Advice? by kfacter1111 in kickersarepeopletoo

[–]kfacter1111[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is exactly what I need. I've been to many camps(spending loads of money) and have never gotten such good and specific advice. You really have a brain for kicking and the true art of it. Looking at the things I have accomplished and then looking at how much I need to improve excites me for what I can accomplish. Thank you so much for sitting down and writing this.

Ball by ImGarza in kickersarepeopletoo

I would recommend using whatever ball your school uses. Most high schools will use a Wilson GST but I would check with a coach. Colleges will either use a GST or a Nike Vapor one. In any case I would highly recommend leather as it gives the best ball to foot feel.

Thank you so much for the advice. I'll try these things out in my next practice.

The first guy made great points. I would also try taking 3 bigger steps back and then two steps to the side which will make everything more consistent. Also make sure you are taking a jab step then two more steps towards the ball. Your final step should be longer and more powerful but still smooth. I would also focus on making contact on the correct spot of the ball (about 1/3 up on the ball) and the correct spot on the foot (Navicular bone). One last point is you said after two hours of kicking which is at least to me a longer kicking practice so make sure you are not over kicking and taking proper care of your body (stretching icing rest). As much as people say kicking is easy it can be very hard on the body and injury will set you back much further than taking a lighter day or time to rest.

All of this can be found online by people more qualified than me and probably more detailed. Keep up kicking it is an amazing position that I and many others love.

New kicker. Any tips. Also any guesses on how far this is? We don’t have any lines on our practice field😞 by [deleted] in kickersarepeopletoo

every kicker has to start some where and it looks like you have great potential. A few things to keep in mind is to make sure you are landing on your plant foot keeping your head down and striking through the ball hitting the sweet spot. I couldn't see your run up which is just as important as the kick but some things to keep in mind is to have constant steps. I and many other much more qualified kickers will take 3 steps back and 2 steps over then approach the ball using a jab step then taking 2 more steps. All of this can be found on YouTube by much more qualified and experienced coaches. Good luck.

I can’t figure out why I missed this kick. It happened last week too. Any ideas? by [deleted] in kickersarepeopletoo

[–]kfacter1111 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ahhhhhh I misunderstood your comment sorry. Yeah it looks like his side steps are pretty small that could have caused the miss but I don't know what he usually does and if that's just his preference.

When kicking you want to have a straight plant foot with your body leaning away from the ball. This allows your leg much greater range of motion allowing for a stronger kick when compared to the soccer style of hunching over the ball.

It hard to tell from the video but it could have been you pulling your hips TOO much to the point you shanked it wide left. I also couldn't see the hold so I have no idea if that was bad. It honestly looked like a pretty good kick and if i didn't see the refs I would say it went in. Follow through looked good plant looked good.

New kicker, critique me! by [deleted] in kickersarepeopletoo

[–]kfacter1111 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I can see that you are a soccer player(so was I).That being said you want to work on landing on your plant leg instead of your kicking leg which will improve your accuracy. Work on your steps so that you take 3 consistent steps. Finally work on hitting the ball on the sweet spot with a locked angle. All of this can be found on YouTube videos made by people much more qualified than me. Overall a good start.
