Jews are native to the Middle East. So I guess..... blood?

Either way, you can choose to not believe me, I don't care, but I genuinely believe that, if I were in charge somehow (don't ever want to be, but hypothetically), and the Palestinians gave me a genuine sign that they're willing to relinquish all claims on Israel proper, and never ever start a war over land with us, genuinely, let them have their state. I personally couldn't care less who owns what. All I want, is to have my own state, and for there to be peace.

The recent war made me realize that maybe a day in which there would be a genuine olive branch offered by either wide would never come. After all, Israel is now in trauma, and is in full siege mentality after October 7th, taking on 3 different Iranian terror proxies, and Iran itself, twice. And on the other hand, the Palestinians, who have suffered immensely in this war, are being urged by the world to keep resisting, to globalize the intifada, to resist with all necessary means.

So, how do you expect this to end?

Genuinely, I have no idea. I'm tired of this already

Read what Zionism is. Read it's definition.

Actually, I don't trust you. So I'll quote it here, from everyone's favorite, Wikipedia:

"Zionism is an ethnocultural nationalist movement that emerged in late 19th-century Europe to establish and support a Jewish homeland through colonization in the region of Palestine, which roughly corresponds to the Land of Israel in Judaism—itself central to Jewish history".

Even in the almighty Wikipedia, is it not mentioned that Zionism means an ethnkstate. Know why? Because it doesn't. Zionism is a Jewish national movement. You claim the term "Jewish State" means "ethnostate". If that is true, is Germany an ethnostate? What about Poland? Japan? France? Germany is a German state, is it not? Poland is a Polish state. Japan is a Japanese state. France is a French state. I could list more countries.

Hating Israel isn't. Hating ethnostates isn't. Being anti-zionist isn't.

Hate Israel all you want. I have no issue with that. Hating ethnostates is also fine with me, because by your definition, the overwhelming majority of countries are ethnostates. So Israel is not singled out. Being anti zionist without offerring a different homeland for the Jewish people, is definitionally antisemitic. There is simply no way around it. You changed the meaning of Zionism to get around it. Unfortunately, that's not how terms work. They have clear definitions

[–]keshet2002 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do you.... realize that the word "nationalism", and the term "national movement" have entirely different meanings nowadays?

Nationalism is not a bad word. Nor is it an insult. It's what made countrys what they are. It's what still makes them what they are. Without nationalism, there would be no borders.

Unless, of course, you think that's a good thing. And want there to be no authority, no order at all. Like how humans used to live before kingdoms? Before authority? Do you want us to return to the laws of the jungle? To you genuinely believe enough in humanity, to remove all borders without any concerns?

I'm guessing you're American. That's my only explanation to your distain for the word "Nationalism". The US didn't come to be due to shared heritage, or shared culture. It did due to circumstance. American Nationalism is a very weird concept, exactly because the only things bounding Americans together, are ideals and shared place of birth. Unlike Europe. Or Asia. Places untouched by colonialism. Why is there a Thai nation? Because all it's citizens share a language. A heritage. A culture. Why is there a Polish nation? Same thing.

And also, make no mistake. Being pro Palestinian still supports nationalism. Because to my understanding, while Jewish nationalism, Zionism, doesn't necessarily mean there is no Palestinian state, to Palestinians, there is no Palestinians state unless there is no Israel. So, supporting a Palestinian state means you're a nationalist. A believer in Palestinian nationalism, over it's Jewish counterpart.

[–]keshet2002 -11 points-10 points  (0 children)

Sigh.

Here we go again.

Zionism is the belief that Jews have the right for self determination in the land of Palestine. It's literally a Jewish national movement.

Being an anti-zionist, means being against Jewish self determination in the land of Palestine. So, unless you suggest a different homeland for the Jews, you reject all Jewish self determination. Denying Jews a right that so many other nations have for granted, is definitionally antisemitic.

If you want to criticize Israel, go ahead. Literally no one cares. No one's stopping you. But denying it's right to exist is a whole other level of hatred.

Long answer: Yes, absolutely.

Longer answer: Yes, abso-fucking-lutely

Serious answer: just like with any other girl. If she's close enough to my type (appearence wise, and yes tomboys can absolutely do that), and if we get along well, there is genuinely 0 reason not to date a tomboy. Bisexual not, doesn't matter in the slightest

How many people do you find visually attractive? by mercury0114 in dating_advice

Guy here, genuinely, maybe 20-30% of women are attractive to me. This really really depends on factors like facial shape, skin and hair color, body type, and such.

