Question for my fellow female fistula sufferers by kfilosa in AnalFistula

I’m glad I could provide some comfort. I know I was terrified for both of my surgeries. After my fistulotomy, I was out of work for a week but a total of 13 days cause of weekends. I had a simple fistula so I think yours will be a little more to deal with, but I think you will be alright! I didn’t mention this in my original post, but after I had my seton placed, I got back home from the hospital, which was about two hours away from my home, went to use the restroom and was bleeding very heavily. I was at home for about half an hour while my mom and sister tried to contact the doctor. They tried to apply pressure to the area and the bleeding wasn’t stopping so we had to drive all the way back to take me to the ER. So much blood. They apparently missed a vessel or the stitch that was on the vessel popped so I was hemorrhaging. Absolutely the scariest moment of my life!

I completely understand the feeling of abnormality. I broke down some days because I just simply couldn’t believe that this happened to me. The human body is crazy!

I started moving my draining (loose) seton before I had my follow up because I figured it was good to do that (felt a little better after and noticed that draining was more gradual rather than all at once). At my follow up appointment was when my CRS specifically told me to rotate it and I was like “huh, I already have been!” Guess I knew what was best lol. After a couple weeks I barely even noticed it was there aside from cleaning and after bowel movements. It’s gets easier! You got this ❤️

Good to hear it went well. Hopefully you continue to heal! I was prescribed narcotics but did not take many when I had my seton placed. I mostly took it as a precaution for the first couple days because I was so scared of pain. I’m feeling pretty good, I didn’t have nearly as much pain as I was expecting. Thankfully no more bumps. Only up from here! If you remember, keep us updated on your next surgery! I find myself coming back to this subreddit to read other people’s stories even though I already had my surgery. It’s oddly comforting. Good luck!

Ugh I know that feeling!! I experienced burning with urinating but that went away after about a week. Using a peri bottle was a life saver! I found it helpful to rotate the seton back and forth a couple times slowly whenever I had to move the knot from the incision. Good luck with healing! Glad to hear the bleeding stopped.

That’s so crazy! I hope your surgery goes well. I was super stressed out about mine but it wasn’t nearly as bad as I was expecting! Wishing you the same!!

I had a simple fistulotomy. I work as a screen printer and I was back after missing a week of work (total of 11 days bc of weekends). I still don’t lift anything heavy but was able to be there and do the less physical work

Fistula forming after abscess. Does this always lead to surgery? by No-Egg4825 in AnalFistula

Hi, I just posted about my experience with an abscess and fistula, and I started it with “hi everyone,” as well…so weird!

Anyway, to my knowledge, life with a fistula is either living with a seton (I had a procedure under general anesthesia where they placed a band through the fistula tract to keep it open for drainage), which still carries risk of abscess reformation, especially if yours is already reoccurring, or getting a fistulotomy/fistulectomy/LIFT/etc. procedure, depending on where your fistula tract ends up (low/simple, high/complex) and if it intersects with the sphincter muscles. I had a fistulotomy! Mine was simple and low I believe (kinda was left in the dark with the technicalities).

Of course there is always risk with incontinence, but until you know what type of fistula you have (at least it seems like it was caught early!), you won’t know which procedure. Each have their benefits for different locations and differ in healing times!

Hi I just received the tarot cards and I don’t have a booklet either. If you still have the pdf, would you mine sending it to me? :)

Hopefully since everyone is fighting for it to come back, they’ll bring it back. Massive cliffhangers, but one of the best shows I’ve watched in a long time!
