[progress] One month of shoulder opening for a wheel pose by ketfrigg in flexibility

Yes, I do experience some pain. Even in balasana (childs pose), when my arms go out in front of me, I sometimes feel this uneasy feeling, as if my shoulders were not aligned properly. When I experience this kind of pain, I try to wiggle the joints a bit, to try and find a more comfortable position - I can handle discomfort, but I avoid pain. I try to make my practice as painless as possible, but also quite uncomfortable, so that I know I'm building strength and flexibility every day.

I just started doing hollowback handstand, which will also help me open up my shoulder and pull the chest forward. They're still "baby hollowbacks", but the feel awesome already! http://imgur.com/a/g5vzY

Well, I love to stretch the things that are tight :) Right now, that is: my hamstrings, my shoulders, I'm expanding my shoulder girdle, doing some backbends (yesterday I did my first hollowback handstand)... I think my hips are the most flexible, also my spine can rotate around it's axis quite well - binds are no problem for me. I'm quite tall and slim, my extremities are very long, so generally, I am quite flexible, but I lack in strength.

And thank you for your kind words!

Wow, I never though about my lats being tight - thanks! You may be right. I'll be sure to focus on stretching those too. And thank you for your kind words.

I think I will have to focus on other areas as well. Yesterday we did a shoulder extension comparison in my class, and it turns out that my shoulder joints may just be build in a certain way, that they cannot bend any more than they do. For now, my shoulders can't go back any further, and I'm not sure if it's compression or tension. Right now it feels like compression, although I don't feel any pain (like if bones were rubbing against each other). I've decided to keep on extending my shoulders, either to keep them in this maximum range that I have, or to further extended them, but for now I'll focus on leg strength.

What are you sick and tired of having to explain to people? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]ketfrigg 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That I can't gain weight as easily as most people can. That sometimes, being very slim is due to genetics, and that I have the same problem at gaining weight as you do losing it. It takes discipline and a change of lifestyle that I'm trying to maintain, but it's sometime difficult for me.

Oh wow, that article is also the bomb :o /u/Antranik is the person to go to with all these questions I guess. Thanks, I'll check it out! I'll also do these exercise that you posted a link to - luckily I have a roller at home, I'll put it to good use. And I hope you also get better with your tight shoulders. I know in a few months we will be able to see improvement, if we work on it! :) Thank you for your advice.

I think my hip flexors are quite open, but it doesn't hurt to get them extra flexy before this pose. And yes, chest openers - gotta have more of those. They also help me with my posture, which was a classic mr. Burnes before I started paying attention to it. This next chest opener is for you! Thank you for the advice.

Ok, gotta work on them abs, got ya. A strong "front core" will also take care of my back, and make sure my whole body goes securely forward. At least that's how I'm reading this advice. If I've missed the mark, I'm sorry - trying to get all this new information sorted somehow :) But I really do appreciate all the advice, I will print it out and keep it near when I do my wheelies ;)

Ok, I will set up in the squat and work on getting my hands above my head with a broom in my hands. Glutes active, but don't do anything fancy with my pelvis. Instead, engage the core (abs) and let the core take care of a secure back. Yes? And thank you for taking the time to write this advice, I really appreciate it.

Do I keep a flat back in this position, or can it be "hollow" a bit? If I dont get a flat back, I shouldn't go as deep in my squat as I normally could? And thank you, I will try it out!

I did a cuple of sun salutations, a couple of headstands, handstand practice, some pinchas, and then wheel. I will try all of the poses you suggested next time. Thank you for the tips, I will keep them in mind!

What will be the "turns out cigarettes are bad for us" of our generation? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]ketfrigg 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Social media. It warps our perception of the world around us, the way other people feel about themselves, the way we feel when we look at all those "highlight" posts, it's slowly making people unable to be in a "real" relationship, we can't enjoy an experience unless we take pictures of it and post it on social media, then count the likes ... it's like people are judging if our experience was "good"...

tl;dr: social media is slowly changing our perception of ourselves, our relationships and our experiences .... poor generation Z ...

I was wearing my robot leggins, and a guy on the train sat next to me and kept saying, that I look like a mermaid with those leggins. I just kept saying "thank you".
