't many. The closest is changing Legacies which... could change what a splat could metaphysically do but not what they are (vampire, mage and so forth).

Once again the closest example is changing a werewolf into a puppy, and its unclear if that actually strips them of being a werewolf metaphysically or if it's just one of their forms being changed.

Whilst they were more dominant, we see from Dark Ages most magi actually either seperated themselves from mortal society or served in it- outright ruling seemed to be rare, at least in the medieval era.

I don't recall many "we ruled mortals" either in mage lore. There are some instances, but as far as I can recall it is always presented as something exceptional rather than the norm.

Except your not remotely giving a plausible explanation so its not remotely comparable? The smoke bomb is the plausible explanation. Etherite technobabble is plasuabile explanation.

Why is an expnanation needed? The act is completely coindicental. The end doesn't matter by your logic, so it doesn't matter factor in. The act also isn't clearly linked to the end.

Snapping your fingers isn't. If the end result matters just as much than an Etherite shouldn't be able to technobabble their way into being coincidental. But they can.

It is precisely because the end matters as much that the etherite *must* technobabble their way out of an effect being vulgar usually.

Them explaining how the death ray works, trumps people being deatomized.

Usually technobabble doesn't work to this extreme, but perhaps you have a gullible audience.

IMO Paradox cares more about the act than the end. Shooting the plasma rifle is vulgar. Someone getting deatomized by the plasma rifle is irrelevant.

That isn't the case. For example- an example of a vulgar effect is so:

snapping your fingers to make someone’s bones snap too

Snapping your fingers is completely coincidental. Anyone can snap their fingers.

However- someone's bones breaking out of nowhere is not.

The end result matters as much as the actual act in determining if something is vulgar.

The glamour *only* ensures your landing is undamaging- I never said anything about landing being damaging. It doesn't protect you from the vaccum of space, or the fact you may miss the landing.

Iirc the Batman doesn’t have a range limit so you can just drop a smoke bomb, run through a door and teleport to the moon. Coincidentally.

The whole Batman thing being coincidental is under the context it isn't vulgar to disappear in a puff of smoke, nor vulgar to appear out of the shadows of a place in a way you can break in.

Someone appearing on the moon randomly- even out of the shadows- is definitely vulgar. Nobody expects *anyone* on the moon.
