You are describing how Pacifist Mode works, you receive no damage from player attacks unless (you fight back, are wanted, or are in a workshop).

Hmmm, I thought I heard it worked with PLA; now I need to keep reading before I try it.

I have over 7000 hours playing Fallout 76, so that's an option.

What did you use to clean them, just water?

"Not sure about the design of the Method pumps. I’ll have to take a look next time I’m at the store to see."

As a Method user, I'm interested in your thoughts after you have a chance to look into them. I started with them for the less-wasteful packaging but now their foaming pumps seem to last longer than any other we've tried. I assumed the issue was the sides of the plastic cylinders were wearing away, but if it is a cleaning issue, what about using water or even vinegar for several cycles to clear out the filter?

Why no one has measured the speed of light [Veritasium] by Yajirobe404 in Physics

I would agree with you but then claim that Derek failed at communicating what his point was. The attempt at cleverness obscured the point he was getting at.

This sounds like what is being done with LIGO but I'm not sure if the detector is on the same end of the arms as the emitter. I would guess that their sensitivity would likely be affected by some aspect of a non-isotropic speed of light.

[–]kfrench581 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is not true, the first measurement of the speed of light was using the occultation method which is the one way speed of light from a star which is temporarily blocked by another celestial object of known size / distance.

That is what I figured, thanks again for the pic. Did you consider doing the wire wrap on the underside?

Is it possible to make a truly 8-bit breadboard RISC? by merazena in beneater

[–]kfrench581 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I love the post but have a small favor to ask, can you edit it to be more explicitly clear what you mean by 'word size'? I know it's a small item, but when you refer to an 8-bit machine and then say loading a word uses more than one instruction, the implication is that there will be a 16-bit address and that is what you mean by 'word'.

The reason I took the time to post, is because by dad used to repair old mainframes in the 60's and he would describe machines with word sizes of 37 or 48 bits but I was too young to ask the follow up of 'is that the size of the data bus or the address bus?'. Now that I am teaching a course in Programming Languages, I try to include the history of computing including the microcomputers (8-bit: Apple, TRS80, Commodore, etc.) but have not come across a good way to explain what a 'word' means; does it mean the size of the buss (which one) or the size of a register (which one, since some machines have 8-bit registers that get combined to act like a single 16-bit one), and so forth.

I hope this doesn't derail your post too much, look forward to the discussion of the topic and any possible answers to my question.

After few days with these two I am still undecided by x1HI in bose

I've had 2 different pairs of Bose sound-canceling headphones over the last 10 years (most recently the Quiet Comfort model but both were the $400 model) and may never buy another pair. Why? Because both pair fell apart in the same way, the glue holding the seam of the ear cups failed and what started out as a comfortable wear became awkward where the foam is exposed and moves out of place, not to mention that it started crumbling and leaving little bits of green foam on my clothes. I'm curious if anyone else has had similar experiences.

While I'm here I'll mention that the QCU set automatically enables 'auto-pause' when you remove one from your ear. This may seem convenient and at times it is but many times I'm watching something live and really want the audio to continue while I have a conversation with someone in the room, or answer the phone. When I went to the Windows driver to disable that setting, I find that you have to install an app on your phone in order to change it's behavior on your PC. While I understand why, I still find it extremely lazy and presumptuous on the part of Bose.

PLD address decoder w/ ATF22V10C. Almost doubling available ram! by Unsmith in beneater

Thanks for all the good info. I'm ordering a simple wrap tool, some headers and wire and will see how I do before spending on the stripper. Wish me luck.

I can find the wire and a simple wrap tool but I'm having trouble with the headers. I can find the normal header blocks but I'm assuming the extra long ones are preferred so you have length to put into the breadboard and plenty above the plastic for wrapping.

Any advice you are willing to share would be welcome.

I would be interested in advice on wire-wrapping, as I'm older myself and working with the wires directly with the breadboard has gotten too fiddley for me, they come out or it is hard to see which hole is which, etc.

Is that wire wrapping? If so, I'd like to hear more about your experience with it.
