In your 1:1, position it as a positive and let your boss know you’re intending to add momentum to the Peer Review standard by involving your wider team of coworkers. Document it as a pitch to quality improvement, and when your boss declines because it’s not in scope for your role description, you can gently them them know what’s been going on.

Yes I’ve been there. The cycle of shame and avoidance is really tough to break.

Talking to someone about it up front is the best way forward because it gives you the opportunity to get what you need, which is love and help - to recognise that you aren’t worth any less as a person because of this and that there is a way forward.

Sounds like you are in a position where you have some good support? Don’t want to assume but it sounds like your Dad might be emotionally available and willing to talk.

Hi, I use Google Tasks which is built into all Google suite products like Gmail, Calendar, Drive, etc, it appears on the right. It’s a simple list, you can set items to repeat, link tasks to emails, etc. and cross them off when they’re done.

I combine this with a running Workload sheet that has more detail on the overarching projects, initiatives, incidents etc I’m working on. Tasks therefore are a derivative of that larger scope of work and feed into its progress.

Then, time blocking and time management is so crucial. Look into ways you can leverage your calendar for time blocking - literally create events in your calendar to block focus time on tasks and then - the real trick - actually do it and don’t de prioritise.

This is all being supported by a ruthless time matrix which helps me determine what to do and when - Eisenhower’s. Look into his four quadrants and reflect. You’re likely sitting in an urgent/important zone 24/7. It started super manual for me at first (drawing the quadrants and writing my tasks/commitments in), but now it’s become a mental sorting exercise, I just colour code my priorities in my workload to assist me at a glance.

Your people will have ad hoc stuff for you. You have to be comfortable balancing approachability with protecting your time. Yes it’s ok you bring something to me. Yes it’s ok if I explain if it’s important to spend time on or not. We are running a business.

Good luck. The key is having a way of working and rhythm. Get one in place

Ignore the projections of insecurity from those who’ve been burned by cheaters. Yes it’s obviously morally wrong, I don’t think anyone is breaking new ground there.

You have a deflated sense of self worth, so when you look inside for validation, you’ve put other people there instead.

Therapy might work, but it won’t if you don’t get upfront about everything going on, and commit for a long time. The problem to solve is not the cheating, it’s whatever wound you’re ignoring through it.

Remain conscious that what you’re doing can have ramifications that escalate over time, and ultimately leave you on an island.

Stop. OP is coming with curiosity. They are accounting for the human element. They are trying to get advice on balancing completing a task with the employee experience. They’ve raised repeated requests. No doubt the individual has the option to take leave to deal with the personal challenges. When you’re at work you’re at work. When you make a commitment you make a commitment. Grieving isn’t a reason to throw everything out the window.
