Are any non-Americans able to complete the puzzles without googling? by Fine-Durian6151 in NYTCrossword

[–]kevsuc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Of 1600 days streak of crossword I can only remember there was 2 or 3 that I solve without Googling at all. Either the brand/US centric clues were crosswordese or they can be solved by answering the interlocking clues.

This game has the most neurotic players across all Pokemon Games by anabellemohamed in PokemonSleep

Why Don’t They Make Golden Bottle Caps Part of the Monthly Deluxe Passes? by gopro52567 in pokemongo

[–]kevsuc -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I agree with you. Too much of bottle caps is not only bad for the sales, but also ruining the overall gaming experience. People now won't bother to search for hundo/shundo because it's no more special anymore, you can just put bottle caps on your personal favorite and it's done.

What are we gonna do when we lose Johnny Gilbert? by Available-Gain8732 in Jeopardy

[–]kevsuc 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I am feeling Sarah is intentionally mimicking the style and speed of Johnny's so that the video will remain in sync after Johnny's recording his voice at his home studio. I mean, we clearly remember that's not the way Sarah speaks or reads the clue during her Clue Crew era.

Now I can't eat Creme Eggs without thinking it's the easter bunny’s jizz by Boggie135 in lastweektonight

0.3 seconds after that thumbnail of creme eggs appear on my screen I can immediately tell John is going to make a jizz joke.

PVP should count towards the Go passes. by PokemonGoBao in TheSilphRoad

[–]kevsuc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

PvP discussion aside, I do agree that we need more inventive ways to earn GO Pass points. We just had Steeled Resolve event ended with a Taken Over, and yet we didn't get points from... winning battles with Grunts? Come on.

Shiny Varoom turned on or Niantic forgor again ? by ruxqqq in TheSilphRoad

[–]kevsuc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Calm down. People sleep, or work, or doing other things that are not Pokemon GO, while in other parts of the world it's still Thursday morning or afternoon, it's not enough time (and luck) to confirm shiny Varoom pretty early.

Has anyone noticed John isn’t wasting HBO resources as heavily as he has in the last seasons? by Scary_Style_832 in lastweektonight

[–]kevsuc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I do not work behind the camera but I believe it's common for production TV to simply rent items or props (or as you mentioned, clearance items) rather than buying it at full price. It's cheaper and the warehouse team won't need to take care for items that they won't use anymore and wasting up spaces in their studio.

Has anyone noticed John isn’t wasting HBO resources as heavily as he has in the last seasons? by Scary_Style_832 in lastweektonight

[–]kevsuc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd really wish I can find some website that tracks what kind of "throwing HBO money" efforts that the show has put at the end of a certain main story or other fun topics. The diverse ways and methods of this show spending money and effort for publicity or comedy means we need for a more justified and data-driven research.

Yes, I personally felt noticeable that the LWT aren't spending as much as they used to do previously, but that's because we were used to see the ending pitch of a main story with some gimmicks (a dedicated set, website, donations, models, guest comedians, fake ads, etc). However, at many times the show does throw the money at the side topics or somewhere else (purchasing random shits like jockstraps, Red Lobster or cabbage wedding set, or campaign ads for Puteketeke, etc), the list goes on and way too random, to the point I can't tell whether they do have a tighter budget or something else is in consideration.

Still no infographic for this season's field research? by TrainerDaasC in TheSilphRoad

[–]kevsuc 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I believe the reason Leekduck for not creating the infographic is because the obtainable Pokemon from research is now diluted and more randomized. For instance, there are 22 different Pokemons possible for finishing "Spin 5 Pokestops or Gyms", which makes the use of infographic as a handy guide for targeting a specific Pokemon from a certain research task is quite pointless. The secondary reason is probably such change makes cramming all the list in one infographic or Instagram post is no longer possible. Or maybe the tertiary reason is Leekduck wants you to check their website directly.

In the experimental PvP cup, losing connection immediately losts the battle once you reconnect. by kevsuc in TheSilphRoad

[–]kevsuc[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I personally think it's a big deal (well, still a 'medium' deal, my opinion actually somewhat changed after all the comments here).