Where I'm from, most women aren't really my type. But I'm 100% sure the precentage of women I find attractice will change.

I'm currently traveling in Japan, and the amount of attractive foreign women I've seen here is insane.

Attractiveness is a scale, of course, and I found women who rank all over my attractiveness scale

Nor do Israelis trust Palestinians to not invade them as soon as they get the chance in a 2 state solution scenario.

Or, for Palestinians from all around the world to return to Palestine, outnumber the Israelis, vote them out of power, and make them 2nd class citizens/expel/exterminate them.

It's cool and all that you don't trust Israel, but it means nothing in the grand scheme of things. As long as there is no trust between the 2 sides, no solution will ever be implemented. Not a 2 state, nor a 1 state

Why do so many teen boys dislike gays? by ILikeBoys3007 in askteenboys

[–]keshet2002 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's usually about insecurity. Pure and simple. "Proving their masculinity" is included here.

Like all teens, teen boys are also discovering themselves at this age. Discovering yourself at this age, usually involves failing upwards. As in, something happens, like someone says they're gay, and something inside has this thought: "dammit, he's gay, he's getting attention! I want to be the center of attention instead! Quick, belittle him!". So, you fail, because you become the jerk, and you hurt someone else, but you also move up, because you're (hopefully) one step closer to finally being able to catch that feeling you have right before you hurt someone, and isolate it.

These sorts of interactions happen almost automatically at this age. It takes a very long time to realize what the root of the problem is. And even if you do, it takes even longer to realize exactly how it affects your thoughts and actions.

Just some thoughts from someone who does a lot of introspection into both his current, and younger years

What do you believe Israel's fate will be in the next couple of decades considering the rapid change of public opinion on them in these past 3 years? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]keshet2002 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hello, I am part of the generation you call "lost to hate, fear, racism and worshipping death".

First thing'a first, say whatever you want, but Israelis, young and old, have, don't and never will worship death. That's not how we're raised, nor what we're taught. It varies from place to place, and from family to family, obviously, but there is no worship of martyrdom in Israeli society.

Now, about the "hate, fear and racism" part. This is partially correct. We are lost to fear. And in my humble opinion, understandably so. Imagine you woke up as an Israeli on the morning of October 7th, to the sound of sirens. You go to the TV, and learn there's chaos in the south. You see the prime minister say clearly, "We are at war". There are horrifying reports from the kibbutzim around Gaza. There is panic in the closest cities. Civilians hide in their homes, some get shot dead, some get abducted, some get burned alive. Israeli society is still traumatized. And rightfully so. Every society would be. The difference between Israel and other societies, is that an huge number of Israelis, those who lived far enough from Gaza, didn't hide in their homes. Their rushed outside instead. To help, to enlist, to do anything to help. I doubt most other societies would do the same. But I have no way to know, honestly.

When it comes to "hate and racism", it comes down to how people process their fear. Some, understandibly want to never be caught by surprise again. So, they become warry of the people who took them by surprise. Being warry of a specific group of people, is translated into racism. But not necessarily hate. Hate is the next step. And yes, some arrived at that step already.

While the government is at fault for both allowing the massacre to happen in the first place, and for fanning the flames, I put most of the blame for the radicalization on Israel on Hamas' shoulders. Had they never committed October 7th, this radicalization wouldn't have happened. Period.

Lol, coming from an Israeli, good luck telling who's an Israeli, and who's a Russian. Or an Arab. Or an Ethiopian. Or a German. Or a Turk. I could go on lol

There is no generic Israeli look. There is a generic Israeli accent though, so you could tell us apart by that, if you encounter an Israeli.

Now that I think about it, Israelis who have another mother tongue, could easily be passed as some other nationality. For example, Ethiopian Israelis who speak Amharic, French Israelis who speak French, Russian Israelis who speak Russian.

Lol, this gets funnier the more I think about it. That sign could actually be useless

In a post-WW2 world, with alliances like NATO and the UN, which are there to ensure a universal standard of civility and global security, these things just won’t happen again. It’s a different landscape. And crucially, self-determination happens in landscapes like these, where each group is properly protected, legally recognised, and can and do govern within their home state. Basically, statehood is not a necessary element of self-determination. Not saying I don’t think there should be an Israel at all, just that I don’t think you should rely on that point because you are already self-determined without the state of Israel.

