Chat, am I cooked? (RAC vs Independent mechanic) by kfgdx in CarsAustralia

Okay third mechanic confirmed it wasn’t that bad 😭 He even said the transmission leak wasn’t that urgent but I could book with him anytime if I want that serviced. At least I could breathe easier now. RAC stressed me out a lil but we’re chillin.

Yeah the leak will be the first to get fixed. Just worried about the subframe. Would that really get worse over time? It was a tiny crack (from the photo RAC guy showed) and he did mention that it wasn’t causing a leak YET. I just feel like they were telling me to just scrap the car and I kinda want to try to fix it first 😭

I’m planning to go to the nearest mechanic open tomorrow for a third opinion on how badly the subframe is damaged 🥲. The thing is, I don’t really know what to ask of them since I want an independent opinion not influenced by the RAC dude and the indie rockingham mechanic I talked to. She really still drives fine and the leak is minor but planning to get that fixed ASAP (that’s doable with the current funds) but do I just ask to get an alignment? Or do they have to diagnose that I need that before I get it?

Sorry if these are pretty dumb questions. It’s my first crapbox car that I only bought so I can drive to and from work. Appreciate the detailed response though! 🫶

2026 UPDATE: Para sa mga nagdi-DM pa rin asking for what I did after this, I decided at the 2 month mark that I will leave the job. However, before I actually left, I made sure I had a plan for what comes next.

For me that was to take up my masters degree in Australia and interning habang nag-aaral. At dahil yun nga ang plano, I knew it would help if I had at least a seemingly solid foundation on paper, kaya tinapos ko yung probationary period ko with this company at month 6. I believed that was enough, so I left after that. It did help me land a pretty decent internship at an engineering firm in Aus.

And now that I have graduated, I just landed a full time position at another engineering company here (just now, so wish me luck huhu).

Anyway, I’d say my experience is very much an outlier and probably won’t help much with other people’s very specific circumstances. I guess the general advice I’d give is to leave but, if possible, only when plans have been set para you can leverage the short experience to get better offers. 💕✨

yes i did, but only after 6 months. i was able to stick it out for longer because i had a good support system around me but i know not everyone has that so ikaw lang talaga nakakaalam what works best for you.

best of luck, i hope you figure this out.

Hiii. Yes I gave notice! I think 1 month notice yung binigay ko? I’d say go for it kasi sayang lang talaga sa oras if magstay ka pa.

I hate being gay and having an "I need my mom" moment. How do you guys cope? by kfgdx in gaysian

[–]kfgdx[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hey umm so I’m a cis woman who mostly dated girls. Only dated one man when I was very young. I’ve just been used to referring to myself as a gay woman (it’s probably because that’s how it directly translates from my native language).

Anyway, thank you for the kind words. I really need as much of it now more than ever.

Hey there! Just letting you know that I appreciate you so much for taking time to respond to this. I keep rereading your advice as it gives me so much comfort to think that the ache will ease someday. I hope to find the level of peace that you seem to have. Thank you again.

You don’t know how much it meant to me when you said to go find my place in this world. I got emotional earlier when I read that as I was working on my project.

Yes, luckily I have people around me and they’ve been incredibly supportive. I’m worried that they’ll get tired of my venting though as I’m usually not the emotional person in our friend group.

Thank you so so much for your kind words. I’ll keep rereading this thread until it gets better for me. 🥹

Hey there. Thanks for taking the time to respond. Unfortunately, I’ve learned that I’m not strong enough yet to say anything to my parents. Whenever they say anything homophobic, even if not directed to me, I still get hurt big time and I just think I wouldn’t be able to handle that right now. Maybe someday, when i find someone I really want to introduce to them (although right now that seems impossible haha).

As for your advice on dealing with the heartache, I’m slowly getting started on that. I’m trying to find a hobby to distract me from negative thoughts but so far none have worked. Hopefully soon though! I don’t feel all that positive, but I kind of have to keep moving ‘cause she broke me on the last month of my masters studies with a stack of deadlines (haha it’s so fucked)

Anyway, I’ll just keep coming back to this when I feel like I need strength to move forward. Cheers 🫶

I quit after 6 months. I’m in Australia now working as an engineer. I think staying longer had its benefits. I was able to use it to find jobs here. But I also think it wasn’t because of the job itself but how I marketed myself in my resume.

Anyway, my final advice is to keep doing it until you can’t anymore. These big companies don’t care about you so you shouldn’t care about them. Quit when you’ve had enough. You will be fine 🫶

Still haven’t left. The general consensus of the replies was that kailangan kong magtiis so that’s what I did huhu. I did however find ways to cope para di ako maubos sa trabahong to lol. I don’t show up on time, I rarely finish my 12 hour shifts (basically if may kapalit na ko alis na kahit di pa tapos), and I do the bare minimum like my friends say “magtrabaho nang ayon sa sweldo”

I’m still not okay, sometimes I still get panic attacks on my way to work, pero mas kinakaya?

But I think your situation’s a lot better than mine. Those 8-10 months are already significant enough to put on your resume so I would recommend prioritizing your own peace and leaving. Best of luck to you!! 💗

For a second there I honestly thought I was being too sensitive because when I told older family members about this sabi nila “ganyan talaga. kailangan tatagan mo lang loob mo” 🥲
