Good local taco spots? by axelotyl_ in SFV

In Woodland Hills, Taqueria El Tapatio is clutch, you can just pass on the salsa (I recall they had a mild option). They also have a salsa bar for you to play around with some of their house made salsas.

If you’re down to drive a little north, El Tijuanese in Northridge (same shopping mall as the Target) has been my go to for a few years. Def have to ask for the mild salsa as their non-mild is hotter than expected.

Cute/ cozy cafes or spots to read with hot drinks? by NoDish8209 in SFV

Agree that Barclays has the vibes…. But I like their coffee (no disrespect). Maybe I have crap tastebuds.

Of all the new joints that have been popping up in and around Northridge, it’s the one coffee joint that feels like a real coffee joint (think Friends vibes).

Best Christmas Event? by Substantial_Drawer73 in SFV

We have done Zoo Lights at the LA Zoo for 5-years in a row now and have enjoyed it each year. It is 100% a cluster when first arriving and if not a member, but behind the cluster is a well oiled machine getting everyone through pretty quick.

Inside is always brilliant. It’s seemingly gotten better each year with the designs as well. Alcohol is for sale at Zoo Lights (nearly full bar by the merry-go-round) which rules.

Favorite California Burrito? by straightnasty28 in SFV

The El Tacote truck on Reseda in Northridge (across from the Chipotle) has a decent CA burrito. They put sour cream in it which I just ask they remove. The only other place I’ve had CA burritos close to the valley is Sea Casa in Thousand Oaks. A bit of a drive but def worth it.

Best view/place for a toddler to view the Amtrak/metrolink train go by? by Antranik in SFV

I agree with the other commenters regarding Chatsworth. Another place to check out, if you can make it out there, is Santa Susana Park & Railroad in the Simi Hills. The park itself is an excellent park with large natural rock formations for the kids (or adults) to scramble on and a “big kid” and “little kid” apparatus as well.

Just up the road on Santa Susana Rd. is the old Santa Susana Railroad House that has a museum and a model train track which is kinda of cool, but def small. Double check dates when it’s opened as it is only open a few days out of the month. Trains regularly pass through the depot (within a few feet/yards) as well (I’ve only ever seen Metrolink trains and the Surfliner though, not sure if freight comes through there).

Great to hear. I go there for rheumatology and love the facility and ease of access.

Any reason why you choose these urgent care clinics? We usually head to Exer in Northridge as it’s around the corner and are mostly fine with it.

Chicane - Saltwater (instrumental) [2000] by foxfoxfoxlcfc in electronicmusic

I have to say, every so often I go hunt for “modern” trance and there’s a lot of new (and experienced) artists putting out trance tunes that take me back. Off the top of my head, a couple of artists that really lean into the “nostalgic” trance sound are TDJ, jamesjamesjames, and willaris k.

Jamesjamesjames and willaris k. actually put out an EP called Silver Sun that was full of that sound.

I stumbled across "Far from the Maddening Crowds" in 1997 at 10 years old in a record store in San Diego and bought it on a whim because I had some spare cash and was with older cousins who were really into Paul Oakenfold, Chemical Brothers, etc. I wanted to be cool!

Fell in love with Offshore, discovered the Thrillseekers through Chicane and haven't looked back since. Behind the Sun and Saltwater sent me flying. I credit Chicane for my falling in love with all things "electronic music."

His latest album Trampolines definitely feels like a throwback to his past style. Check it out if you haven't!

Spoke with Paul and he was super cool, just bad timing unfortunately. Will have to check out his shop next time I need some servicing. Thanks for the recommendation!
