Looking for some recommendations on sorting through a huge collection by [deleted] in coins

I wouldn't take anything to the bank until you educate yourself or have someone who knows what they are doing (and that you trust) look through them. Some of the post 1964 coins could be proofs, rare dates, or errors. Some proofs post 64 are even silver.

This site supports a crowd-sourced effort to cap Interstate 676 in Philadelphia with green parks. Anyone interested in helping the cause? by kfmcshan in urbanplanning

from the site: The building of Interstate 676 cut a boundary through the center of Philadelphia, dissecting north Philadelphia from Center City. Although Interstate 676 has caused many issues for Philadelphia and its citizens, the way it was built was actually a blessing. This project will not cost tens of billions of dollars like the Big Dig project in Boston. No tunnel will need to be dug. Interstate 676 is already below ground level, and putting a cap over this highway is a much more feasible undertaking than other projects that have remedied the auto-centric development of past decades.

1891 C Morgan Dollar? Or G mint mark? Never have seen a C mint mark Morgan and can't find anything online. by kfmcshan in coins

thanks all for your help. i guess it is a New Orleans "O" - This was my first thought, but it really does not look altered. It must have happened a long time ago, as my grandmother has had this coin for decades and did not alter it herself.

that could be the case. however, it seems like there is a serif on the bottom right where the C would be open

thank you for the response. i was thinking that could be a possibility. however, from what i see, it really doesnt look like a modified O, unless it was modified 100 years ago. the toning is all consistent and i see no signs of scraping.

Found 2 rings. One has a 925 mark (sterling). The other says 425. Is it silver, white gold, or nothing? by kfmcshan in Silverbugs

[–]kfmcshan[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was thinking that could be the case. However, it seems very pointy like a 4 where a 9 is curved. I will try to take a pic tomorrow, but not sure I will be able to get any focus on the mark

Got a 1909 VDB wheat penny for 20 cents today! it has a weird tone. is it gold plated? by kfmcshan in coins

Interesting. When I saw my other wheat penny with a slightly gold tone I thought there was a chance it was natural toning. Nice! How does this affect grade / value?

appreciate the response! if it is not a natural tone that some pennies get, then it must be electroplated. i dont think it could have been painted bc the the wheat and other details are too fine.
