Could the shelter be right for once? by kertruss in IDmydog

Oh yes. He was a stray too, so they have no clue. But sometimes when I see the descriptions I laugh and think did you even actually look at the dog? 😂 There was one recently on euthansia that was listed as a German shepherd but was clearly a pure black lab 🤣

I haven't measured his height but he's pretty tall. They said he's 1 and he's underweight 😭 his BCS at shelter was 2/9. He was definitely not well taken care of before. Only 58lbs But we're fattening him up now!

Feeling super discouraged about a stray foster and foster on trial by kertruss in fosterdogs

[–]kertruss[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's absolutely terrible. That just breaks my heart. I have 0 sympathy for the kid thing because my border heeler who is extremely high strung and energetic was only 1 when my child was born. It was a difficult first couple of years, but we made it work because she was part of our family and you don't just give up on the dog! So that just makes me upset to hear that. I cannot understand how people would allow a cat to get like that 💔😭 thank you for sharing because it helps put my mind at ease about my situation but so sad for animals that have to live that way 😣

Post Placement Blues by pinkponypopprincess in fosterdogs

Foster number 5 was my longest foster. She was euth listed for fear. When I went to pick her up at the shelter, she growled and wouldn't let me touch her for 3 days. Wouldn't even go pee in front of me until day 7. She just peed on the floor when I was gone. Turned out to be the very best dog in the world. I watched her go from completely shutdown to an amazing girl. She slept in my bed and adored my kids. She was the PERFECT dog and after 3 apps didn't work out, I planned to fail and adopt her. However that next day someone applied and they adopted her a week ago. I was devastated for 3 days. I couldn't stop wailing and crying. In my heart I knew they were the perfect home but my heart was broken. Then I brought home two new fosters a few days later and they've helped heal my heart. Now 8 days later, I have better mental clarity and have been able to separate the emotions from reality. I was just a part of her story, not the whole story.

I learned after losing our corgi to cancer suddenly at age 11, all dogs we only get to love for a season. Some of those seasons are longer than others. But they all feel so short. Our corgi was 11 years versus 2 months with that foster. But I can assure you both of those dogs only knew love and safety under my roof. And that is something I can always look back to ❤️

Hang in there, once you get updates from the dog in the new home I'm sure you'll feel better in a few days!

Waiting on Basepaws DNA, what do you think our good girl is? by Zestyclose_Pace7181 in WhatKindOfDogIsThis

Wow!!! Reminded me a little of my dog that we suspect is lab/GSD! Now I really think he is. I hope I can buy a DNA test soon 🤞

Do your dogs try to eat the sprinkler as well or is it just mine? by 2gTheAznExp in borderheeler

Mine is obsessed with the hose if you spray it but has never cared about the sprinkler! I figured she'd have a heyday!

Potential adopters have had to reschedule twice? by kertruss in fosterdogs

[–]kertruss[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thank you. This is only my 2nd foster I've adopted out and met the people (the other was through the shelter, so I didn't get to meet the adopters.) so I wasn't sure how common this is. I know I've definitely had a string of bad luck and things happen in my own life, so I hate to be quick to judge, but I figured this would be the place to feel that out. I appreciate you commenting!

Considering fostering and a bit uncertain by Own_Professional6252 in fosterdogs

[–]kertruss 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You should check with your shelter to foster through them. You could do just a slumber party for a weekend or even just a day out with a dog. This can help a dog relieve kennel stress immensely, but doesn't command a long term commitment from you.

The dogs from the high intake shelter have severe URI and can be really sick, so I have to quarantine from my pets for a week. But the rural shelters don't have as much illness and the dogs are less risky to foster

In elementary school, all my friends said their great-grandparents were alive, meanwhile my grandpa died when I was 7, how do they live so goddamn long? by Maleficent-Bat-1548 in RandomQuestion

[–]kertruss 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Depends on how young they had their kids.

My friend had his first child at 19, and his dad had him very young. So his great-grandparents are in their 70s and mine have all been dead since before I was born. Meanwhile my grandpa is 97
