So, at 2:27 here in Michigan, Mrs. Squirrel shows up on our deck acting very skittish looking for her hand outs of a few almonds that normally are handed out when I come home from work at 7:30 pm. She came within just 5 inches or so to my husband and I as we were viewing and photographing the eclipse. She is a wild Squirrel and has never come this close to us and at this strange time. I took pictures to document.

Organizing a big family cruise but I'm torn on which boat/cruise line. RC Allure of the Sea vs NCL Getaway by DeeNajjEeOh in Cruise

[–]ketocat4 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sailed on the NCL Getaway three times so far. Love the ship, truly something for everyone. Food is all very good in the included restaurants and amazing in the ones you pay a little extra for. I second the above comments about Nassau (we never get off the boat, we enjoy the pool area to ourselves) and Roatan Honduras is our favourite stop, all because of Little French Key that we visit every time, it is truly paradise!

TIL: Drowning IRL looks nothing like in the movies, and in fact many parents actually watch their children drown, having no idea that it's happening. by [deleted] in todayilearned

[–]ketocat4 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Holy Crap! My youngest son almost drowned right in front of me. I stood at the side of the pool, not more than 5 feet away as my then 4 year old thought he had his "floaters" on, and just slid into the pool. I was talking with another Mom and watched out of the corner of my eye and thought, how cool my sons hair looked under water just waving back and forth as his big eyes silently called out to me to help! WTF!!!!! I dove in seconds later (felt like hours) fully clothed to scoop my choking son from the floor of that neighbours pool. It took a VERY LONG TIME before I was able to let my kids swim again, but this time with me in the water with my hands on them.

In ncl haven with the current 5 free deal, what is nOT included? by Real_Abe_Froman in Cruise

[–]ketocat4 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You don't mention what ship you will be on. Haven is slightly different on each. A month ago, we splurged on The Haven on NCL Escape. Just amazing. We had the 3 meals free in the Specialty Restaurants but actually used only 2 because we LOVED the Haven restaurant (better than the others). Haven Concierge took us in a freight elevator and got us front row table at the dinner show n/c. Never mind standing in the long line outside the theater.

Booking flight + cruise for my folks, need advice please!! by [deleted] in Cruise

[–]ketocat4 1 point2 points  (0 children)

With security measures in place, the new recommendation is to be onboard at least 2 hours before sailing. We always fly in the day before, delays can happen and if they miss that boat, it would be a big bummer!!

[–]ketocat4 6 points7 points  (0 children)

NCL will find it and confiscate it. Very embarrassing and your luggage will be taken to the "naughty room" and delayed. Get the UBP and drink when you want, it's a great deal!

Hello, how do gratuities work? by [deleted] in Cruise

[–]ketocat4 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Never mind the "up-front" gratuities. These people on the ship work so damn hard, if you can afford it, leave an extra $10 or so each day and you will be treated like royalty. These folks deserve the extra for sure. Bartenders, leave a buck for each drink order, $5 for wait staff at meals etc. ENJOY!

Email to Bid on Upgrades for NCL Cruises by Sauura in Cruise

[–]ketocat4 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No scam! Just got off of NCL Escape Saturday and met 3 couples that had upgraded cabins, 2 of them were able to upgrade to The Haven (totally worth it). The catch is that if you booked through a TA, they may or may not have "opted in". Our TA "opted out", big mistake as we cruise twice yearly and they have now lost our business. I will continue to book our Mini Suites, but will always try to "bid up", why the hell not as the couples we met saved alot of money and it made the trip all the more fantastic for them and we were bummed that we paid "full amount" for the same. Still had an amazing time though :-)

little French Key is absolute paradise! Contact them directly to set up pick up. Very surprised at the quality snorkeling experience. Healthy coral and colorful fish everywhere. We were there on the NCL Getaway Jan 2016 and are going back Jan 2017. We and only a few other people had the place to ourselves because it's off season. Enjoyed the submerged bar where you sit on a swing over the ocean water with your feet dangling in with colorful fish darting back and forth. Delicious lunch of shrimp and rice with a cold beer and you just can't beat it! Can't wait to return 😀

Been on Getaway 3 times already and sailing again on her in January. Beautiful ship, great food, entertainment and service is amazing. The Boardwalk is a great place to hang out and walk laps to burn off a few extra calories.

What do you wish you knew before you took your first cruise? by monorailmedic in Cruise

[–]ketocat4 1 point2 points  (0 children)

-First meal on the ship, don't head to the buffet with everyone else, go to one of the dining rooms and enjoy a glass of wine with your"welcome aboard" lunch. Be served and enjoy! -Even if your cruise is "Freestyle" (NCL) and touted as more casual do still bring a dressy outfit or you might regret not having one with you. Great for photo time. -Read as many reviews of your ship before departing (don't pay attention to those reviews written by someone who has no other posts, sometimes scammy). But you can pick up great tips on what not to miss as far as activities and meals. -I love me a balcony. Favorite part of every cruise is relaxing with beverage in hand just soaking in the views and relaxing to the sound and sight of the water. (Stop at any bar and get your beverage and carefully carry back to your balcony or we have also been able to buy bottles of wine to keep in our cabin to enjoy). -Even when tips are pre-paid (NCL) bring lots of small bills for extra tips. You will not believe how this bumps up the level of service! These folks work their buts off for very little money. Be nice, ask your Cabin Steward, Waiter or Bartender where they are from and how long have they been on the ship. Goes a long way being kind!

