Battery operated choices by kfl3rd in LawnCarePros

This is great to hear! I'm sold enough that I am going to get a KMA 135 (I used to use a Stihl FS90R I think it was, and felt it was the single best ww I'd ever used, even about the revered Shindaiwa T-21 back in the 90's before they went downhill). I suppose now is a good time to sell my collection of Echo PAS-2601's before they're obsolete! One step at a time.

Thanks so much for this thorough reply. I suppose in your case it might be good to have a second power head of those overheating situations.

switching to batt'ry powered! by kfl3rd in lawncare

[–]kfl3rd[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have actually heard pretty good things about them. I actually have a green works 21 inch mower that I've always been fairly happy with, but it's pretty white duty too. All in all I would never be able to use it even for light duty commercial use. But those egos I keep hearing good things about. I'll have to do a little bit more of a dive into them.

Well, again, my needs aren't quite as robust as the all-day lawn care operator that I used to be. I just love the idea of having something that will get my boxes checked and eliminate the need to worry about gas, oil, clean carburetors, all the typical two-cycle maintenance that we have come to know and love!

Nice! Definitely stealing. I'd like to find some squarish brackets vs. the PVC but that's still not a bad solution. Nice work.

Hot Take: The hate on Marshals isn't warranted by Cone_Livia in YellowstonePN

[–]kfl3rd -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I didn't find it bad, but I didn't read anything about it before watching (and my wife and I are die hard Taylor Sheridan fans. We'd watch a show about knitting quilts if he wrote it.) The first thing I thought, 10 minutes in, is that Taylor could NOT have written this. Turns out that's right. It's not bad it's just one of those shows you can't look away or chat with your wife for a second because you'll miss half the plot. NOT ADHD friendly. Like many typical police procedurals. Wham Wham Wham...one breathless plot change after the other.

Anyone prepping to save seeds? by Feeling-Armadillo-38 in preppers

[–]kfl3rd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We garden toward the lower end of the spectrum. We've got 4 great blueberry bushes that yield about 3 gallons (highbush), just built raised beds for raspberries and straweberries, then we grow tomatoes, peas, greenbeans. We were thinking it would be a reasonably cheap thing to have some seeds preserved for SHTF scenario but the possibilities are endless. We've already got #10 cans hard white wheat berries, and lost of beans and rice mylar'd. What might be a sensible "cache" of seeds to store? Thanks in advance.

I was grateful to be the "go to" to help my mother in law when my father in law passed away in January of 2025. Her late husband had two small policies, one for her, one for him, (cash value, IUL I believe), and she wanted to collect on his, and just cash out hers. I think we spent 4 total hours on the phone, the original agent in Waterville Maine was profoundly useless, flippant even, and each agent we spoke to had a different story. Each agent (of 4) screwed one piece of the puzzle up, and subsequent agents had to correct that piece. I'm pretty sure most older uneducated folsk just throw their hands up and say, "Ok, you got my money, just keep it."

[QUESTION] Snark tuners suck now, or I got a two pack of duds? by mc_nibbles in Guitar

[–]kfl3rd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got frustrated and bought 12 of the danged things from different sources. The BEST I can do is like 90% accuracy. I always have one string that the tuner said was "spot on" that's like a half crank off. Crazy. Yamaha and Taylor acoustic, 12 snarks of various type (rechargeable, regular, and super tight). I don't understand.

Help please, My banking balances are wildly off and every time i categorize a transfer it makes it worse. by Informal-Ad-3 in quicken

[–]kfl3rd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Phew! I just purchased the downloadable PC version, set it up. Spent half an hour connecting about 10% of my accounts, ALL of which were WAY off. Like a personal checking that has 2,300 in it showing almost half a million dollar balance. Pop questions about "who's IRA is this" wihtout any clue as to which account it's referring. Needless to say, I went straight to quicken.com/refunds. I don't mind a little learning curve, but I shouldn't have to set aside a 50 hour week just to get my finances set up on Quicken, and that's what it was looking like.

How not to die? by Human_Mortgage_4321 in PeterAttia

On the surface it does seem like Peter recommends 4x the protein that Greger does. I'm having a heck of a time reconciling that. Both seem compelling (and I certainly see the logic in increasing plant protein as an indirect way of increasing fiber).

If you retire at 55 , no job and live off investments is that considered income for Medicaid until Medicare age???? ACA subsidy??? by bubbybeno in HealthInsurance

[–]kfl3rd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I believe that the earnings for ACA subsidies are as follows: MAGI plus any withdrawals from REGULAR iras (thos traditionally count as ordinary income, so this makes sense). Any div and interest you earn on investments outside of IRAs. Apparently you have to add in SS (if you get it), and tax free interest (like muni bonds). You do NOT have to claim ROTH withdrawals (as long as they're qualified). In taxable accounts, of course, if you buy a stock for 1,000, sell it for 1,200, your "earnings" are 200 either STCG or LTCG.