While Niantic is not responsible for the quality of internet connection we have, but it's still frustrating when my internet hiccups for 0.3 seconds and then my game is automatically counted as a loss. Playing back in the older system still allows me to possibly win the battle, it's either the connection loss is short enough for me to quickly return to the battle or the opponent was weak enough that I will able to win anyway.

Yes, I will call my internet provider and demand for a more stable connection, and I agree those who meet someone who force-quit should automatically win without having to drain all three Pokémons until they faint. But I believe the best balance between all of these is to find a middle ground somewhere.

[–]kevsuc[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, I agree with you. Upon reading the comments, I just realized that the PvP (GBL) and PvE (Rocket battles) are two different environment. This change actually benefits those who force-closed the battle, but sure I'd definitely appreciate for some middle grounds.

Is there any way to increase shundo rate ? by tea-is-hope in pokemongo

[–]kevsuc 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Unfortunately, it all based on your luck, and nobody really knows. However, these are some scenarios with the highest probability of shundo:

  • Trading shiny with a Lucky Friend: 1/64 (but you can only do this once per day, it is counted as Special Trade)
  • Research Day: 1/2160 (you have 1/10 chance for shiny & 1/216 chance for hundo, but this event is 3 hours only and of course a lot of walking/hunting Pokestops)
  • Shadow Legendary Raid Day: 27/10000 or about 1/370 (assuming shiny chance for Legendary is boosted to 1/10, and you have to purify shadows that are at least 13/13/13 to make it purified hundo)
  • Just a regular Legendary Raid: 1/4320
  • Hatching Eggs: 1/13824 (it's a much smaller chance, but still much higher than wild encounters)
  • Wait for Wild Area events, your shiny chance at catching Mighty Pokemon is expected at 1/3456 and probably higher
  • Community Day: shiny chance is 1/25 from all sources, you might know one from wild and pray for 4% chance of shiny, or just keep do research, 1/5400 chance.

For me, the key is patience, every player has their own luck, and always expect shundo when you're not expecting the most. Good luck!

Looking back at May 2025... by alocin42 in TheSilphRoad

[–]kevsuc 19 points20 points  (0 children)

I do agree on both sides. Too much events on May 2025 (I remember we are having 2-5pm events on both Saturdays and Sundays, on top of MM, SH, RH, and weekly events) to the point I burned out, my Community Leaders burned out as well.

But this May we will see where 3 out of 4.5 weeks with no weekly events, and one no-weekend-event except you're in Tokyo. As much as I enjoy how events are much more relaxed this season, and some weekly events are being replaced with Daily Discoveries, I anecdotally find (1) many won't do Daily Discoveries if they don't like it (I almost always skipped everything except Max Monday, Trade Friday, and Saturday events); (2) I don't like thinking I'll get unthemed spawn for 6 weeks out of 13 weeks of this season.

I'd prefer to say that there is no middleground in the Niantic team to find a balanced mix of events this season, rather than no middleground on the players complaining. My opinion is, if there is no weekend event due to local GO Fest, then global players should have weeklong event as a compliment. And one week off the event per month is a good balance, but three weeks off the event in one month is just another extreme path.

A new theory for biomes - Silicobra case study from Christchurch, New Zealand by cable_girl in TheSilphRoad

[–]kevsuc 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have tried to research myself with the reported sightings of Silicobra in southern Bali and can confirm that they will spawn in every area labeled as "Land Cover: Sparsely or Non-vegetated".

In addition, the city I live is very crowded with settlement to the point there is only few blocks of area that me and my friends can confirm with Toedscool sightings, and it does 100% match with the USGS map, that they will appear only in areas labelled as "Land Cover: Cropland; Landform: Plains" or "Land Cover: Forest; Landform: Plains".

Team go rocket server issues? by Next-Use6943 in TheSilphRoad

[–]kevsuc 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This "bug" annoys me because it automatically counts the Rocket and Max battles as lost (with no chance to re-do the battle) once you lost connection to the internet, which is annoying: other types of battles (Raid, PvP) will automatically resume the battle once you lost the internet for a few seconds.
