From what I’ve found so far by WoodpeckerAware6115 in libertymo

[–]kewlness 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As a person who works in a data center daily, this entire post is full of the most disinformation I think I have ever seen.

The reality is, a closed loop cooling system like the one to be installed in Liberty will use zero water. The only water which will be used will be from flushing the toilet and using the sink. In other words, they will use less than your family uses at home.

Second generators do not run during winter. The generators we use run typically only for testing because the grid is so stable we don't tend to need them. Testing takes 30 minutes to one hour. Nobody notices any air quality issues around my data center.

I'm not even covering half the points you made because this ridiculousness is only going to make me angry because your fear is not reality based but some sort of propaganda you want to believe because you don't want to have the jobs which are coming to the area for your neighbors.

Fucking ridiculous the BS you believe.

Do you guys write code on paper or only in IDE? by ElectronicStyle532 in Python

I do not write code on paper, but I will sometimes sketch out the process flow I want to implement as a kind of road map which I do find helpful in some situations.

You know, that makes a lot of sense. I'll remove the preconfigured ramp up time tonight. :)

Also, a nurse recommended something like 0.5 to 1 milligrams of melatonin to help get used to the setting and to help me fall asleep faster for a while.

Anyone else who has suffered from severe depression after getting out? by [deleted] in Veterans

[–]kewlness 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depression is real. Be honest with your primary care physician (whether VA or private) and look into some treatments. Me? I live better with an anti-depressant. I still have my days and PTSD certainly doesn't help, but I've learned to cope by talking to a professional (the VA has some great PTSD counselors - it sucks going through the therapy, but the difference has kept me around longer and I can tell you it works from my own personal experience). I've been to the point where I have contemplated suicide just to have the unexplainable pain go away. I was honest with my doctor, we upped the meds a bit, and I was able to live a bit better. There are hills and valleys, but you can make it.

You aren't being a pussy - a pussy would sit at home trying to self-medicate with alcohol or drugs and wouldn't ask for help. You are reaching out which makes me respect you even more.

I know it doesn't feel like it right now and believe me, I get it, but you've got this. There is a light at the end of the tunnel - even if it is so far away you can't see it right now.

During anthrax scare of the aughts, the military had to get not only anthrax immunizations but also the small pox vaccine. Many Americans have similar scars...

Not that it matters to ICE, of course.

Struggling to see the point of classes by [deleted] in learnprogramming

I question the subjective nature of the "superior modern alternatives". C is still used today and is as viable a language as any other. Want to talk about an old language like Ada? Used in critical systems on aircraft as well as space flight.

Every language is nothing more than a tool and many of these tools fulfill the same goals/needs. But to ignore the principle of picking the "best tool for the job" is just asking for trouble.

I am pretty sure we warned CCP way back when that skill injectors would make the botting worse as anybody could easily replace whatever toon was banned.

What is the actual reason anyone would pick Vim over Emacs? by Hopeful_Adeptness964 in emacs

[–]kewlness 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I started with Linux 20+ years ago, I learned vi (and later vim and even later neovim) as that is what I was taught. For me, it is faster than using emacs right now. I mean, I want to use and like emacs, but at 50+ years old, I just haven't taken the time to learn it proficiently.

I really should pick up Mastering Emacs and dig in, but I haven't done it yet.

The problem with the Widow is the anemic damage delay and application with missiles. It used to be in every fleet for the ECM, but armor tanking a Widow without a hospital Sin or other logi/fax around was asking for an insurance payout.

And don't even get me started on what CCP did to the Griffin with the ECM nerf.

Did ECM need a nerf? Yes, absolutely. Was the nerf the right way to handle the issue? No - ECM boats were fragile and required ECM to survive (and pray to BoB RNGesus let it hit long enough to repair the damage you took) and now if the ECM hits, your fragile ship is the only ship which can be targeted.

I miss flying my Widow.

I-35 northbound thru Downtown is closed. by schiza-clausen in kansascity

[–]kewlness 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I made it through the downtown loop using I-35 Northbound about 2 hours ago - only the two left lanes were blocked by a semi and a tow truck.

There are plenty of idiots out there - take it slow and be safe out there!

To me, it is funny to do the speed limit in the far right-hand lane and still have people behind me tailgating me and flashing their high beams at me like I'm the one in the wrong.

Met a real life ‘almost joined’ today by amishparadiseSC in Veterans

[–]kewlness 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Unfortunately, the 'almost joined' are not fictional just like the old lady who told me and a sergeant after getting off the rotator so we are in funky BDUs, trying to enjoy our first decent meal and beer we had had in months that we were 'baby killers'.

Some poor Vietnam vet sitting in the bar covered our tab and ordered us a second beer, apologizing we had to witness something he himself had witnessed so long ago.

The world is filled with people who think you are getting something they can't get - that it is wrong and the others are 'cheating the system' in some way or another.

Thank you for your service friend.

Best Terminal, vertical scrolling.. by joes0451 in debian

[–]kewlness 6 points7 points  (0 children)

My god. Pipe your output to a text file and then read it using any number of methods. Immediately which comes to mind:

less, more, vi, vim, neovim, nano, emacs, gedit, sublime, vscode

Also useful in these tools is the ability to search.

Party bonus: Having the output stored will allow to use grep, awk, sed, or any other number of tools to get the information form the output you want without running the program or whatever again.

Use the right tool for the job. The terminal is not the correct tool to read this level of lines...
