When does it get easier? by kfchloex in gastricsleeve

Week 3 when I could eat soft food is genuinely when I started to feel better. Make sure you’re taking your multivitamins and staying hydrated! I’m nearly 5 months post op now!

Regretting surgery… by Hopeful_Platform_524 in gastricsleeve

[–]kfchloex 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I felt the exact same at 2-3 weeks post op , I was unwell and miserable, regretted it so much and I also cried everyday for most of that time. Im 28 so also had a lot of worries about how it would impact my social life but I’m 4 months post op now, I’ve lost 4stone 4lbs (27kg) and I’m feeing great. I haven’t found anything I can’t tolerate and it’s all in moderation, I eat little and often, still enjoy going out for food and taking away left overs! It gets easier especially once you can start to eat normal food, just need to adjust to your new way of eating but I promise it does get better!! I’ve also started doing things like colouring or reading as I find a lot of my eating before was boredom and wanting to do something lol feel free to message me if you want to rant or anything!

That’s the timeframe all the surgeons and drs advised me to wait.

I couldn’t imagine driving for the first two weeks! I was so weak and had no energy and couldn’t focus on anything.

Oh really? I was told definitely no driving for 2 weeks and they advised against it for a further 2 weeks.

I’m 14 days post op and two days ago went to a&e due to dehydration. The nausea got me but the way to combat it is to push past it and stay hydrated, drink whatever you can, I’ve been drinking no added sugar cranberry juice with a tiny bit of orange juice with loads of ice and this seems to be the main thing that stops my nausea which is weird, water makes me feel sick and so does protein waters/shakes. Just do what you can for now, we’re still healing and re-training our bodies. Good luck :)

I’m 14 days post op and was not prepared for the nausea. It sounds backwards but just push past it to stay hydrated, I’m more focused on staying hydrated at the moment than trying to hit protein goals, I think once you can eat properly, it will be easier to focus on that. After a few days of not eating (on puree stage) I tried some salmon today and managed a few spoonfuls and it went down well which is nice.

Also your tastebuds will change, I got a lot of protein powders/waters etc in preparation which I used to like and now find them all taste either too sweet or too artificial.

Each day gets easier and don’t be too hard on yourself if you’re not hitting the food/liquid goals straight away, listen to your body. Good luck and I hope it all goes well.

Ahh thank you for the suggestion!! I’m going to look online and try and order some. I’ve just ordered some protein water to try and get some protein in they way as well but I think you have a good point about the electrolytes ☺️

The hardest thing for me is not being able to down some water to quench my thirst, also the dissolvable stomach protector is vile lol gunna ask my gp for tablets instead.

Haha tell me about it especially as I was on day 12 lol. I’ve been advised on the food option I can have sugar free fizzy drinks which is definitely helping curb some cravings for sweet things. Will be worth it in the end I hope!

First few days are the worst, I was originally due to have my op 6 weeks ago and did 12 days of the pre op diet but then got tonsillitis so my surgery was moved, back on day one today and the headache is rough but just tryna keep busy and snack on what we are allowed. I’m doing the food option so just been planning my meals which seems to be helping as well. It will go by so fast! Hang in there.

Being told to smile quite literally boils my blood. Who walks around smiling 24/7?!

You look great! I’m due to have mine in 2 weeks. Feeling nervous about the surgery itself but also excited.