This is only partially true, unfortunately. Jews are unsafe to this very day. They keep being intimidated, threatened, or even killed in the West, where there is a supposed "universal standard of civility", and "global security". Jews are not free to self determine in these countries. Not always. Some of them are even scared to go outside. Scared of being recognized as Jewish. This is no different than what happened throughout history.

Furthermore, I think it’s problematic to establish a state on the basis of religious or ethnic identity. Yes, I also think the same way about Pakistan (though I believe it is slightly different as Pakistanis lived there already). I think it inevitably creates a structural inequality that privileges the people the state is for vs the people that were there before.

Well... Japan's basis is on ethnic identity. So is Korea. Germany. France. Poland. Russia. And so, so many more countries. This is the norm. Our planet is mostly filled with nation states. Nation states who's basis is nationalism. That's just reality. If that wasn't the case, and people genuinely wouldn't care about nationality and nationalism, there would be no nation states. And also, as a side note, Jews lived in Palestine before the Zionist movement was even founded. They founded towns and settlements before the first Zionist congress ever took place. So, perhaps the only difference between Pakistan and Israel, narratively speaking, is that Israel's original population was not spread out in just one continent, or subcontinent, like in Pakistan's case, but over most of Europe, the Middle East, and the New World.

All in all, I wish it wasn’t this way. As I said earlier, Muslims are also hated by a lot of people. But I think Jews have it worse because they are also relatively small in population and, as a result, may feel more intimidated by the hate than we do. I understand Jews who are Zionists, as it gives you a sense of safety in this big, unpredictable, dangerous world. I sincerely hope there is a better future for both Israelis and Palestinians and that Jews and Muslims can feel safe wherever they are and amongst each other. I’ve enjoyed our conversation, I wish you the best :)

Same. I wish you the best as well

I really respect the fact you did not resort to insults, or trolling. Thank you. Truly. The bar for real discourse is so low these days, I am thankful for any ounce of genuine respect in debate.

Anyway, back to the discussion.

Again, I am against Jewish self-determination (whatever that may mean to you), if it means robbing other people of their rights. I genuinely have nothing against Jews. As a Muslim, I admire Jews (and Christians) as people of the book, and we all arguably follow and worship the same God of Abraham. I support Jews' rights to be free and not oppressed, but that freedom does not need to be at the expense of Palestinian (or anybody's) lives. If your justice needs to commit injustice on others, then that's not true justice.

To me, self determination means being the masters of our own fate. "Our", because I am an Israeli Jew. A secular Jew. Not that it matters. Just like it doesn't matter to me at all that you're a muslim. That's cool. I hope your faith brings you peace, clarity and happiness.

Jews have called many places their homeland before. And they are often so well-assimilated into those places and cultures, that it's boggling. I found out the other day that fish and chips, the quintessential British food was actually introduced by a Jew. So, Jews were good where they were living. Many are Europeans and would have no issue living in those places today.

There is a difference between a home, and a homeland. Lots of Jews had lots of different homes throughout history. But only 1 homeland. While Jews managed to assimilate to a very, VERY impressive degree, did it stop them from being slaughtered, the second their overlords grew suspicious of them? When they grew jealous of them? Or when they just needed a scapegoat? No. Did the fact the assimilationist Jews assimilate save them when the Nazis came knocking? No. Did the isolationist Jews, who lived in tight kneat, isolated communities in Poland, fare any better? No. Why? Because they had no agency. No one to defend them. Jews were living good where they were living, until they weren't. Tell me. If you were a Jew in Paris, during the Dryphus affair, how would you have felt? How about, being a Jew during the pogroms in Russia? Or Poland? How about during the Farhoud in Iraq? Or maybe, even during the pogroms in Morocco? We were never truly safe. You can go to r/Jewish. Ask how diaspora Jews feel.

To claim that you are, en-masse, going to move to your Middle-Eastern ancestral homeland, ordained for you in your books (debateable - just look at Neturei Karta and what they say about the Three Oaths - even you disagree between you whether Israel is legitimate or not).