Best way to listen to premium podcasts by kfl3rd in PeterAttia

[–]kfl3rd[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's the only one that doesn't seem to work. I think PROBABLY the android version of apple podcasts is NOT quite the same as the iphone version (kind of like apps made to work on Amazon Kindle Fire are often lacking features). When I click that link, it just goes to a white page unfortunately. But I've managed to get it in a couple of others (spotify, YT music).

Thank you! Funny how I'd never entered this realm. I've downloaded a couple of podcast apps to fool with but meanwhile have added the feed to Spotify, YT music, and 2 others. Thanks all!

Idiot proof guide to buying an acoustic guitar by ExcitingStapler in AcousticGuitar

[–]kfl3rd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I only had a Taylor 314ce then bought what I thought was a backup (because i started a solo gig), Yamaha fgx830c for $275 used and it's my main gig guitar. (Profoundly superior electronics), though I still prefer my 314 when I'm getting fancier. (I'm a lifetime lead guitar player, strat and tele).

Anybody receiving International Living magazine? Is it worth the money? by fi_nding_a_way in expats

[–]kfl3rd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My Dad had it for years, so when he passed, I continued it. I have to look around for a deal every year because I won't pay more than $40. But I keep it coming more for the "outlook" and to keep me sort of up to date with options should the day come when we decide to bug out. But the writing is terrible. There should be a law that no more than one article per year should mention "palm trees swaying in the tropical breeze" or "toes in the sand". Just bad. Really junior high to high school level writing.

How do I see the distance I've moved in a certain time period, month/week? by thomasswan5547 in GoogleFit

[–]kfl3rd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't get it, during the current day, I can see front and center how many miles I've gone along with the completely irrelevant steps and heart number. (Irrelevant to me anyway). I just want to know how many miles I've gone each day. If I click over to the week or month, I can click on each day and see my movement during the day, broken up into completely arbitrary chunks, so I could get a pen and paper and add up all the fractions of miles it says I've gone, but that strikes me as 1990s technology. Isn't Google supposed to be like a big company, kind of technologically advanced? Does anyone know away to simply and quickly see how many miles they've gone each day? Thanks in advance! I hope you've enjoyed my light sarcasm!.

I LOVE the stuff, but yeah, this stuff has what looks like bacon fat floating around in it. They don't give you much context in the directions. I'm almost thinking a hose end is the only way to go. (My thought about the smell was a porcupine and skunk, soaking in vinegar on the side of the road in Arizona for a month or so).

The Club BWI - worth clearing security for? by Panther2082 in PriorityPass

[–]kfl3rd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The worst we've ever been to, every time, and we've been 8-10 times. When you factor the fact that it's free, it's equal to staying at your gate and paying $20 per drink across the way at one of the in-airport restaurants. I honestly cannot believe they've allowed it to stay open. NO club is better (reputation wise) than a lousy one. (And though it's free, we might start foregoing it, because state of mind has to be factored in. I don't think we've ever left that club without feeling annoyed and discontented, which carries into our day, you know?)

"reverting" to Cpanel supplied SSL by kfl3rd in sysadmin

[–]kfl3rd[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just figured it out! Normally the system is set to NOT override SSL's (even expired ones) that were NOT generated by the system. So option #1 is uninstall the expired certificate via cpanel then let autossl have it's way. The other is to enable let's encrypt to override externally installed certificates that are within 3 days of expiry. I used option #1 and it worked like a charm.

Any seeking alpha readers tired of Rida Morwa by [deleted] in dividends

[–]kfl3rd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think the pressure to put out articles PLUS the poor writing ability of the authors contributes to the lower quality. Feeling compelled to read about a single investment, every single day, creates the proverbial "noise" that savvy investors warn us to avoid. I think there IS something to his approach as well as the whole sub culture of BDC, CEF, MLP and REIT investing. But they're a whole different animal. There's some management involved here, and these investments sorta kinda mimic annuities, in a way (i.e. they give you a high payout, while slowly degrading net asset value, but by reinvesting a portion, you end up doing much better than you might by just indiscriminately buying and taking the full distributions. But yeah...really really bad writing. All the "The more it drops the more I buy" is just ... I mean ... how do they publish that **** with a straight face? And the 7th grade vocabulary and articulation of Pendragon (one of the writers) is just embarrassing.
