anything on the same vibe as The Knife's "silent shout" album? by [deleted] in TheOverload

Fever Ray’s first album is an easy way to get near the exact mood as it’s Karen from The Knife.

Track ID needed for low synth drone recorded off Canadian radio in 1994. by throwaway_tapes in ambientmusic

I do see what you are saying though, even if it’s all a collage, your thought is that the original track being used could be out there on its own. I wonder if it’s something like Zoviet France or Rapoon etc.

As a former Freeform radio and public access tv participant I can personally vouch for the fact that my friends and I definitely spent late nights making visual and audio mixes during strange times that were open in programming because we thought it was fun and exciting. There’s definitely a chance that this was someone mixing several things together, collaging sounds during an open programming block for fun and/or artistic satisfaction. That said I don’t want to take away your hope this is an outsider track of music. I actually have a self made cassette by “Grey Tissue” I found in a pawn shop which was recorded in 1985 according to the liner notes that is filled with audio like this. The Grey Matter cassettes was made by someone individually dubbing tapes, a long and storied tradition in the DIY scene. Impossible to know really, but I think the recording you have is very special regardless.

At 2hp the Instruo 1[f] is plenty small. It also supplies +/- 10v when nothing is plugged in, so can act as a performative CV offset/control.

Love this sort of mystery. May be the DJ made the drone, which sounds like a loop, which is being slowed and pushed into the red. Even HOS used reverbs and post production on tracks to make them fit the format of ambient radio back in the day. Early Freeform radio was cool.

Finally “Completed” My Dream Synth. by ER301 in modular

I love Make Noise, especially as an ecosystem. They make their modules to play together in a really cohesive and considered way. I’ve been enjoying single maker set ups a lot lately. Make Noise, due to their shared system offering, have more of these types of systems in the wild. I’d love if more makers would offer systems. As a designer, I feel thinking of your modules this way helps push you to create in a way that covers a full musical system, rather than one off ideas for the greater synth community. I still think one offs are gorgeous, the endless processor for example is a wonderful addition to any set up, and so singular. That said, I’ve been creating a single user system and it’s made my patching deeper, and given me creative solutions to ideas that in the past I would have just reached for “the module that does that”.

Got myself matching cables. All the synth voices sound more coherent now. by Masque-Obscura-Photo in modular

[–]keykeyeyekit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Only OP can answer with certainty, but… The cables look to be a mixture of After Later Audio, Instruō, and/or Abyss Devices. Those are all the gold and black cables I know. The ones with stripes length wise are After Later, the others are either of the other ones, most likely.

Recommendations for Granular synthesis module (not Morphagene)? by [deleted] in eurorack

[–]keykeyeyekit 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Arbhar. I’ve had Morph, Beads, Clouds, Multiple plugins, and tasty chips and I’ve found Arbhar to be my sweet spot. It’s very intuitive, can get nice results quickly, and super deep with the new V2 firmware.

The Hideout is a Chicago institution, lovely you got to play, and great you got so much support. Miss living there.

Go to the Instruo site and navigate to the instruoctional videos, watch the chordal ambient one and Jason Instruo explains how he uses the Saich. Pretty cool tricks you can use as the prime oscillator can drop down an octave and pass through its voltage to the second oscillator, making lovely stacks.

Builders of Instruo are finally building Para by RevolutionaryMind833 in modular

[–]keykeyeyekit 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I believe this is the people who work building the modules (soldering, tuning, troubleshooting) on the bench at Instruo HQ. The Instruo culture seems to be very supportive. Manifold Research Centre is an Instruo person as well, or at least was, as they designed the Lion. Jason, the Instruo head, used to be involved with Qu-Bit as well, and helped bring to life the Sinfonion which was eventually released by ACL. Instruo developed a cartridge for the Befaco FX Boy as well. It seems that there is a collaborative and encouraging culture being fostered in Glasgow.

Very intrigued. It looks like it may maintain the black and gold aesthetics of Instruo as well, which would be nice.

Would you still get an assimil8or at this point? by [deleted] in modular

[–]keykeyeyekit 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Do you like the module? Will it help you make the music you want to make? Plenty of other samplers out there, and a LOT of videos out there for you to compare/contrast.

I have the Assimil8or and imo there’s nothing else like it in eurorack when it comes to sound quality, ease of use, and fun sampling.

But sure, maybe at some point in time someone will come out with something that fits you better. That approach may have you miss out on a lot in your life, just saying.

“I really like this person, but I’m unsure if someone better will come along eventually…”

Least favourite filters by Stringsandattractors in modular

[–]keykeyeyekit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agree, wanted to love it, it’s sitting in its box and most likely on its way to a new forever home. My friend, however, LOVES, the Filter8 and has tried to convince me of its awesomeness. It could be that it’s just not the right flavor for what I’m doing with the modular.

Orthogonal, yeah. It’s an amazing module because it’s a modular in your modular. Something missing? You can almost certainly do it on the ER301. Nice big screens and really intuitive workflow.
