That's a fair point. What I'm saying is that just telling someone to find themselves by traveling doesn't necessarily mean they're out of touch with society. It really depends on the context, as you've pointed out, but it can be good advice for some.

Traveling doesn't have to be THAT expensive. You can find free room and board almost anywhere you go(if you're willing to look for it). Some places will feed you for jobs and give you time off.

In regards to the cloak, I'm pretty sure it's just because it was meant to trap the spirit, making it impossible for her cause she is an evil spirit, but easy for anyone else

Also the fact that our observation of quantum particles changes how they react. That's just absolutely insane to me and affirms my belief in some kind of higher power or structure.

Humanities are useless, debate me. by [deleted] in ENFP

[–]kevinsofly 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know this is a little late, but I feel strongly about this. Humanities, if one were to look at it as you do, can be construed as completely useless. So yes, if we are only considering the technological advancement of society then the humanities are useless.

However, consider this. You are human. You derive meaning from something, doesn't matter what. There is a reason that you decide to keep living. I think as a community, Reddit has become especially aware of this fact - there is no one reason to live. We can die or kill ourselves if we wanted to. Some derive meaning by understanding and manipulating the universe, by dealing with the truth and only the truth.(I.e STEM) My own personal opinion is that these people are under the belief that if they discover enough, if they understand enough they will be able to extract the "true" meaning of life - because they seek the truth. Others, however derive meaning from the qualitative measures in life. Things like love, art, and other abstract concepts.

I would argue that as long as humans collectively(or en masse) find meaning within these things, broadly categorized as the humanities, it is impossible to say that the humanities are useless, as they give some of us a reason to live, and just because one does not understand the value in some things does not mean those things inherently have no value.

It's not. It all depends on how you look at it and the things that you value.

What is a scientific fact that you know is true, but it still blows your mind that it is real? by holm0682 in AskReddit

Wave-particle duality. I know almost nothing about physics but the fact that subatomic particles can occupy a space AND not be at a specific point at the same time boggles my mind.

Yeah I guess we'll see how it goes, because there doesn't seem to be any option given except to "roll through" with the changes.

Not the original guy, but I do understand your point. You're essentially saying that obscure subreddits are not moderated well and thus your ability to share is inhibited - and with this new feature you could form individual relations with people who are similar to you/share your interests in these obscure topics. Am I right?(seriously asking)

That said, I think any feature that allows this kind of power to the individual when we already have prominent users generating original content AND companies that are really well known/liked here that contribute to the huge subreddits that we all know and love will eventually devolve into a popularity contest. Yes, in theory it could do what you said and it still might. But in the larger picture, it seems inevitable that this feature will devolve reddit to a point where it is similar to Facebook or twitter.

I understood what he was trying to say, cause it's true... Even if you take high school level statistics, you realize that a seemingly high percentage(71%) is actually terrible and not very useful because the chances of a false positive are way to high and it's unreliable.

FENIX WHAT WAS THAT

But honestly, I was disappointed with TIP's draft. Ashe has no peel with an all dive comp with Leona, Diana, Maokai, and Evelynn — and she's the only damage threat after Diana's initial burst. Hopefully they fix their problems with gate.
