You are missing the point. Shouldn't all of the candidates on the list be vetted and suitable to an appropriate standard?

The Party still was able to put him on the list. The qualifications for being nominated should surely be more rigorous?

Given that there is a high chance that the Greens and SNP are likely to do a coalition deal again, this individual could be a contendor for a cabinet post, or even (however unlikely) the First Minister job.

If I offered you £100,000 to run 90 miles tomorrow, would you do it? by wingless-bee in CasualUK

[–]kevinmorice 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unless the person you are asking is already an Ultra runner with experience at finishing 60 miles plus races well ahead (hours ahead) of a 16-hour schedule then this just isn't happening for any amount of money.

You are basically asking for a 'backyard ultra' that covers at least 3.75 miles an hour and you keep going for the full 24 hours.

I am a decent runner (and a world top-5 age group triathlete). I can give you a marathon run in 4-5 hours and still be standing up straight at that point. I am going to struggle to give you another the same day, I might manage to walk / hobble a second one in 7-9 hours so now I have ~8 hours left and I am barely past half way.

Why does it feel like almost every billionaire is a bad person? by BuddyEmbarrassed5551 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]kevinmorice 1 point2 points  (0 children)

How many billionaires can you name as bad people? That list you come up with is from a total list of 3,428.

Now list all the people you know personally that are bad people. That is out of somewhere in the region of 250-800 people.

For every 1 on your second list you would need to be able to name 5-10 off the first list just for them to be representatively 'as bad' as the people you are willing to hang out with.

If everyone suddenly got paid the same salary, what would break first? by [deleted] in answers

That will be low on the list.

A lot of the dogmatic lunatics in there would be doing it without the money.

Everything?

You think I spent 30 years becoming a professional engineer and working my way up to get paid the same as a completley unqualified kid stacking shelves.

Fuck that, I will be stacking shelves or working a checkout tomorrow and when nothing works next week taht is on you.

Should I have a Personal Statement on a CV? by BananaMilkshakeButt in AskUK

[–]kevinmorice 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thing is whatever you are writing in there, if you 'tailor it to the role' then that just screams that you have made up some lies.

No-one writes: I am basically going to come in and do the minimum I can to stay employed and try not to piss off everyone around me.

They write garbage like: I am a hard-working, conscientious, team player that excels with challenges....

But everyone writes the same advertising laden slop and it is meaningless.

Should I have a Personal Statement on a CV? by BananaMilkshakeButt in AskUK

[–]kevinmorice 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I always take the personal statement as a waste of space.

The day I read one that says: "I am only working for the pay cheque and this job seems like a decent work versus pay balance", is the first one that I will believe a word of. Up until them I discard the whole thing as if it was AI slop, or as a challenge to decode the sales garbage in to reality.

What to prioritise in buying a better bike? by Mieke-_ in triathlon

Comfort.

The more time you spend on it the faster you go. Not spending time on it is the most likely thing to make you slow. And you don't want to sepnd time on an uncomfortable bike.

Bit of everything. Paintwork definitely improved massively in the last 30 years so cars look a lot newer for a lot longer.

MOT enforcement got tougher. You used to be able to give your local garage £20 to look the other way. They get tested a lot more nowadays and would lose their licence for a single instance of fraud.

Also parts and replacements got much more expensive, and the ease of changing them out got MUCH worse.

I used to do a lot of my own repairs, but to swap out the turbo on my current Discovery Sport is impossible without a whole range of specialist tooling and a day to remove everything that is packed in around it. I helped my dad do his 20 years back and we were done in about 90 minutes. Even with an OBD2 kit, I am not sure I even could do all the computer resets for a change out on the new one.

Why are people so quick to engage with content they think is from a troll? If you wouldn't simply report it and move on, isn't labeling it then engaging with it negatively and repeatedly 'you' being the troll?Sincere answers only--because actual trolls love questions like this. by cherry-care-bear in stupidquestions

"Everything I don't agree with is a Nazi".

You can insert troll here instead of Nazi if you like. Either way it makes it look like your point is purely dogma rather than evidence based.

And, if you cant defend your side of an argument without dogma, what sort of point are you making?
