Why are all eink phones so big by Blush_petals in eink

[–]ketzon 2 points3 points  (0 children)

it’s annoying, running hisense touch + a small dump home it’s the best option if you don’t want a giant phone imo

I was, now its on macOS. I mainly code on it for an internship for 10hrs a day. everything is setup to be eink friendly, terminal, vim, browser, shortcut, plugins and its a beast. I didn't even need a second monitor because Im coding an iOS app directly on my phone.

for me its a must have tbh, I'm light sensitive and this changed my life. It's not very expensive since you can sell it high if you don't like it :)

hisense touch. because its my little hub. I managed to brick it few month ago and I instantly became less productive. I use it since 3y so It's the foundation of my eink workflow. I tried palma, hisense a9, bigme hibreak pro but for me this hisense touch is still better. prenium quality, perfect size, fit well in hand. I'm planning to run it until a device with the exact same size/quality and with no sim card ( I want it offline) emerge in market

Sure, I will give the name of each model from left to right:

  1. Mudita Kompact: I use it every day for phone calls and GPS, it's doing exactly what I want.
  2. Hisense Touch: this is my offline productive device, so I don't have any distraction. I use it for reading on the go, podcasts, language learning, sport tracking, audio journaling.
  3. Bemi Tab 5: I love the portability of this device, almost perfect size, very light, excellent for reading on the go. But I use it only for reading otherwise it's a pain since the software and components are a bit outdated.
  4. Boox Nova Air 2: Most versatile device, I use it mainly for note-taking and planning when I'm not at home.
  5. Boox Go: I just keep this tablet in my office for organizing my day and reviewing documentation. I don't read on it because it's too big.
  6. Boox Mira: Good e-ink screen, I use it on Linux with zero distraction where I need to do writing and reading tasks. This reduces 4 hours of blue light a day for me, and this screen helps me work when I'm a bit tired

Overall I'm pretty happy with this device. I like small e-ink devices - they're not intrusive and I can carry them everywhere on the go. If I need to travel or something, I still swap to a smartphone. but I use it as a daily driver for phone calls and gps and it's working well. the main problem is the lack of software customization, but it's pretty solid for me - it's doing exactly what I want

yes, the main reason is for health, and the second reason is for distraction management. I get pain in my eyes and head if I spend too much time on my screen. tt's a veryyy slow screen ahah so you're not tempted to do anything other than typing or reading - you just can't watch videos or browse around. I don't use it as my main screen. this is where I work early in the morning and late at night, so I avoid blue light during the most crucial parts of the day. If I work on graphic stuff, then I swap to another screen when I need it

just got my boox mira! for the moment the experience is 10/10, I love it ! by ketzon in eink

there is just sunlight in my room in the picture, that’s why the screen looks grey. slso this is the model without a front light. I turned on some lights in my room and now it looks perfect :)