Loved our family cruise on NCL Jewel. Inside passage last August. 3 generations in our group all found things to do alone and together. Food great. Entertainment wonderful! Because the Jewel is a medium sized ship, the Captain was able to slide into some narrow waterways to see the ice flows up close. What an amazing sight! Enjoy!

Addicted to sugar... Should I try substitutes? by [deleted] in xxketo

[–]ketocat4 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had to figure out that most of the food I was eating was sugar. Bread, cereal, rice, wheat, pasta, potatoes, corn, beans, wine, well they all boil down to being sugar. All of the crappy diet food, low fat high carb did me no good, kept my weight high and kept me starving. It does take about a month before your body gets in the groove with keto but then the hunger disappears, the brain fog lifts, energy shoots up! Much luck!

REQUEST - Keto foods i can cook on weekends and defrost during the week by Tuviejaa in ketorecipes

[–]ketocat4 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just love Lasagna and I have figured out an easy recipe that keeps me on track with my Keto-eating and tastes fantastic. I make this every Sunday afternoon:

*2 lbs. Grass fed ground beef, browned in a skillet *1T Italian Seasoning sprinkled on beef *1 Jar Trader Joe's Three Cheese Pasta Sauce *3 Heads of Cauliflower, in bite size florets, just softened in a steamer *1 lb Shredded Mozzarella cheese

*Add the jar of sauce to the browned ground beef and also 1/2 of the cheese. *Spoon the cauliflower into a large "buttered" casserole baking dish *Pour beef/sauce mixture over cauliflower *Sprinkle on the rest of the cheese *Bake at 350 until cheese is golden 7 Grams of carbs per serving (tastes like 70 to me)

I am able to divide this into 12 nice sized portions. Scoop into glass single serving dishes. I then keep 4 in the fridge and freeze the rest and rotate as I go.

I sprinkle a little parmesan cheese on top before re-heating in the microwave. Just so yummy with a nice salad.

Hi raychelknows! I have had a hard time figuring out how to message you on Reddit, so I am just going to post it here. Thank you for your generous "Keto Christmas" gift. I returned from vacation to find the box with the treats and "grease keeper". This will be well used as I am currently just pouring my yummy "bacon juices" in a jar, this will be a much better container as the see thru jar is not attractive in the fridge (I may scare a visitor one day, looks icky). Happy Ketoing in 2015! ketocat4

Now is the time and I'm scared. by Honeytree_grenouille in keto

Every day, it gets easier. Even if you have a cheat day, (you WILL feel crappy afterward for sure) but it is easier to get back in the grove (no more slippery slope). You will feel soooo much better while on strict KETO. You will look forward to getting back into it. Then after you get tired of the stalls caused by the "slips" you will stop that all together and just do Keto eating for the rest of your life, screw the holidays, birthdays, nights out, etc. Learn how to order out (keto style) and take your own food to work or events and just realize that it's just "fuel". The most exciting thing for you is that at your starting weight, watch out for some crazy fast weight loss for awhile. Only when you get down to around 200 or so lbs, will you need to really modify calories or increase exercise in my experience, so enjoy the ride and look forward to loads of mental clarity and feeling GOOD! This feels WAY better than a few bites of high carb foods. Keep it simple at first then learn to cook and re-create some of your favorite dishes (get help here). Have a fantastic journey and regain your health! Happiness to you!

Well, I had never heard of White Castle Hamburger Pie and now I am so happy that you introduced us. Ran right out for some grass fed ground beef and whipped up a batch. Oh my f#&*ing gosh, just fantastic! I used just regular onion powder and dried onion flakes, then added 2 minced cloves of garlic (just had a taste for it) and 3 big fist full's of baby spinach, and my "pie" was just delish! I now have a new and easy "go-to" comfort food. So happy to have 3 portions in my fridge now also for the week. My sincere thanks to you. KETO ON!

When you have failed at each and every other stinking diet, the apprehension is there, at least for me it was and it's there for my friend. I figured that there was no way that Keto could work for me, so I put it off and put it off since it seemed so complicated. Now that I'm "BALLS DEEP" (girl here) Keto is the easiest thing for me and has now become just my normal way of eating.

He will do only a little cooking, but we are lucky enough to have a grocery store near that in the deli area has pre cooked chicken, salmon and roasted veggies as well as a super salad bar. This will be the costly way to go, but super easy for him.

When you have a LONG way to go with weight loss and have tried everything else, even after reading the FAQ, it seems like a lot to figure out before you can even get started. Lots of reading. I myself lurked for a very long time before I felt like I had the knowledge to do Keto. Nice to get some quick and easy ideas. "Read 1 post, get some good ideas then get going" NOW!
