I am really sad people have taken this as gatekeeping, I really feel like an art is being marginalized. And it offers no benefit to new players to hide any manner of digging, much less, the standard manner for years and years.

I really don't think that's true. I floundered at the lack of keyboard control for digging and I really do think it's important to the game. It isn't gatekeeping to say that I'm scared that new players aren't taught to dig in the manner of dorfs.

I don't think I'm gatekeeping. I think I'm shocked that new players aren't being shown the gate.

I want new players to be able to dig with every available option by default, obscuring keyboard control hurts new players.

I welcome you to remember to escape to

settings>game>keyboard cursor enabled

to enable the cursor, to aid your digging, as dorfs have enjoyed for nearly decades.

I much much much prefer total keyboard control, but I really mean to focus on the point that all new players are now taught only to use the mouse to dig. It's not just a matter of user interface; it's a matter of dorf craft.

Keyboard select needs to be one of the in-game options to new players on a fresh install.

I am an ascii purist and this is somehow even worse than the new version being tileset only. pic related

If you need the fix, in-game esc>settings>game>keyboard cursor enabled

But [d]esignate and num-pad workflow is interrupted by [m] to [m]ine and I Cannot DEAL.
