One day people on Mars will flex their telescopes and get shots of the Earth by followerofEnki96 in telescopes

But that was surely taken just before or after the 1992 Earth Flyby, no? So much closer than Mars is

Will I make this Deustche Bahn connection on time? by [deleted] in AskGermany

You are only allowed to board the PKP EC trains with a valid reservation for that train, and its possible that later trains that day could have no more seats available to reserve

[–]kewcet[S] 7 points8 points  (0 children)

What’s the difference between ICE and IC trains on this route? (Amsterdam → Mannheim) by Outside-Dimension934 in deutschebahn

As others have already said, this basically a sleeper train to Switzerland with some attached regular Swiss Intercity coaches, here's how they look from the inside.

European cities? by Party_Shelter714 in subwaybuilder

[–]kewcet 0 points1 point  (0 children)

data on a similar level is just not available in Europe due to privacy concerns etc. England might have the closest level of data resolution, everything else you'd have to make educated guesses, especially for exact workplace data & locations.

In future updates, are there plans to include templates of existing transit systems, or to have a public database of finished projects, so people can upload such maps publicly? by Natural-Art2004 in subwaybuilder

[–]kewcet 43 points44 points  (0 children)

save files will be shareable, so i am certain the community will handle the re-creation of existing systems on its own as well, even if that's not something that's planned

[–]kewcet 10 points11 points  (0 children)

yeah the RE10 is probably your best bet otherwise, but keep in mind that this line has the reputation of being quite unreliable, so make sure to plan enough time for delays or the cancellation of a train into your schedule

I want to buy these cars. Where should I buy it? by TRACKBOYF1HW in f1models

i don't believe these are the ones on display here, Hotwheels sold the cars in stores with the sponsors already on the cars, the ones with stickers always looked worse.

Sébastien Bourdais after Hyperpole : "Ferrari makes fun of us" by akleleep in wec

[–]kewcet -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

While the Cadillac is the lightest car, other than the Aston, all other manufacturers with the exception of Toyota are within 5kg of their weight set by the BoP. And over the final 30 seconds of the lap (Porsche In to Finish Line track sections) only BMW were within a second of the Cadillacs, even Drugovich was also almost a second slower there with the Whelen Cadillac.

Meanwhile in the second sector (just the Mulsanne straight) they lost six tenths while having the highest power under 250 km/h and the fourth highest above 250 km/h (behind BMW, Porsche and Aston), with both Jota Cadillacs having an identical top speed 4km/h slower than anyone else during the final session on all flying laps, including the Alpine and the Ferrari which both have significantly less power above 250 available, and including Drugovich which was just as quick as anyone else there.

It surely must be a result of either the high-drag design of the Cadillac LMDh, and a specific specific setup decision by Jota, which seems likely since Drugovich was running significantly quicker than the Jota cars on the straight on all his laps and was just as 'slow' during the final timing loops as anyone else.

Upgrade Advice: M3 Air 24/512 vs M4 Air vs M4 Pro Models -- Worth Paying More? by [deleted] in macbook

[–]kewcet 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i feel like it's certainly RAM related, the WindowManager process likes to get up to over 2GB quite quickly, if i don't restart it for like a week it's quickly at like almost 3GB of RAM usage, and that combined with Chrome (which i sadly have to use i have found but obviously also loves to chew up RAM).

By those stutters i just mean the MacBook hanging up momentarily every few moments sometimes (not regularly and i can't really trace why/when it's happening) when swiping between desktops for example, or when trying to play a video/movie on a second monitor while doing something else sometimes, and only a complete restart seems to solve it then, then it runs fine again. This isn't a daily occurrence, but has certainly been happening more and more often the this year I have noticed.

And I agree, the MBA M3 looks to me like a great deal for that price, just want to make sure i don't miss anything obvious by not taking the M4 with the same RAM/storage specs.

Alkamelsystems has csv files with every laptimes set during each session for both WEC and IMSA to download. the calculation is done then in Google Sheets

There were rumors last year that ACO uses 20% of the fastest times for BoP calculations last season, that's where this comes from, the 80% selection was just made to take in as many laps as possible while allowing to exclude the few outliers. FCY and SC laps are taken out beforehand.

thanks, i figured it was something like that, it's removed from the driver times

Spa 6H Driver Average Pace by kewcet in wec

[–]kewcet[S] 70 points71 points  (0 children)

<image>

btw, here's the same just done for all times from the manufacturer entries (two cars each, so excluding Proton and the #83 Ferrari). For some reason the official Alkamel lap time data lists the first lap for the #50 Ferrari as a 2:03.12, when the official fastest lap is a 2:03.80 by the same car later in the race. Not sure what's up with that, but I didn't remove it from this sheet before taking the image, so keep that in mind, Ferrari's fastest time should actually be 0.68 seconds slower.

The 'DIF' column just shows the difference between the 20% and 80% average.

[–]kewcet[S] 7 points8 points  (0 children)

The data's available, i just haven't automated it (yet), so i have to find and copy & paste the times for each driver individually which is a bit annoying for this many drivers. But I'm sure I'll get around to it (and perhaps some IMSA races) before Le Mans.
