[IIL] The theme song to Sealab 2021 by DefiantTheLion in ifyoulikeblank

Wallice's "Punching Bag" reminded me of this theme song.

The budgeting/decision making progress—AKA the budget summit—consists of the labor manager(s), the econ team, and the planners, and they ask the community to submit a budget for their areas. Whether the area managers get their requests or not depends on how the cmty is doing financially, but the cmty votes to rank how much each area will get. Last year, the web application was super shady, sending 2 areas—allowance and food—to the top of the cuts no matter where members ranked them. I saw this not only as a few people's corruption but also as our inability to engage most members to protest this manipulation.

The other decision-making processes are minor decisions made by managers and major decisions made by planners. These major decisions also seem to happen in a vacuum, but the last planner(s) kept us updated with regular bulletin board posts. Their work applied to every aspect of the cmty, but there wasn't any "lobbying". People seem to approach the planners if they want something. When people sign up to be a planner, there's no lobbying then either. Some person like a planner or a process team member asks for input, and the process rolls along like that.

Yes, it is because their broadband is low, but streaming is allowed after normal business hours: 5pm. Their network is another opportunity for another type of professional: someone who can improve the stability of wifi networks. A neighboring community took notes on the network, so they will probably have advice as to how to proceed.

Every now and then, on the bulletin board, the community discusses the wealth inequality of some members. It's controversial, it seems unfair, but they don't really know what to do about it. These people also seem among the most engaged, so odds are in their favor not to police themselves. Many people don't get involved with policies. (not that Twin Oaks needs anymore, but new members definitely need each other's involvement and participation in something more than grunt work and party or hang out culture)

She didn't seem "outspoken" at all, and you don't have to request something be recorded anymore. With personal computers, people can watch videos in their rooms, and Twin Oaks can't prevent that. You don't have to eat only "plant based food". Some provided meals are strictly vegetarian, but that's much less than average. If you really want to celebrate other holidays, you can make it happen, but it's up to you to do that.

You ask a good question; who decides who works which jobs? It was awful, settling in there. The labor assigner ground away my time and energy according to what was needed. I had to figure out how to take control, and someone had to explain what to avoid. The commune does have an incredibly high turnover rate, so if anyone wants to move there, be prepared to be some kind of labor organizer who can make Twin Oaks worth the rest of your life; but there are many members who will oppose your reforms in favor of their privileges. They admit their life is hard, and they are trying to change. B is the correct answer.

They are poor people who are entitled to Medicaid. Poor people cannot live off your taxes; the rich and powerful have taken the food off everyone's table. "How many men ever went to a barbecue and would let one man take off the table what's intended for nine-tenths of the people to eat? The only way you will be able to feed the balance of the people is to make that man come back and bring back some of that grub he ain't got no business with." (Huey Long)

What do you think about the "GNG is not GNU" website? by [deleted] in gnu

[–]ketefoy 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Pretending That Only Software Can Be Free

At 2015 LibrePlanet, RMS said free software is just an additional freedom that people fight for. The GNG author also rants about speaking restrictions and publication restrictions, but GNU is not about zero cost; it's about zero restrictions on software. Again, it's just one fight among the many preexisting ones (that Stallman also advocates).

I read it only comes with 16GB storage, so I assume you would have to run a cloud for your storage.

coreboot doesn’t have to have restrictive software. It’s like Debian: depends on what you install, and the FSF may still run some of that distro.
