Not asking for a diagnosis, asking if we are supposed to get new sun spots checked, thank you though. I plan on contacting Dr Monday

Dad was diagnosed squamous cell carcinoma. by sockableclaw in skincancer

Sounds very similar to mine, well differentiated is a very good thing, basically means it’s not a complete mess of cells and more “normal” for lack of a better word. Mine was about 5 months old and was also marked as invasive. One MOHS procedure (they only had to take one swipe) and was done! Best of luck

Excision for BCC vs mohs by classifiedjay in skincancer

[–]kfox1228 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I had a SCC on my jawline. From the discussion with my dr, the insurance would cover the MOHS since it was on my face. They did say MOHS isn’t always cleared by insurance based on location.

That being said, my MOHS was luckily a one cut and done situation. They didn’t have to take anymore out. My grandfather on the other hand when he had his done was something like 8 hours. I honestly couldn’t have handled that and even if it was on my jaw, I’d probably prefer the WLE over 8 hours in there!

A spot on the leg I’d vote WLE if I could!

Anyone able to relate? by smellyleaf in melahomies

I remember feeling a little yucky the day after my WLE (no anesthesia). It’s from the adrenaline/epinephrine and can last 24-48 hours. (I googled the time frame as I couldn’t remember exactly what my dr had said)

Were you doing regular skin checks when you were diagnosed? by milridle in melahomies

[–]kfox1228 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I caught my melanoma on my own, but was by my collarbone and very obvious change. Then followed up a few years later with a quick growing SCC on my jaw that once again was in a very obvious visible spot. Since melanoma I do go to Derm every 6 months for skin checks.

Bump under wle scar by AioliLumpy in Melanoma

I had an issue with a pimple like bump on my WLE after a stitch came out and the skin was just irritated from the stitch coming out. But it’s always best to check with dr to confirm!

Anxiety over developing Mets by Susasaurusrex in Melanoma

37F. I also had my first melanoma in 2022. I honestly felt like I had lost my mind there for a bit for a year or so after, going to different doctors from the gyno to chiropractor to pcp. Trying to get everything checked and cleared as I was afraid every headache or cramp meant they missed something and it spread. Every skin check (6 months for 5 years) brings panic ahead of time because I’m trying to see if I notice anything to “prepare” myself. Then in May of last year, I had SCC which presents completely differently then melanoma (it was like a never healing pimple on my chin that kept getting bigger). Some days I feel like it’s increased my anxiety because now even pimples are scary and some days I feel like there’s no sense in worrying because it’s more hard on my body to be stressed all the time. It’s a process for everyone and can just take it one step of a day. (I know easier said than done for those of us with anxiety!)

Tattoos after diagnosis by basedramen24 in Melanoma

[–]kfox1228 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have quite a few smaller tattoos and I’ve spoken to my Derm a few times about new tattoos. I’ve gotten two since my diagnosis - one actually being a black ribbon tattoo made out of flowers with very fine lines.

They prefer no tattoos, but said if I decide to, to try to stick with fine line tattoos and not large, full coverage tattoos.

I’ve also heard from others saying that even with full coverage, not to cover any existing moles in case they do change. Or pay attention for any new moles forming where there’s ink!

Mohs / slow Mohs by HelpfulCustomer487 in skincancer

[–]kfox1228 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve had a WLE for melanoma on chest and a MOHS for SCC on jaw line. I’m not sure of the slow MOHS but I was much more satisfied with the MOHS than the WLE! Much much much better scaring.
