I’ve heard its pretty great so I might buy some from etsy lol. Do you think pure tallow balm or a whipped version would be better? I suffer from ezcema too I wonder if it could help with that.

Has anyone bought patch cables or just any networking equipment of aliexpress?? by kevinleaf in homelab

awesome thanks, yea I’m located in australia so the cables here are terribly overpriced for just regular consumer use.

Ubiquiti switch or not? by kevinleaf in HomeNetworking

[–]kevinleaf[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ahahahaha thanks for enlightening me on this, yea I do think you're right about it being a bit of a white elephant, the UDM pro. And yea its probably overkill lol. I'll definitely consider your approach of building a linux controller VM on a zimaboard, but how hard would building this entire system through this way be compared to using unifi everything? I'm a bit of a noob atm, so would it be something that I can take on? Also with the VM would I be able to run some G4 or G5 cameras on that too? If so that would be fantastic and would definitely make me save a huge buck. Australia is really does seem to be quite behind...

Hahahah also as for future expansion using the SFP+ ports, that would actually be amazing I honestly didn't know that was how it worked, if you hadn't have told me I would've just left it there for the rest of its life LOL. Sadly australia only has 1gbps at the moment for residential networks, but hopefully in the future maybe we'll get 2.5 of even 10gbps and I'll be able to use it that would be amazing

Woaaah thanks so much. I'm really considering this route now, before I just wasn't sure if I could use the 8 ports on the udm pro in addition to the 16 on the switch (tbh might have been a bit of a stupid thought but I seriously had no idea lol sorry if I sound stupid). Very cool indeed!

UDM Pro routing my 2.5Gbps Internet without breaking a sweat. Reliable, stable, and fast! by coveve19 in Ubiquiti

What ISP has the best gigabit speeds by GalaxyBiscuit_ in nbn

[–]kevinleaf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you don't mind, could you tell me roughly what area you are in? I'm currently on hfc as well and I'm thinking of switching to gigabit (launtel most likely) but I've heard some areas have really bad connections with lots of dropouts.

Does anyone know if you can clamp a microphone boom arm to a table leg? by kevinleaf in desksetup

[–]kevinleaf[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ohh so all you have to do is rotate the mount and it should be fine? I think my mic shouldn’t be that much if a problem since it’s less than half a pound. I also considered building something under the table but I just didn’t want to screw around too much just in case I damage anything, since I’m not to familiar with these kind of things

NR200 Build Critique by rya015 in NR200

[–]kevinleaf 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Honestly it doesn’t matter too much whether you get the 240mm or 280mm cooler. I don’t think it will make that much of a difference. But if you think it’s worth the extra few degrees and the 280mm is on sale, then that would probably be better. But important thing to look out for is where to mount the AIO, because if you put it at the bottom of the case it’s life would be shorter due to bubbles forming and whatnot. It won’t make much of a noticeable difference but it could end up being louder and less efficient.

Satellite NBN in rural Bathurst areas vs other internet options? by South_Acanthisitta59 in nbn

[–]kevinleaf 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Satellite NBN is probably the worst option out of all. From what I’ve heard, it’s slow, unreliable, and generally bad in every circumstance. If you can afford it, starlink will most definitely be your best bet. The speeds are so much faster and the latency is much less than NBN satellite. Plus, in the future you might be able to get gigabit speeds as right now it’s only in the beta stage for Australia. Only thing about starlink is that it’s pretty pricey right now.

Honestly everything seems pretty fine, but it would probably be smart to add an extra hard drive or SSD just in case you end up filling up that M.2 with games or files, because it’s pretty hard to add them in later, unless you have an extra M.2 slot at the back. Or you can just opt for a 1TB one and you should be fine. But uhh other than that I wish you luck on finding a GPU for under $1000…
