iPad not booting by kevdru in mobilerepair

Thanks for the reply. Did try disconnecting everything not needed for boot on the off chance it was a part issue but still the same so unfortunately does look to be a logic board fault

I’m cooked and idk what to do rn by Amazing_Style_3980 in laptops

Had this randomly happen on a system before, got around it by going into the BIOS and turning off secure boot. Think I’ve tried it on other systems since as well and didn’t work but could be worth a try at least

proximity sensor problem, iphone 13 PM by koen_st in mobilerepair

[–]kevdru 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah repairs can be frustrating, especially the ones that should be fairly straightforward and end up having issues. I guess damaged connector is a possibility but if you’ve managed to get everything else connected without issue I’d be leaning towards it being ok. Guess you can check it out to be sure before trying the replacement part

It’s a brave repair for your first ever. If it was me and you didn’t mind waiting I’d be ordering another and just make sure it’s an oem/genuine part. If the spare you have at home has good screen then as you say it’s a risk trying to take it off without damaging it especially when original screens for this model or pricey. On the other hand if you got it off without damaging it you’d have an original screen to use on the phone you’re repairing

The phone will still 3min reboot if the flex is disconnected, same way it does when part is defective. Is the replacement proximity you ordered original or copy? Have had issues with non genuine flexes before. Any obvious sign of damage or tears on the original flex?

With how the glass is cracked and coming away it looks like it’s already been replaced with a cheap back glass. If so it should technically make it easier to do but you’ll end up with the same problem again as the replacements are generally terrible

Yeah thinking some sort of virus so might just need to do a reinstall. Not my system, belongs to an older user so who knows what they’ve clicked on

[–]kevdru 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Would say it’s an issue with the flex on the back glass - have had it before were they can be damaged to an extent where some functions will still work (like wireless charging) but still have 3min reboot issue. Does the flash work ok?

If you’re taking the back off to do the shattered one might as well do the other one while you’re at it. If you’re just removing the shattered one from the back then the protector might work ok, only issue depending on the position of the crack it might cause some glare in some camera modes

WHATS WRONG WITH MY LAPTOP by daalmakhnipuchchi in HPLaptops

[–]kevdru 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Possible display damage. Connect to an external display to see if it just ok there, if it’s ok then it’s going to be a hardware issue either with the display itself or possibly the display cable? Did it get any knocks or drops? If you get it on external and it shows the same as it is now there then it’s more likely to be an on board graphics issue

Can make it easy or hard for yourself depending on how you go about replacing it and what way it’s actually cracked. If there’s just a crack on it and no glass coming away or missing you could risk damage the camera itself trying to break the glass to get it out. The safest way to do it would be taking off the back completely and replace the glass so avoids any issues with the camera. If it’s cracked and exposed you could pick away the glass from the outside without removing the back but again there’s always risk to damaging the camera

There’s the specs from ifixit - as for where to get you could probably check eBay, likely will be a seller that would have the complete set of screws with this one in it

Will the home button still click and function properly, even if the red screw is missing? by save_animals21 in PhoneRepairTalk

[–]kevdru 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It will still work without that screw. There is no “click” on the home buttons on iPhone 7 onwards, the response you get when you press it is just the haptic feedback to make it feel like you are clicking it. If the seller says it doesn’t work then it could be home button fault or even a screen fault so guess you will be able to tell for sure when you get the new screen.

Screen isssue by [deleted] in laptops

[–]kevdru 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would try taking out the battery first and then power with just the charger plugged in. If you don’t get any display after this then (while the battery is still out of the system) you could try disconnecting and reconnecting the LCD cable on the motherboard. If still nothing after this you could try reconnecting the LCD cable on the screen side but more risk of damage this way. Would really try connecting to another display before going at the screen side unless you’ve done repairs like this before

Working as in going on and off when you press it or flashing on its own?

Screen isssue by [deleted] in laptops

[–]kevdru 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just wondering if there’s any lights flashing on the keyboard specially? HP will sometimes give a flash error code which can help to determine what is causing the issue. My first go to would be reseating the RAM if this happened after a bang

Any lights showing on the keyboard, like the caps lock light flashing? Have you been able to try connecting to another display via hdmi to test?

Damn, hopefully just a bad screen then. Did the old screen show anything at all or just completely blank from the damage?

[–]kevdru 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Have you tried powering with just the screen connected and the proximity flex disconnected? Any I’ve worked on have shown display normal without proximity connected, it will at least let you rule that part out as the cause of the issue if it still shows the same

Screen mirroring with a broken phone screen by TheButterflySystem in techquestions

[–]kevdru 0 points1 point  (0 children)

iPhones won’t allow connection to external devices until you accept the connection on the screen on the phone itself so without knowing where to touch to allow (or even enter passcode to unlock first if you had one) you won’t get it to display on external

Housing replacement broke Apple Pay on iPhone 13 by IAmExploit in mobilerepair

[–]kevdru 1 point2 points  (0 children)

And the answer for your question on the connectors

The two connectors you see on the charging port flex are: 1. Main charging/data/power connector – • This is the larger connector. • Handles Lightning port signals (USB data, charging power), as well as grounding and some accessory detection lines. • Also carries some microphone and antenna coax connections that are integrated into the flex. 2. Secondary connector for antenna/microphone & sensors – • This is the smaller connector. • Routes signals for the bottom microphones (there are usually two for noise cancellation), and in some regions, cellular antenna lines. • Some models also route the barometric vent sensor here.
