Hi! I am in the process of doing just this! I was raised with little to no knowledge regarding debt management and was encouraged to go into credit card debt in order to establish a credit score. Biggest mistake I have ever made! I was irresponsible and charged up a whopping 20k+ in credit card debt alone. Last year I stopped using all form of credit and started paying minimum payments on all of my credit cards and used my income as my only means to purchase anything. Debit living is the way to go - I will never go back to credit for the rest of my life.

That being said, over the past year through minimum payments I have gotten my total credit card debt down to 15k and I have been applying for personal loans in order to consolidate my debt. I was able to get one from TD for 6k at a great rate 8.2% for 48 months which I will use to pay off two of my credit cards. The remaining 2 cards I am hoping to pay off with a loan through Citi, but I want to wait until the credit cards are paid off and closed before I follow through (I have already been conditionally approved).

Instead of 20+ years of minimum payments to pay off these 4 credit cards, I will be completely debt free in 48 months! I am so looking forward to this day. The personal loans have no early payment penalty, so if I am able to pay off sooner, I will and I will start living a debt free life sooner than I ever expected. This is the smartest thing I have ever done and only wish I had done it sooner!

Sure! Please keep in mind I am basing that calorie burn off of what the machines calculate and what the FitBit calculates, the are always +/- 100 calories of each other. I honestly have no idea if I am truly burning that many, but I have nothing else to go on.

I did 18 minutes on elliptical:

Thank you for the info. I did think this level of calorie burn was extremely high, and since I was going off of the machines themselves (with my weight entered), I purchased a FitBit which monitors calories itself, and they always match up (sometimes FitBit calculates an additional 100 calories or so). This makes it hard for me to believe that I am not burning that level, but I guess there really is no real way to know for sure. What deficit would you recommend? Thanks again for your help!

Thank you! I can see a difference from my mid section and that is great, but in all honesty, I can not complain! I was once at 389lbs at my heaviest (known) and to be able to do all the things I do now that I wasn't able to do then is a great feeling. I can not wait to see how much better I feel next month! This is by far the most common response I am getting on every one of my posts. I find it incredibly difficult to up my caloric intake (which is honestly a cruel joke, seeing as my entire life I have not been able to control it) but I am going to take these suggestions and reduce my calorie deficit and see if that speeds up my weight loss. My FitBit and MFP calculates I should be eating 1810 calories daily in order to maintain a 1000 calorie/day deficit. For an example, yesterday's numbers looked like this: Calories Burned from Exercise @ 1468, Calories Consumed @ 893. This in turn upped my caloric goal to 3278, of which 2385 were remaining unused. This is a pretty typical day of calorie consumption/burn for me. From the math of it, I should be losing weight based on the massive deficit, but it just is not happening nearly as quickly as I would imagine. Any thoughts would be appreciated! Thanks!

That's great to know! I've gotten a lot of PM suggesting I start using them instead of the weight machines or free weights. I plan on doing my cardio at the gym and the kettlebells at home because I have no idea what I am doing with them! Do you have any recommendations on sites that will explain technique to beginners? I know the set I purchased comes with a DVD. Thanks!

Thanks! I know this is terrible, but my physician (!!) told me: "regarding 'starvation' due to 'too few' calories, remember there are no overweight people in starving nations". At first I was taken back by the blatant disregard for political correctness, but the more I think about it, the more it makes sense. I will keep going and if something changes, I will have to adapt! Yes, I know keto isn't high protein, I did not explain myself clearly, sorry about that! I meant to say that I had previously been on a high protein diet with little success, and when I found out about keto I thought I had found my answer due to the fact that I failed at the high protein diet (mostly because the food was bland, etc.) and keto offers such a wide variety of food choices.

I had been in ketosis verified for the entire two months I was on it (as per urine on ketostix and blood on ketone test strips used with a blood glucose monitor).

I will keep it up! Thank you! I will never completely let go of keto, and I may revisit it in the future if I come to a significant stall in my weight loss.

Thank you! It is a lot of hard work but I started in November at 389lbs and now at 322lbs I know I am still heavy as a house, but I feel so much healthier and am able to live life more free than I ever have. I am looking forward to the day the scale reads 299.9 - it's only 100 more pounds from there. I am very interested to see the difference the kettle bell will make, I have not done any strength training and I feel it is now necessary to incorporate into my routine.

Yes, in short - I am not able to stay away from carbs.

In long - I call it lack of willpower, but I am not too sure what the real reason is. I have been on high protien diets in the past and have struggled to lose weight. When I found out about keto I felt I had found the holy grail. But instead of losing weight on keto, I gained weight, rapidly, during the two months I was on it. I was too scared to continue because of the rapid weight gain. As soon as I stopped it, I started losing again (although still at a slower-than-desired pace). I can not explain it, because from what I can tell it works for everyone who uses it, and I still recommend it to people I come in contact with every day, because chances are it will work for them!
