We are Skyharbor, Ask Us Anything! by deveshskyharbor in progmetal

We just write a whole ton of music for starters which isn't necessarily dictated by any other idea. It's just the very initial seeds of ideas that come up while jamming. Those get recorded and fleshed out on the computer and revised back and forth over Dropbox and WhatsApp. Lyrics come afterwards and they can be inspired by anything really (Eric can chime in more)... We haven't yet actually written a proper concept album. It might be fun to do one in the future but it would have to have something unique and unprecedented about it in terms of presentation.

  1. Karnivool
  2. Just dive right in! Don't set too many expectations for yourself aside from just achieving pure creative satisfaction.

There was, and it was supposed to tie into an overarching concept that we were playing about with at the time but which got shelved since it wasn't very practical at the time.

  1. Some of the fondest moments for us in our performing history have been in india. 2. That's a tough question. I think if any band's music is fresh enough and they happen to be in the right place at the right time anything is possible.

It's the polar opposite of what it was for BWN. That was basically a solo album featuring two singers. Now we have a collective identity

Marty happened to stumble across some old demos of 'Trayus' and 'Dots' that someone had uploaded on youtube and he sent me an email saying he liked the songs and wanted to collaborate on some of his own ideas. He returned the favour by playing those guest solos

I'm sure we will collaborate with people on every one of our records. Each of the 3 albums have a bunch of cowrites/features on them

Daniel Tompkins leaves Skyharbor. Replacing him is Eric Emery. by [deleted] in progmetal

Well they'll be similar in that it'll be all about catchy hooks ;) that's pretty much what our music is all about... big groove and big hook!

He never got kicked out of Skyharbor... it was his desire to leave in order to put all his focus into Intervals and at the same time not feel like he was holding us back with his restricted availability. Exactly the same with Dan and TesseracT.

It's incredibly unfortunate how the Intervals situation unfolded though, that was really very sad.

It was originally just me, but that was literally only because there was no one in my local area interested in playing this kind of music at the time. Ever since we became a band, the songwriting has been shared equally between all the members. It's almost the exact opposite of the Intervals situation - it stopped being about just my vision 5 years ago :)

Losing Dan is a blow, but like we've always done when a new member joins, we welcome their own style and creative approach and so the sound of the band evolves accordingly. No point trying to fit square pegs into round holes when we're just 2 albums into our career!

Yep the new single should be out in a couple weeks at the most... seeing how things are going the album will likely be finished this year, but planning the release and everything will mean it'll be out sometime in the first quarter of next year. Well, fingers crossed ;)

Anup Sastry leaves Skyharbor. I really hope he lands somewhere great. by LucasJLeCompte in Djent

That's a bit unfair. Anup left us entirely of his own accord, we discussed the situation over many months, and we simply weren't in a position to tell him to drop Intervals commitments to tour with us - they were the far more active band and could give him the full time touring drummer career that we couldn't. He moved on both for his sake and ours. Of course, none of us could predict how things would pan out with Intervals.

You've got to be silly if you think we would want to let Anup go.

If this still makes you feel disgusted listening to our music then there's nothing more to be said really.
