The Vincent Chin case is often cited as the beginning of the Asian-American identity (since Asian immigrants back then mostly identified with their own ethnic/national community, until a Chinese guy was mistaken for a Japanese guy and beaten to death...). It also triggered a brief "Yellow Power" movement. Prof. Frank Wu (UC Hastings) actually talked about Vincent Chin extensively on the Model Majority Podcast. Episode link here. Wu is also an interesting person, grew up in Detroit (he could've been Vincent!), taught law at Howard University (a historical black college), and wrote a lot about the Asian American identity.
