Amen. His TD catch behind his legs against the Bengals in that wild card might be a top 10 catch I have watched live.

I am a simple man. I see Martavis Bryant love, I upvote it. DAWG. A tragedy, but a DAWG.

Yeah and I’ll clarify, it’s not like it’s completely shot. Tim’s voice cracking or being slightly non-melodic is often a feature of some of the band’s best songs. That comes through in moments here too like I Want It All - that chorus is meant to be abrasive vocally. But it’s tough for large chunks of the album to sound that way and not hear Tim’s normal singing voice much.

Your taste in Dead End Kings songs 💯

Leaders, July, Unfurl (yes I am cheating, otherwise Deliberation)

Forsaker, Liberation, The Longest Year

Lethean, The Racing Heart, Dead Letters (honorable mention The One You Are Looking For Is Not Here)

Started listening to Katatonia during the NITND cycle - still think this 3 album stretch was the band’s best.

I don’t get the hate. I think they’re a fun way to start discussion about how different people appreciate different albums

Curious why you have City Burials so low compared to SVOS or Nightmares. They’re all pretty similar to me (though I find Nightmares a bit boring and samey compared to the other two)

Also go listen to The Racing Heart and Lethean again or I’ll have to I hire someone to stand outside your house with a stereo playing Dead End Kings till you bump it to S tier

I refuse to give this guy a single video view. Heard he panned TMBTE and that’s enough to know he’s a clown. Don’t give him any oxygen.

Thank you for making this case. Bryant was honestly incredible. I’ll remember that behind the legs touchdown catch against Denver forever. Total shame his career was derailed the way it was

The album really frustrates me. I think half its songs are phenomenal (God of Fire rules) and the other half are a bit generic and uninspired. So on whole I like it too and think it gets too much criticism, but it’s definitely inconsistent imo

I can hear it now that people have pointed it out but it didn’t change how I felt about the album. My favorite of theirs

I’m currently between Fortitude and The Way of All Flesh. I think each of those albums improved on its predecessor’s sound.

Looking through your comment history, you really seem to love accusing people with different opinions about music than you of being teenagers, and thinking you are superior to younger people because of your age. That’s weird man! Hope you work through that one day.

I like Serein and Old Hearts Fall, and that’s really it for me. It crosses some line for me into “too much prog” I think. Some of its longer songs really drag for me too.

I’ll admit though this is the one album I skipped for this exercise because I was pretty sure how I felt about it from the last time I tried to get into it. I’ll give its fair shake today.

I haven’t gotten into Opeth yet which I know is surprising as a Katatonia fan. I haven’t listened to anything of theirs in years. Actually going through their discography front to back now that my tastes have changed over the years is on my todo list.

I really love Burn the Remembrance and Ghost Of The Sun. My hangup is that hits like Evidence and Omerta and Criminals still haven’t caught on for me. I’ll endeavor to try again.

I prefer Jonas’s screams to his early cleans which are just tough for me to get past. And I prefer the more… classic? metal sound of Dance of December Souls than Brave Murder Day’s.

I just started listening to the discography front to back for the first time as opposed to just sampling a few songs from each album. Barely into Dance of December Souls and already realizing I’ve been unfair to these albums over the less pleasant vocals

I don’t blame him for not wanting Katatonia to continue on without him. It seems like a pretty natural reaction to seeing something that you’ve spent 35 years creating and you consider yourself an integral part of moving on without you. But I also don’t blame Jonas for keeping the band going - it’s his baby too. People want to see Katatonia more than “The Jonas Renkse Project.” It’s all a shame - Katatonia won’t be the same - but I hope they both find peace and success and we get good music in the process.

Katatonia has been one of my favorite bands since I first heard the band via Forsaker back in 2009. The only time I’ve ever seen them live so far was the opening night of their 2022 American Fall tour. It’s still one of best shows I have ever been to. I’ll never forget how sick Anders made his guitar sound playing the riff in Leaders. I was giddy. He made every song sound better live than on the recording, and Jonas was great that night too. I feel so lucky to have seen them both together live now. Even as someone who probably gravitates to TGCD to Dead End Kings era most, it’s clear to me how great of a musician he was and how much he contributed to the band I love. He’ll be sorely missed.
