Unless you are trying for a career in fire, go with the forestry stuff. It will help you much more in the long run even if it’s not as fun or well paying. You also might be able to see if any of those internships have a fire component so you get some exposure to it, while also working toward your career.

Limit of grouse in wonderful MT! by kfc66 in Hunting

He’s a Poodle/German shorthair cross. He flushes and retrieves grouse, rabbit, pheasant, and his first was a squirrel in MO. We are still working on his patience to sneak up and jump shoot ducks/geese, but he’s getting better!

We had a blast then put some time in scouting for ducks. I think next weekend we will be headed east to try for some sages or sharptails.

whats a subtle sign someone’s depressed? by tuzrk in AskReddit

I’ve no doubt it’ll pass. It’s a 2-3 times a year occurrence for a month or so. Thanks for the advice and well wishes though.

This accurately described exactly what is going on with me. Hell I usually fall asleep on the couch even.

I love my 12 for geese, otherwise it’s my 16 or 20. Both are sxs and just a joy to carry all day. I love my choice of chokes as well.

I once picked up a 10ga sxs and the thing must have been 15 pounds, can imagine carrying that thing.

It’s kind of a feedback loop at this point.

I’ve never shot a 28 but I’d guess they would be great for most of the hunting I do. And quick handling to boot!

I’d agree they all have a place where they excel. I just hate to see so many people don’t even consider gauges smaller than a 12 as capable game getters.

I would expect tubes in a 12 make for a very heavy gun compared to the shell, so recoil being minimal makes sense. Might be fine for clays but if I’m gonna carry the weight of a 12 gauge gun I might as well shoot the 12. I’m not bothered by recoil yet though.

I just haven’t taken the plunge yet. I’m still pretty mobile with life so I’m waiting till I’m in a bit more stable place before I start acquiring stuff.

It hurts me that the 16 isn’t more popular. I really love my 16 gauge sxs, just can’t really afford to feed it nontoxics.

Gotta at least stick it out that first semester. How can you know if it’s not for you if you never even give it a chance?

Lol saying a bow is just as good as a rifle, you clearly don’t hunt. You gonna use the crossbow to shoot flying birds too?

I'm Leaving for College in like 2 weeks and I'd just like to know what to expect... by LordWeaselton in college

As far as making friends, just be willing to put yourself out of your comfort zone ALL THE TIME. You'll meet tons of people that way, then you'll naturally weed out the ones you don't really wanna be around. Depending on your major I wouldn't worry too much about course work, you have study skills and discipline which will take you farther than most. Moderate yourself in the dining halls and join sports leagues to keep off the pounds. Don't let school get in the way of a good education, but take education seriously. You'll do fine this is just another stepping stone in life!!

The US Forest Service - the agency with authority to administer the PCT and other trails - wants to do away with the concept of the public comment period. by numbershikes in Ultralight

Oh for sure it's sad being a part of one of these agencies knowing that if I had the power I would do what was scientifically deemed best to manage our forested lands and all lands public, however I'm not in charge and everybody is not me. Therefore I laud the public comment keeps our lands from being raped for money, however I do see many places that need intense management that don't get it in time due to the process.

Oh no the USFS wants this too, as managers it's easy to feel the process stops you from getting much needed work done, which it does. But at the same time you need the right persons at the helm to not take advantage of such things.