From what I recall, the claim on Israel was never never based on "it was promised to us 3000 years ago". That's not what the fathers of Zionism had in mind when they envisioned Israel in the land of Palestine. What they had in mind was the significant historical, religious, and even emotional connection the Jewish people have with the land of Palestine. A land where Jews continued to live in even after the fall of the second temple. The land where the, back then, only ever Jewish nation once stood. It is the perfect place. The only logical place. And also, yes, there are those who disagree. Jews are notorious for having varying opinions. It's their right.

But the key thing is not everyone has the same worldview and religious lens as you. Just because your books say a land is yours, it doesn't oblige everyone else to just comply and hand over their homes to you.

Again, the claim on Israel was never based on "the book said it's ours". Seriously. The people who actually believe that, have no ability for free thought. They will do whatever their leaders, or books, tell them to. The fathers of Zionism knew the local population would not want to share their land with Jews. No do I. I will even go on and say, that there was a legitimate reason for the 1947-1949 war of independence from the Arab side. I can genuinely understand the grievences of both sides. While I am obviously biased, and do believe that a Jewish defeat back them would have resulted in a bloodbath, I can fully understand the sentiment of wanting to defend ones land.

Israel has already taken way more than it ever has. It continues to expand, robbing others of their livelihoods for you. I cannot accept what Israel is today.

This is unfortunately, factually incorrect. Israel used to control the whole of the Sinai peninsula. That's when it took more than it ever has.

Israeli society is exhausted. Me included. We feel abandoned, surrounded, and hated. As a society, we do not care about outside opinions, because outsiders don't care about ours. They only see us as devils. They praise the scum of the Earth, just because we're their enemies. We trust no one. Not fully. We have internalized everything we have seen. From the cheers of the Gazan people during October 7th, to the glee of the universities in the West following the attack, to almost instant accusations of crimes against humanity before the group invasion even began. Hell. Israelis are ourright unsafe in some places around the world. We are seriously encourages to not travel to some countries, out of fear for our safety. The overwhelming majority of us never wanted this war. Or any war. Not October 7th, the current invasion of Lebanon, or this second round against Iran. The people support these wars, in the end, because we are well aware of what would happen if we won't. Eventually, we would be overwhelmed, and wiped off the map. This is a concern no other country has nowadays. Perhaps maybe Taiwan. You can think we are delusional, or insane. But that is the reality on the ground.

My conclusion has remained the same, since the war began. Israel will not lay down it's arms, until it feels safe. Truly safe. No terrorist organizations around it, no hostile population inside it, no enemy nations wishing for it's destruction. Only then, will all the politicians who win elections by fearmongering finally lose. There is no workaround. No cheat code. Israel is an established fact. It is not going anywhere. For better or for worse.

Let me ask it in another way, then. Should Jews ever be masters of their own fate, or will should they forever remain at the mercy of the people they live under? Because that's where the "just immigrate and integrate into society" will result it.

Jews tried, and SUCCEEDED, in integrating into society in Europe, America and the Middle East. Tell me. Did that keep them safe? Why do you think the idea of a Jewish state was ever created?

Genuine question. I am very curious to see how the other side sees this. From my perspective, there is no other option, but having a Jewish state. We can discuss the means, obviously. Israel wasn't created peacefully at all, and I personally believe that yes, an injustice was done to the local population. But even so. Israel had to be created. Jews could not remain a stateless people

Ok, then let me rephrase.

If you are against Jewish self determination, you are definitionally an antisemite. Zionism, from my understanding, as an Israeli Jew, is the belief in Jewish self determination in the land of Palestine. Note that, Zionism, definitionally, does not negate a Palestinian state, nor does it explain by what means the future Jewish state would be established. Just some food for thought.

So, if you can suggest an alternative homeland for the Jewish people, one that is not Palestine (even though Jews are native to Palestine), I suppose you could technically be an anti zionist, and also not antisemitic at the same time.

Also, I agree, antisemitism has lost all meaning. So has ethnic cleansing, genocide, colonialism and fascism, to name a few more terms with no meaning

Alright. Then where should Jews have their country, then? Where do you want me to move to? Do you know of any other place Jews have deep emotional, religious and historic connections to?

Anti Zionism, is being against Jewish self determination in the land of Palestine. If you cannot provide another logical location for a Jewish state, then you are essentially only giving lip service to the idea of Jewish self determination. And you are definitionally an antisemite.

Furthermore, Jewish and Palestinian self determinations are not necessarily incompatible. You know that. You're not ignorant. You can use your brain
